should i read it if i have anxiety about dying? i know some people say that it helped them overcome it but i don’t know if it’s worth risking like an existential crisis and possibly making my anxiety worse
@@mentallyunstable1926 I used to have bad death anxiety when I was very young....like when i was 10....and now that I'm older, like 3x a year on random nights I'll still get random death panic attacks...but i know how to calm myself down now. I don't know how bad your anxiety is and where your mental health is so I can't say if it's for sure gonna help you to read the book. As someone who I feel has conquered their death anxiety for the most part, I would say I liked the book because it does teach a lesson on making the most out of the time you have and I think it's a beautiful story. A book I WOULD recommend from the bottom of my heart is "Staring at the Sun" by Dr. Irvin Yalom. He is a psychiatrist or a psychologist that deals with patients who have death anxiety and he often deals with elderly and people who have cancer who know they will be passing away soon. And he gives really good advice. His book is basically my Bible. Not to hype it up too much. 😄 maybe give it a try?
as a person who read the first three books around ages 14-16 I can confirm that "an erotic novel with bits of fantasy around rather than a fantasy with bits of erotic" its a perfect way to describe acotar and for reviews that I've seen from the nesta book the author just stop pretending it wasn't
Please make this a series!! I cracked up so much! After is such a mess. Loved the Bible part too. Revelation makes no sense without alll the prior context. 😆
I love Divya's deadass refusal of these crusty dusty toxic tropes. We need more of that in the discourse. Kink is fine between consenting adults, but it needs to be labelled and understood that way. All this biting, kidnapping and nonsense should not get normalised or presented as a kind of standard for what sex and sexuality is. One horny woman's cringe should not poison the whole demographic's expectations of their bodies and what they should want. Kids should be aware of how much of a fetish all this is. Stan Divya.
I mean, the consenting parties here are the author and reader. Book content is extremely poorly regulated in comparison to movies or other forms of media, but that doesn’t mean that people shouldn’t be able to enjoy what they enjoy because it isn’t appropriate for all audiences.
@@LexTime89 the reader doesn't know what they're consenting to though. Of course people should be allowed to enjoy what they enjoy, and if a reader discovers their fetish in fiction, good for them, but everyone else is left wondering why a big chunk of the YA market started to normalise pseudo BDSM narratives and bottom-core female protagonists, which uninitiated readers are commonly invited to recognise as what they should expect from sex. You can't go full kink like this with no self awareness or wider social understanding. That's not sex positive, it's sex exclusionary
@@Plexuz0 I honestly don’t read loads of YA, and it’s not a secret that ACOTAR was incorrectly categorized by the publisher and was not intended to be YA. What other popular YA fiction features fetishized sexual interludes? Apparently many, since it’s a “big chunk”, but I’d love some specifics.
@@LexTime89 By all means, take your pick from any Goodreads YA abusive relationship list. There's a reason Divya calls this stuff out, it's not because she isn't sex positive or prudish, it's because this is an endemic problem to the genre and needs to be called out more.
Not me crying to you crying to reading the last chapter of They Both Die at the End reliving all of my feelings when I read that book 😭 that story destroyed me
This made me realize that "After" potentially has tax fraud? It's not a taxable gift if it's gambling? Right? There's even a paper trail for lump sums in the down payment, and the car -- how did the mortgage get approved? His signature is probably all over -- wouldn't it be great if someone got their just desserts and went to jail over this? 😂
Haven’t read after so I don’t know exactly what happened but: It depends on the tax laws of the place this happened Unless he sold it he wouldn’t be taxed on it personally. If he uses it as a type of payment he would get taxed on it via goods and services tax as well as taxed (and I’m simplifying here) on the gap between the current worth of the gift compared to the worth of it when he got it (if it’s a monetary gift then that’s not really applicable). He could be sued for contract fraud as a romantic relationship can be considered a contract via law (at least where I’m from) and entering a relationship under false pretenses is fraud (or maybe a breach of contract). Also, taking money from someone for something specific then using it for something else (without the owner of the money consenting) is fraud too, no? (I’m only an accounting student who forgot what happens in her tax courses 😭) (I didn’t read after, I’m trying to keep my sanity)
