Thank you Cyndi 🫶💜 my nephew was put into foster care 8 years ago. I was a state away, and not in a position to take him. His foster mom had him for 18 months and I asked to speak to her. He had grown up with their family for 18 months, had a big sister, and it was where he was meant to be. They ended up adopting him and now I live 30 mins from them and get to watch him grow up. My brother also gets to see him and talk to him all the time. People like you are so vital and so amazing.

My parents have been fostering in MA for the last 18 or 19 years and its so interesting to hear about how placement works for you and comparing it to what I remember growing up. When they started, my parents also chose to only take in kids younger than my sister, so for the most part we were the big sisters.
I also just want to say that my parents opening their home was one of the best things that has ever happened to me and I would not be the woman I am today without it. I hope that when your kids are older they also get to thank you for opening your home and giving them that experience. Thank you for sharing your journey with the world ❤

I feel this so deeply! I am a bonus momma who got my little girl from CPS via bio mom. Although I am married to bio dad this little girl is special needs and requires 24 hour care. When she came to us 6 years ago my bio baby was 18 and therefore I was starting all over being a momma. The thing I struggled with the most was that I was an addict for 8 years of my life and spent sometime in prison and finally got my life in order, but was still trying to rebuild my life with my children. I was still picking up the pieces. So not only was I picking up my own pieces I was now picking up the pieces of her mother’s addiction. She experienced a lot of trauma but is unable to communicate it. So it’s been not only a challenge to learn how to care for a special needs child, but also still trying to be a hero still to my own grown children and now grandchildren life but still being the best bonus momma to this sweet little girl who needs me all day everyday. I can not wait to hear more from y’all. I have followed both of you for such a long time I feel like I am sitting in the room with other mommas who get it! Also knowing we all live so close to each other it seems like we are also neighbors. Good job mommas not just on the podcast but also in real life.

It’s interesting at the beginning of this video you talk about getting placed in the car and where are the children in the moment. I was in the foster care system mind you I went in at six grade and I remember you had to go to the office and see their specific doctor and be checked for any abuse. I was so embarrassed and shy at my body, I wouldn’t Andreas and so they assumed that I was being harmed by my mother, which I obviously wasn’t. The reason I was taken was for different reasons and I had no family where I lived to take care of me. I remember sitting there until like 8 o’clock at night, and I hadn’t had dinner. I didn’t even have time to pack my stuff so I literally left with a small little bag of clothes and that was it. I came home. Excited to share something with my mom and then was basically told to leave with this person and not come back to my home. I was able to go back home six months later. Mind you I don’t think I should have, but I did as at that point I was old enough to go where I wanted I think you had to be 12 or 13 to make the choice to stay home or not.

You need a village to help. My family is almost 2 hrs alway. But my husbands family and our friends are minutes away and help us all the time.
