Oh my God, what a rush of nostalgia. I grew up amongst non-handy people, but I had an engineer grandfather who spent count this hours in the shop with me. He gifted me this exact tool kit as a tiny child, I had never remembered it until seeing that familiar baby blue and Birch. Thank you so much for this wonderful memory
I had that exact toolkit as a kid. I think I received it as a Christmas gift in the early 70’s. The container you asked about did contain the bits for the brace.
That $20 ampco was the steal of the day for sure!!! And that pick up wrench WOW!!!! Awesome man!! If you sand on that ampco wear a respirator! A real one! Permissible exposure limits are very low in acute settings. Awesome video! Loved it all really haha.
That little spot in the toolbox, I'm trying to remember 40 years back, I want to say that there was a piece of chalk in that little flap. I think it had like a holder sort of like soapstone? I distinctly remember if you barely touched the lid it wanted to fall out. I was very picky about every tool going back correctly and I distinctly remember how frustrating that little chalk was. Pretty sure it was almost the exact same shade of blue chalk as all the painted tools
I loved the Delta lantern!! I hope to see you do something with it as I have one I got from my Grandfather who used it to go fishing when they went to Florida.
Wow John that was a huge episode. Please keep filming the shows you go to as I’m sure I’m not the only one that enjoys seeing the ‘real’ America. I think we all have a couple of particular tools that we tend to collect. I focus on Aussie made tools with Australian made g clamps a specialty but I seem to find it hard to walk past a bench grinder, I have eight or nine of those, bolt cutters seem to grab my attention - the smaller the better and I have realised I have a thing for pipe tools like seven pipe wrenches all different sizes, eight pipe cutters, even an Australian made electric pipe threading machine and just yesterday I received another pipe vice, although this one is quite rare so I’ll be doing a video on that one. Keep up the great work. I just don’t know how you put out three videos a week but Lea and I love them. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺

That Great Neck screwdriver is really unique and if I saw one I’d buy it with no reservations. The differences in handle shapes for tools, especially screwdrivers is interesting with the materials, surfaces, and grips that change with the designers imagination. Something about those translucent “Acetate” handles that are addictive. Though that Delta Lantern is really cool too!

The Delta lamp was pretty neat. Reminds me of my dad's late 50s, early 60s lantern with the light and flasher. Always was fascinated by that red flasher when I was a count my age on one hand kiddo.

There was some great stuff and some serious collectors. A pair of Goosewing axes went for $2400. But there was also some real bargains. It was a lot of fun. Sorry I missed you.
I saw a lot of woodworking tools, the ones I like. I am sure I would have spent at least a thousand dollars. Good thing we didn't have those sales where I live. Heck, I like them all.

There were a lot of neat things there! The pick up wrench is very cool, but I think my favorite was the swing spout "stein"! It is probably a good thing those aren't still made or else college students would be using them to down 32oz of beer in seconds! 😬
Very nice tool haul. The NJ show was loaded with great tools. Would have been fascinating, but I live across the continent. I like the lantern and Fulton flashlight with the flexneck. I have evolved into a lantern fan, in part by watching SC flashlight and lantern videos. I will be interested to see how you tackle the bubbled finish on the lantern reflector. I have seen a few of the polished Swingspout oil cans at vintage car swapmeets, but they are definitely rare. Mostly they are galvanized, or plain steel. I have one painted in a bronze tone, and another that is copper plated. The pick up wrench is a treasure. For people with vintage cars where spark plugs are easy to get to, it is still practical. What fun.
Ah yes...the SwingSpout oil dispenser...we had several at the Chevron station where I worked while in high school (1964-1968). Mostly we used them when we did oil changes, as it was way easier than stabbing several cans with the piercing spout. We even had (I believe) a 4 quart model. They all had a more galvanized looking finish. Also, we had customers with old cars (mostly 50's Fords as I recall LOL) than used almost as much oil as gas, so they bough the world famous Zerolene, which was used oil that had been re-refined and had new additives put in it, and sold for a whopping 35 cents a quart, only available in bulk so always dispensed with a SwingSpout. Chevron brand oil was 79 cents a quart, Pennzoil was $1.29. Regular gas was 19.9, Ethyl (Supreme) was 29.9, Custom Supreme (104 octane!) was 39.9. Sob.
You should watch this old Tony he did a collab with a fella who's name escapes me at the moment where one made the handle the other made the dustbin it's a simple tool but seeing the process really is intriguing and gives you an appreciation of those who do metal work

John, don't hold me to this, but I recollect reading years ago that beryllium/copper particles are very unhealthy if inhaled. BE SURE TO research this before grinding, sanding or wire-wheeling that wrench.

Ok, enough is enough! We need to arrange a budget, a create and shipping costs along with a “wanted list”. So envious of what I’m seeing at these sales.
I don’t have a favorite out of your latest haul. My best tool deals have been from people just giving me old tools that either belonged to them, their fathers, or in one case, her late husband. Tools ranging from an asb*st*s shingle cutter to wrenches. Worst deal was helping a friend clean out the basement after his father past away. My nephew was helping me so I let him take what he wanted. I knew my friend needed money so I paid him ‘end of the day tag sale prices’ for the better things. I sold some of the stuff up at the antique machinery show and still have a bunch of stuff that I can either use or sell so I sort of broke even. However at some point he sold the house and disappeared owing me and another mutual friend quite a bit of money for work that we did to help him get ready to sell the house.
John, fantastic findings , i would have personally stayed away from the perfect handle just because making those handles are so time consuming , the rest was fantastic love the swing spout oil can

I liked the Handy Andy set. I have been looking at those on EBay lately. had a smaller set when I was a kid, but can’t remember exactly what was in it. Definitely had the wooden box, a square, hammer, screwdrivers and a saw. It was made in Poland and had the blue paint. Great job on that wrench!
I enjoyed looking at the ratcheting spark plug wrench... but my favorite purchase you made was the fiber optic black flashlight for inspection. I’d love to find one similar to that for $10. Great video!! Thanks again.
Wiha makes wonderful miniature screwdrivers - they are well made with a price to match (quality costs). Also can get most of the miniature screwdrivers that are EDS (Electro-Static Discharge) safe. Another thing to be on the look-out for is used (but good shape) Work-Mates. I bought one from our local Restore for 30 dollars - it needed a new board - had a few paint marks - but otherwise was in great shape for $30. One 2 x 6 and a couple of screws and nuts later - good as new.
The longer the video, the better IMHO. The footage from C.R.A.F.T.S. and Jacktown and the others is what this community is all about. Those who don't find them interesting must have been dropped on their heads as babies. What a shame to live that kind of life. I liked the flashlight and the lantern. Lighting devices seems to be my current interest. Everything else though was great, especially the Handy Andy tool kit. Thanks for everything. Jim

@@ScoutCrafter That is good knife. A Chinese copy will cost you $25 albeit in 440 SS. More compact than a fixed blade and I think it probably to keep people from panicking about seeing a sheath knife. It was a problem in areas a long time ago, just nothing compared to today. I have the import model which a good knife, but I have one from Ka-bar. Headed out where things could go bad I would take the Ka-bar.
You are walking around looking at the tools on the tables and I see three one-pound carpet/linoleum tack hammers my first one cost me 30.00 dollars late 70s money now they cost 110.00. When you can find them you can buy them for as low as 5.00 dollars. I also see a Dexter mill knife handle with a Dexter linoleum knife blade in it you don't see them very often my favorite linoleum knife. If that wasn't enough I see an Armstrong notched blade back cutting knife. I wish I could have been there. Great show lots of nice tools.
I don't mind the longer videos! Besides the Handy Andy, I really like knives and like Old Timer knives. Back in the day they were great knives! Someone should make a new kit, the Handy Crafter with red accented tools eh! You guys get all the great shows. Yard sale-ing over hear is few and far between.
Great tool haul!!! I'm jealous. I used to travel medium distances (1-1 1/2 hours away) for flea market type events but haven't in a long time because I just have so much of everything. I just can't keep collecting; I'm just about out of space to store it all. But I love that kind of stuff so I still weaken and buy it when I come across it.
That kind of spark plug wrench was great to use when the plugs were on top of the engine. They fell out of favor when the V shaped engines got so popular. Neat tool!!
Scout, you got me curious so I just read-up a little on beryllium. The article named a lot of metals that non-sparking tools are made from. It said beryllium has the disadvantage of kicking up toxic dust if you're grinding or sanding it. So please be careful when working on that stuff. We want to keep you around.

The Handy Andy tool kit is the bees knees‼️ I haven't seen a swing oil can since I was a teenager.(1967) [I'm 67, too.] Never seen that kind of lantern before. Or that really swell socket wrench. I hope you get that crack welded. If you take a box of doughnuts or brownies to these shows. When yer talking to the dealer. Ask if they want one. The friendlier you are, the better deal ya can get. Beryllium is actually one of the lightest elements in the universe. That wrench is made of beryllium copper (less than 5% beryllium probably), which is a very strong and tough alloy. A really nice find for sure. Anyway, thanks for your videos and take care.
We had those oil spout cans at the coal powerhouse I worked at in Trenton NJ. They were blue with a flexible/accordion spout. Held a gallon. Also we had the brass wrenches too. Used on the dock when we attached the long oil boom on an oil barge to our oil line on the dock. The brass tools wouldn’t spark.
I dabble in pocket knives and most modern ones use Torx head screws. Locktite can be a real problem and Wiha torx bits last much longer than any other brand I have tried.
The swing spout, isn't there like an industrial version? I have an underground diesel tank at my 100-year-old house and there is a swing spout that hangs just under the joists in my garage. There is a valve, but it is almost always open. There is a brass neck that tapers and can swing down. The act of swinging it down releases the fluid once it locks in the down position. When locked, it can still swivel in all directions. For code enforcement purposes, this comment is hypothetical
My dad had one of those swingspouts but it had a galvanized finish. I helped change oil in the vehicles and used it regularly but still managed to spill oil on stuff.
I like everything you've got, hard to pick a favorite. If I could have one, I'd probably choose the perfect handle. Over here stuff like that or even a car boot type thing are not allowed yet. And if they will be again, I doubt if anything will be organized this year on such short notice. So I'm happy you're doing the filming there, almost like I'm able to get back out again :) Thank you!

The knife scales, I have no idea what the material is, but I'm pretty sure that was referred to as tortoise shell. Was very popular pattern for eyeglasses, a decor, etc
That OLDTIME I would have spent $10 on that all day every day. It is a 2 blade hunter and the scale are Delran. That was one of my first knives I vbought myself the back sprig broke on it.
Just saw a larger Swing Spout at a garage sale last weekend. It was in a galvanized finish but man it was in terrible condition. Several rust holes and dented. Would like to find another someday but I just couldn't see getting it as it was basically just a collection of parts rusted together. The one you found looks great.
11:50 those are Tailor Shears. They have the ledge so you just run them standing up on the table. Since the blade did all the cutting, you never need to clip with the scissors. I would see them in the Cutting rooms in the Fashion District, when I tagged along with my dad into Manhattan as a kid. They always took them to a grinding wheels to sharpen, and it would take so much metal off the blade. I would find these shears with no height on the blades.
The more ornate and complicated the handles the more they cost! LOL Kent I know years back these were really popular in shops all over! I was always fascinated by the handles..
I am pretty sure the original Old-Timer 250T models were a saw cut bone handle. But they did move to a delrin handle material later on that looked almost the same, with the same colouration.

I also had a job in a gas station after school. We had the same oil can except it had a flex neck. (Like an elephant trunk) My favorite tool was the spark plug wrench!
where i live there is a tool collecting and a Restoration club its called "just me" lol would love to go to a place like that the advantage i have is that nobody cares about tools here and i can get them almost free if they sell em instead of trowing away off coarse
Most (not all ) Ampco tools are an aluminum/bronze alloy. Berylco are beryllium/copper. I do have a few older Ampco that have a beryllium alloy.

Ok, enough is enough! We need to arrange a budget, a create and shipping costs along with a “wanted list”. So envious of what I’m seeing at these sales.
I don’t have a favorite out of your latest haul.
My best tool deals have been from people just giving me old tools that either belonged to them, their fathers, or in one case, her late husband. Tools ranging from an asb*st*s shingle cutter to wrenches. Worst deal was helping a friend clean out the basement after his father past away. My nephew was helping me so I let him take what he wanted. I knew my friend needed money so I paid him ‘end of the day tag sale prices’ for the better things. I sold some of the stuff up at the antique machinery show and still have a bunch of stuff that I can either use or sell so I sort of broke even. However at some point he sold the house and disappeared owing me and another mutual friend quite a bit of money for work that we did to help him get ready to sell the house.
John, fantastic findings , i would have personally stayed away from the perfect handle just because making those handles are so time consuming , the rest was fantastic love the swing spout oil can
Jorge- This one doesn't have very pronounced inside bevels so it might be easier! =D

LOL- Joe- You would be shocked at how many of the vendors don’t do anything on the computer like eBay or RUclips. I guess that’s why their prices are so reasonable. 😃👍
I liked the Handy Andy set. I have been looking at those on EBay lately. had a smaller set when I was a kid, but can’t remember exactly what was in it. Definitely had the wooden box, a square, hammer, screwdrivers and a saw. It was made in Poland and had the blue paint. Great job on that wrench!
I enjoyed looking at the ratcheting spark plug wrench... but my favorite purchase you made was the fiber optic black flashlight for inspection. I’d love to find one similar to that for $10. Great video!! Thanks again.

Wiha makes wonderful miniature screwdrivers - they are well made with a price to match (quality costs). Also can get most of the miniature screwdrivers that are EDS (Electro-Static Discharge) safe.
Another thing to be on the look-out for is used (but good shape) Work-Mates. I bought one from our local Restore for 30 dollars - it needed a new board - had a few paint marks - but otherwise was in great shape for $30. One 2 x 6 and a couple of screws and nuts later - good as new.
The longer the video, the better IMHO. The footage from C.R.A.F.T.S. and Jacktown and the others is what this community is all about. Those who don't find them interesting must have been dropped on their heads as babies. What a shame to live that kind of life. I liked the flashlight and the lantern. Lighting devices seems to be my current interest. Everything else though was great, especially the Handy Andy tool kit. Thanks for everything. Jim

The flasher you are describing is called a bi-metallic strip. The old blinking Christmas lights worked the same way.
Yes! Sort of a Ni-Chrome wire... I have a friend who was manager at Eagle Electric and made all sorts of cool things like that!
That tool kit is something I drooled over as a kid. The knife is a folding hunter with saw cut delrin scales.

@@ScoutCrafter That is good knife. A Chinese copy will cost you $25 albeit in 440 SS. More compact than a fixed blade and I think it probably to keep people from panicking about seeing a sheath knife. It was a problem in areas a long time ago, just nothing compared to today. I have the import model which a good knife, but I have one from Ka-bar. Headed out where things could go bad I would take the Ka-bar.
What a neat toy! It seems that while the Poles were teaching their kids useful skills, we were making assholes out of ours.

You are walking around looking at the tools on the tables and I see three one-pound carpet/linoleum tack hammers my first one cost me 30.00 dollars late 70s money now they cost 110.00. When you can find them you can buy them for as low as 5.00 dollars. I also see a Dexter mill knife handle with a Dexter linoleum knife blade in it you don't see them very often my favorite linoleum knife. If that wasn't enough I see an Armstrong notched blade back cutting knife. I wish I could have been there. Great show lots of nice tools.

I don't mind the longer videos! Besides the Handy Andy, I really like knives and like Old Timer knives. Back in the day they were great knives! Someone should make a new kit, the Handy Crafter with red accented tools eh! You guys get all the great shows. Yard sale-ing over hear is few and far between.
Great tool haul!!! I'm jealous. I used to travel medium distances (1-1 1/2 hours away) for flea market type events but haven't in a long time because I just have so much of everything. I just can't keep collecting; I'm just about out of space to store it all. But I love that kind of stuff so I still weaken and buy it when I come across it.
That kind of spark plug wrench was great to use when the plugs were on top of the engine. They fell out of favor when the V shaped engines got so popular. Neat tool!!

Scout, you got me curious so I just read-up a little on beryllium. The article named a lot of metals that non-sparking tools are made from. It said beryllium has the disadvantage of kicking up toxic dust if you're grinding or sanding it. So please be careful when working on that stuff. We want to keep you around.

I haven't seen a swing oil can since I was a teenager.(1967) [I'm 67, too.] Never seen that kind of lantern before. Or that really swell socket wrench. I hope you get that crack welded.

Beryllium is actually one of the lightest elements in the universe. That wrench is made of beryllium copper (less than 5% beryllium probably), which is a very strong and tough alloy. A really nice find for sure. Anyway, thanks for your videos and take care.
Yes! The Beryllium copper mix is only 1.9% Be! Copper makes up a lot of it! =D
We had those oil spout cans at the coal powerhouse I worked at in Trenton NJ. They were blue with a flexible/accordion spout. Held a gallon. Also we had the brass wrenches too. Used on the dock when we attached the long oil boom on an oil barge to our oil line on the dock. The brass tools wouldn’t spark.
Some beauties there buddy. I think my favourite was the torch with the fibre optic tip.

I dabble in pocket knives and most modern ones use Torx head screws. Locktite can be a real problem and Wiha torx bits last much longer than any other brand I have tried.
The swing spout, isn't there like an industrial version? I have an underground diesel tank at my 100-year-old house and there is a swing spout that hangs just under the joists in my garage. There is a valve, but it is almost always open. There is a brass neck that tapers and can swing down. The act of swinging it down releases the fluid once it locks in the down position. When locked, it can still swivel in all directions. For code enforcement purposes, this comment is hypothetical
My dad had one of those swingspouts but it had a galvanized finish. I helped change oil in the vehicles and used it regularly but still managed to spill oil on stuff.
I like everything you've got, hard to pick a favorite. If I could have one, I'd probably choose the perfect handle. Over here stuff like that or even a car boot type thing are not allowed yet. And if they will be again, I doubt if anything will be organized this year on such short notice. So I'm happy you're doing the filming there, almost like I'm able to get back out again :) Thank you!

You picked up some really cool stuff for sure. Great buy on that Old Timer knife, and that Pick Up wrench is so unique. I had never seen one before. Hard to pick a favorite as everything from the lanterns to the screwdrivers piqued my interest.

The knife scales, I have no idea what the material is, but I'm pretty sure that was referred to as tortoise shell. Was very popular pattern for eyeglasses, a decor, etc

That OLDTIME I would have spent $10 on that all day every day. It is a 2 blade hunter and the scale are Delran. That was one of my first knives I vbought myself the back sprig broke on it.
Just saw a larger Swing Spout at a garage sale last weekend. It was in a galvanized finish but man it was in terrible condition. Several rust holes and dented. Would like to find another someday but I just couldn't see getting it as it was basically just a collection of parts rusted together. The one you found looks great.
11:50 those are Tailor Shears. They have the ledge so you just run them standing up on the table. Since the blade did all the cutting, you never need to clip with the scissors. I would see them in the Cutting rooms in the Fashion District, when I tagged along with my dad into Manhattan as a kid. They always took them to a grinding wheels to sharpen, and it would take so much metal off the blade. I would find these shears with no height on the blades.
The more ornate and complicated the handles the more they cost! LOL Kent I know years back these were really popular in shops all over! I was always fascinated by the handles..
I am pretty sure the original Old-Timer 250T models were a saw cut bone handle. But they did move to a delrin handle material later on that looked almost the same, with the same colouration.
I believe the Scale material on the Old Timer is called Delrin. I have a bunch of them as well. Good steel.

where i live there is a tool collecting and a Restoration club its called "just me" lol would love to go to a place like that the advantage i have is that nobody cares about tools here and i can get them almost free if they sell em instead of trowing away off coarse
