  • In this video I show you how to improve the Celestron CGX mounts motor units to eliminate the design issues and get rid of the sawtooth guiding.

    Shims:
    1 pc 5x8x0.5
    1 pc. M3
    Used bearings (per unit)
    Worm:
    2 pc SS2 608 ZZ CN V2 P6 GS1 8x22x7 mm
    Gearbox:
    1 pc. MF 52 W2 open 2x5x2 mm
    1 pc. MF 85 W2 open 5x8x2 mm
    1 pc. MR 85 ZZ / 2Z CN V2 P6 GS1 5x8x2.5 mm
    Grease:
    For the worm drives:
    Adhesive, graphite based. (MoS² is also ok)
    Gearbox: Any lithium based, light adhesive grease

    Great information, as I plan to tune my GCX before permanently installing it on an pier.
    Can you provide specifications on the bearings that you used inside the motor?
    I have already purchased better bearings for supporting the worm gears on both axes.

    Excellent video! Can you explain why the M3 washer is needed under the bracket for the"3rd motor mount screw?" I've basically just completed this optimization and would love to get it perfect, before I reinstall my drive assemblies on my CGX-L. Also what thickness should the M3 be?

      By tensioning the belt, the holder bends slightly to the left and the belt runs slightly offset. this is compensated for by using the M3 washer (0.5mm thick).

    You mentioned that a customer was waiting for the mount you were working on. Does this mean you provide the service? If so how much for the full service on a CGX? And to where would the mount need to be shipped to? Thanks!

      Yes, I am doing service on astronomical equipment. I am located in Germany.

      @@deepskytrekkin9600 600.- €, but the additional costs for transportation from the USA and the effort for customs will make it unprofitable.

      @@deepskytrekkin9600 Unfortunately not. Since Deep Space Products discontinued its Hypertune service, I am not aware of any other provider. Sorry.
