This was a really cool video! I've never been to an actual comic con but when I do get to go to one. I'll definitely stick to all the stuff you guys talked about! :D

Suggestion, bring a recorded inventory of your comic book and graphic novel collection.

This was great, thanks for the tips. Keystone was my first con ever (I saw Sal and Tiffany and got a pic with them), and I had no idea what to do or how to act, so now I have a good base.

Went to Pheonix Comic-Con and the crowd's body odor ended up killing any interest in going again.

To be fair, you basically went to a comic con on the surface of the sun.

My first con was something I really regret. Don't get me wrong, it was great. I even got an autograph from Steve Blum. Problem was I decided to leave because the other voice actor was taking a break and I thought "I don't know this guy anyway. I'll look up his work when I get home." When I did, I realized that I missed an opportunity to get a signature from a talent that was a large part of my childhood, Phil Lamar.

I don't know if you were trying to fix the volume between you two (Joel's always louder) but whatever you did, it sounded fine to me.

Tip from an artist if you are meeting an artist you admire and you want to make a impression ( if it’s with your portfolio or just for networking) talk to them artists to artist try avoid acting like a massive fan (it’s fine to be one) but just remember the only difference between them and you is they have (problem) just been drawing longer.

TIP for how to get in HUGE signings if you don’t get a wristband/ticket for that signing: by doing this I met Chadwick Boseman(MCU Black Panther) during his signing and Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini and Loren Lester at the Bats TAS signing during SDCC 16.
Talk to the people who run or assist with running the signing. For Chadwick, The marvel booth people said there’s a chance that if I came early enough and stayed by the front of the stage that they usually pick fans from the crowd to get into the signing..POSSIBLE down side: you have to wait a long time..and you might have to hover depending on the area (fire hazard) I came 2 hours early and stood by the front of the stage until his signing started..the people (moderators, assistants) saw my face enough so that helped. ALSO, be NICE! I volunteer at SDCC so usually a lot volunteers are helping with these signings..be nice, they know as much as what they have been told literally sometimes 2 mins prior to you talking to them.
For relatively smaller signings (Bat TAS) again talk to the ppl who help run it. This one was more about hovering because of Fire hazard. It was done at a smaller booth unlike the Chadwick marvel signing where they had their own stage and floor space. Be nice! Can’t stress that enough.
And always be nice to whomever your meeting!! Try to ask them how they are..don’t treat them like robots only there for your amusement.

Fun to listen to. A few don’t do things. I’m first in line to meet Starlin and some newbie cuts to my left and starts gabbing about some awkward thing. I’m only there to get one 9.8 book signed and say hello. Three minutes tops. Please get in line and wait your turn. Also I saw people with books for Jim that he never drew or wrote. So embarrassing to hear him say “I’m not Dave Cockrum”.

My older cousin took me to my first con. He took me to a small one before we hit something bigger. The smaller one was nice and I got a couple comics. The bigger one was motor city comic con in Michigan and it was awesome. I bought a piece of art and got it signed by the voice of Vegeta, Christopher Sabat. I also bought a trade and some issues I needed. We stayed for about six hours. Hopefully I can go again next year.

The sound is so much better than in previous videos! Sal’s volume might still be a little lower, but not to the point where it’s a problem.

My tip for con stuff is don't be afraid to spend money on food etc. Usually London (UK that is, which is where I go) is bloody expensive in terms of food but you shouldn't starve yourself. Oh and also bring money in general because it's basically a car boot sale for comics.

I didn't think I was that hungry coming home from a Con. That night, I ate a whole pizza. Didn't help I ate 3 kinds of mouth freshener a that same day. As Mopee taught me, they're apparently a laxative. All worth it, though. It's _always_ worth it.

Do not bring a one strap backpack. Your shoulder will kill you. Be selective in the amount of comics you bring and when you have them signed. Don't bring an omnibus or any big coffee table book. If you do, keep it in your car and make it the last thing you get signed for the day.

  • @kaiwilliams141

Know where big creators' tables are. If you want to meet somone like Tom King, Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, etc know where they are so you can show up early.

Can I ask what should I make my realistic expectations be to meeting all the creators I want to meet? I’m bring 30 something books to try to meet at least 15 creators. The likes of which Tom king, Sara Pichelli, Donny cates, Humberto Ramos, jock, David finch, and nick Spencer. Should I really just be set on 2 or 3 of them? I’m only going to nycc for one day Friday any advice would be extremely helpful

    • @comicpop
      @comicpop  6 лет назад +1

Nah you can fit all of those if you make that your plan! Just start early, and I would start with the lesser known creators first. Scope out everyone's tables, find out if any of them are doing a signing during a window of time and then plan around those.

    • @dangriffin5913

At last year’s Baltimore, King and Finch had signing schedules, which appeared to be set by their representation (side note: kinda cool creators have/need representation these days). Definitely swing by all the creators to see if there are set times. Sometimes, unless there are scheduling or travel demands, creators will stay after their scheduled end time to sign - not all and not always, but I did see Snyder and Capullo shut down Baltimore about six years ago. Also, have your books ready to go when you get to the creator - fumbling with bags and boards in front of a line of people waiting for you could make some folks angry. Plus, it’s a courtesy to the creator. If a creator has a collection jar for HERO or some other charity, throw in a buck or two - shows you care for the industry. Finally, just have fun - chat up the people in line. Chances are you’ll be waiting for a good chunk of time - why not have some good geek convos while you do so?
