Thank you for posting this Vic! This is my fav MN record although they all have a great feel on them! I love seeing the pix of the band live and in the studio. It brings back SO many memories! Thank you for taking the time to assemble and post these for all to see! Perhaps a Wiki page sometime in the future? I remember loaning you my acoustic to record the bellows shakes on these records. And on MN2 you played the Cordovox through the 825 Leslie. You can tell it was the 825 because of the time it takes for the rotor to speed up - it's virtually instant on the 147. I love the gliss (with the long sustain effect @ 28:16) on the bridge of "Fly My Lonely Song". Always wondered how you did that when I was a kid... It made more sense after I began playing around with the Duo and the Leslies. I have a pic of MN playing outdoors in Syracuse where you used both Leslies in tandem. I love the sound of the Duovox on MN3. It was a fresh palette of tones to play with. You didn't use any Leslie on that record though... but you shredded it with the 16' bass tab on a couple of tunes! Nice! The pic of the engineer (who was that guy anyway?) in the control room and the shot from the recording space looking at the CR window bring me back to 1975 when I was 10 years old and walked into that CR and realized right there and then that I wanted to mix music for the rest of my life. It's also cool seeing how young you all were back in the day. Seeing my dad as a young man again is very inspiring. I love seeing the gear you guys used back in the 70's. The SM-57 mics with the wind screens on them. The Heil Sound p.a. with the bi-radial horns and oh! the Traynor "columns"! Those were the "line arrays" of the day! And of course, the Duovox! There are a few pix of the Philharmonic during the MN1 days but very few of the Cordovox. Seems like whoever was shooting the stills was doing so during the MN3 era. Again, thank you for posting these! I know that a lot of people miss hearing these records.
***** Hey Mike, I just found this message and replying. You remember more about Melody Night and the equipment than I do. Remember we had Frank Zicari's help. Thanks for all your memories of us.
Victor Beletzky Yeah... Amazing how impressionable young kids are. Gear and music was what my life pretty much revolved around in those days. You were a hero figure in my life. Thank you for the times of interaction that we had back then. I know that it may not have meant anything much to you, but you were sowing seeds into my life that have produced a harvest of music and audio that I still use every day! You may not remember, but one day you stopped by the house on Julianne Dr after work (seems like you were working near Pixley Rd) and you replaced the TS jack on my Philharmonic with a TRS jack. That was a huge revelation to me in signal flow! Yes, you probably never realized it but I thought that the motorcycle riding, electronic tech, accordion playing dude in Tato's band was pretty cool and I wanted to be like him one day. You never know who's watching, lol! Thanks for posting the music and pics!
