Thanks for sharing this. I'm an individual but I wanted to know more about how you keep the costs down and if you will be around for years later. But, I'm impressed, and I'm going to register and starting backing-up my files to your cloud storage. Very good marketing, and I like your approach. So, I want to support your business model and help you grow. And, I'll share your name at many of the companies that I consult for. Thanks for having that entrepreneurial American Spirit ...
+Christian Taylor No, when we needed to replace "backup" pods, we try to reuse chassis as much as possible, but eventually we'll be replacing them with 5.0's!
+0zfer you are thinking about upfront cost but the place where amd is really expensiv is in opperation so yes amd would be cheaper to use upfront but more expensiv when you are running them for 3-5 years and need to pay the power bill for a server witch is on 24/7
+anders ballegaard even if they went with a i5 instead of a xeon it would save money. The point is xeon is more expensive off the bat cuz its server grade.
+0zfer they could save money by using an i5 but that is but a xeon and a i5 uses about the same amount of power but a amd 8 core uses around 30w more and that is not worth it over a 3-5 year period
i did the calculations intel would over a 5 year period cost 1079.1usd and amd would cost 1306.2 so a difrence of 227.1 usd an 8 core amd(fx 8350) cost 169.99usd an a 4 core xeon cost 255usd so a price difrence of 85usd so they would save 142usd by useing a xeon and that is without acounting cooling so they would save more than that
Sysadmins like myself look at this and think: "Ooooo, hardware porn!" Great design and would love to have Santa deliver one, some day!
Love this. I would love if you guys made a prosumer version so I could run a standalone version in my house!
Nice design overview! It's great to see the design improvements and the reasoning behind them! Keep up the great work!
Would have been nice to see how or what changes to the backplanes you made, and power deliver to the back planes.
Looks good, it's been nice to see the changes you've been making over time.
Do you guys sell old enclosures when you upgrade? This is perfect for what I'm looking for?

i just set my boss up with your services.
+Deyon Singh Nice!
This is so cool
Noticed the rails are not in the usual place but offset. Any particular reason for that?
what sata cards are they using ?
Will "Personal Storage" also be using this new design, or will personal stay on 4.0 and 5.0 is exclusive to B2?

+Backblaze Great, thanks!
Nice work guys!
Are these for sale?
finally a really nice power supply design
Superb work!!
Please release 6.0!

Great, now go with a amd 8 core instead of xeon quad and watch the savings....

+anders ballegaard Im not sure the exact calculations but I think you missed my point.
