Thanks Drew , that bring back a lot of memories. The late 80s and early 90s were a great time for shortwave. I had a Heathkit Mohegan and a Realistic DX440 back in the day . Thanks Drew .
Do you ever miss working at RBI, or are you fine not working in radio anymore? Funnily enough, old shortwave broadcasts got me back into shortwave. If only I could have gotten cards/stuff from way back then too. Grüße aus den USA!
RIP DDR, wonderful country that was betrayed by the traitor in Moscow. I was filmed as a schoolboy by the GDR London embassy in 86. The worlds a much dangerous place since the end of the eastern block.
Radio Berlin International June 2, 1989 East Germany 9730 kHz. Received from Philadelphia.
Long live the memory of the GDR!
I really like the renditions of Auferstanden Aus Ruinen at the start...
It reminds me of the simple intro-sound of the sandmännchen.
Oh, I thought it sounded like "while sheperds watch their flocks by night "

You're welcome! This was received on my DX-440. I was working at Radio Shack at the time.
Those years gotta be during the cold war
Genial! Clear and interference-free signal from several thousands miles! Those were the days!
Excellent. I did a lot of DX-ing in the 70's and early 80's.
I happen to have been the producer of this show. 😀
What was it like producing for RBI?
@@atrainradio929 Was alright tbh. Had a number of native English speakers as colleagues who were great.

Thanks for posting!
Notice the occasional jamming signal sneaking in. I heard it around 3:50 - 4 minutes in, a definite intentional signal.
The backwards music station, particularly it seems
0:01 i like this sound, can someone give me the name of It?
It's the tune of "Auferstanden aus Ruinen", the national anthem of the German Democratic Republic, which RBI used for their jingle.
Have QSL's from them.
That's awesome! I wish I was around for the golden era of shortwave, you're very lucky that you still have those QSL cards.
@@crazypilot7577 a lot of people sell them online for like 4$, they're pretty common
What happened to radio Berlin
it was dissolved with the German Reunification in 2nd of October
@@ApollonTheGreek You mean October 3, 1990, right?
@@dariowiter3078 Last transmission was October 2
@@ApollonTheGreek This radio station sadly stopped emitting a day before it's home country disappearead or died

Maybe for Stassi or GSG9 wannabees. Crumpets still use radio-free Cyprus as a carrier for...of all things...the Lincolnshire Poacher. Really?🇬🇧📻
