If it's a slow blink I think it will reset just by unplugging and plugging back in. The heat sensor problem is a really big messy deal because it involves removing the amp section and dis-assembling it much further, and hard wiring the sensors (there are two, if I remember correctly). Really a job for a technician with experience on these.
Hi Mark : My Marantz SR8002 works perfectly, the only thing that doesn't work is the display front, I did a reset to factory default (Hold down MULTI & SPEAKER A/B buttons on the front panel receiver simultaneously with the power turned on for 3+ sec.) I have connected 1 Panasonic TX-P42S20E tv ,1 desktop pc ,1 Yamaha BD-S1067 BD player ,1 Zektor Mas3 audio swich ,1 Sony XA-1200ES SACD player ,2 laserdisc Pioneer (DVL-909/CLD-D925) ,1 Oppo DV-981HD DVD player ;everything works (audio & video)
Hi Mark, I would like to thank again for sharing the reset protocol for the Marantz (worked on SR6200), repeated below for others. 1. Turn on and make sure the unit is in standby mode 2. Press A/D, F/P and Dimmer for few seconds until power comes on. 3. Volume will reset and displays -75dB. End of reset ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Please allow me to share my the other unusual repair on the same SR6200. Problem description: The unit turns on, operate normal for few minutes and turns off to standby (protect) mode. It will work again after some cooling but goes back to protect mode. In addition, when another instrument sharing the same main line turns off, this unit randomly triggers into protect mode (very unusual, as if ground is shaky...). Diagnosis: I traced all three sensing circuits tied to the "protection" pin 55 on the microprocessor as follows, and they are normal. All power amplifier 6 channel sections including individual transistors and resistors checked normal. DC power lines, +/-5, +/-15 +/- B(+57) all checked in perfect and normal range. Speaker output dc offset checked well within few mV range. It confused me a lot and more testing on each of the lines to identify which one is triggering the protect. Finally able to conclude the culprit was the +/-B line sensing ~! Further investigation of the actual circuit revealed that these +/- regulated voltage pairs (+/- 5, +/- 15 and +/- 57) are sensed by two equal resistors. One resistor to the + and the other -. Mid voltage therefore should be either exactly zero or close to zero under normal condition (e.g., for B line, +57, -57, R128=51k, R129=51k). If one of the regulated voltage is out of normal range, this mid voltage will drift from zero driving base to emitter of a transistor switch circuit, triggering the protect line, simple and logical. Sure enough, when I measure the base to emitter voltage of the mid point voltage of the B line, it is not zero (starts at around 0.3, still high but well below 0.7), it rises and the protect triggers when the voltage reaches around 0.53V. All this time B lines remain perfect +57 and -57. Conclusion: two sensing resistors (supposedly 1% tolerance) were at their worst limits (one at +1%, the other at -1%). Over the time this got worse along with other drifting factors. Solution: Adjust one resistor value just enough to make the mid voltage back to zero. I added a 620k in parallel with one 51k. VOILA~~! Problem solved. I was very happy but puzzled by this unusual combination of what appears to be a design deficiency (i.e., for the B lines, the worst case +/- 1 % will predictably result in 0.57V at the mid point. So, I say it is a design oversight by Marantz and this problem will bound to happen in however few unfortunate units, mine included, that has the worst case tolerances during the manufacturing. I am happy to rest the case and would like to share it. Cheers, Vancouver, Canada
It was unexpected for me as well. Afterwards, it explains why the unit went into the protect mode when another instrument sharing the same 120V main line is turned off. The mid point sense voltage was right at the border (around 0.4~0.5V) and the transient was just enough to make it go over the triggering level. After fixing the above, I still had the problem of AM frequency step being stuck at 9 KHz (FM was normal). So, searching how to reset the AM step frequency or the unit itself and ended up reading through your video. There it was ~! How to reset. My unit is now perfectly well and happy. Thanks to you~!!
Mark. Thanks for the great info, and if I may say: all these people who want free advice, honestly, you are going way beyond the call of any duty. In fact, you have no duty to give out free advise at all, what you have already offered is more than any of us have coming, when we are paying zip for the info. Thank you again
Dear Mark. You are an Angel for the many of us here and specially me a layman. I have separates, Marantz MM 7055 paired to AV 7005.. My MM 7055 amplifier prior to being totally dead while my AV 7005 still powers up was intermittently starting up with a delay of 20 seconds of clicking sound from the amplifier and then playing music for a good 10 to 15 minutes then preceding to some scratchy disturbances for 10 secs or so, and then a pin drop silence with no audible music from the source, but both the display from the units still powered up. I had then to unplug and re power the unit just to notice the same cycle again. Lately there is no more activation from the amplifier but it is totally dead, while my AV 7005 displays and powers up. I tired checking the speakers wire for any shortages, also disconnected and reconnected the mains power, but the amp is just dead. Could you kindly throw some light as to what must have happened. It took a month or so to totally die with an average play time of 15 minutes a day. Thanks in advance for your kind assistance. God bless.
Hi, I have a Marantz sr5008 after an update it stopped working (firmware error) I did what you described in the video but it didn't work, where could I get the firmware for the European version to install it via USB, thank you very much
Just in case someone else runs into protection mode problem , the solution was to reset the amp by holding down the "S. Speaker B", "ATT", and "EXIT" buttons for three seconds. Somehow this was not documented in the manual, I found it in some dusty old forum.
Biju Kumar . Thanks. I have Marantz MM 7055 amp paired with AV 7005 processor. Please guide and tell me how to get off this protection mode. Thanks from Antonio Goa state of India.
Hi Mark. I have a SR6012 and have noticed a faint electromagnetic field sound coming out of the AV Receiver. And its starts when the Av receiver warms up. And amplified when you connect the speaker. Do you think its coming out of the faulty transformer?
service wide in Downers grove fixed my SR-18EX in one day , after a man in racine wisconsin had it for over a month and did nothing to tell me what was wrong with my receiver . I like service wide Technologies in downers grove , Illinois . I have no complaints with them
Hi mark great video..I have marantz pm6004 and the right channel on both speakers a& B is not working...any ideas that could help..is there a reset for this issue? Thanks in advance
Hi, just follow Mark Zacharias tip, with a SR5004 problem blinking fast red light, and found the R211 blow, also many solder joins cracked, after switch the resistor, you can listen to relay working, the light stops blinking but no information on display. the receiver only stoped blinking after hard reset. I think it miss some voltage on board.
Hey Mark, I have the Marantz SR6005 and the audio all of a sudden is choppy and it stopped showing video through my fire stick which was plugged into the hdmi. I did try all the hdmi ports, and same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hello mark, I have sourced the buzzing noise on my marantz nr1602 to the power supply, there is a small PCB that the power chord is connected to, that is were the noise is coming from, only happens a few minutes after powering up the receiver, thanks.
Hi Mark, I have a SR8001 Marantz receiver that is giving me an error of check pow5. If I unplug it for awhile it will reset then work here and there. I’ve had it for a couple years and never had an issue. Where do you think I should start looking? Thanks in advance.
This is really the sort of thing for a technician with experience on this type of problem. I would try to reset the unit according to your owners manual, even though that will be hard with no display. This is sometimes worth a try. After that I would start by looking to see that the filament voltage for the display tube is present; also the -30 volt bias voltage. If the receiver just died after playing loud for a long time, the main power transformer might be bad. I can provide a service manual.
hi mark, i have a marantz pm6004 integrated amplifier, very seldom used, however when i turned it on, it goes into protection mode red light blinking about 2/sec, unplugged the unit but no luck. is there a way i can reset it, here in the philippines there seems to be no authorised service center for marantz products so any advice will be a great help. thanks
My Amplifair sr4001 marantz power protaction stand by is display message is check pow5 i I don't know How i can remove the problem Please help us help me
Hi Mark, great info. Been reading through all your responses and other info to see if I could find anything but no luck. I understand also about the support aspect from Marantz, a bit disappointing to say the least. Question- I have a friend's SR5005 that randomly shuts down. It's been back to the service center and they say it's fine. Same problem happens after a while. I've set this unit up in my garage(Ontario, Canada. aka- cold) this week just to try something else. Different wiring and speakers set to low/no vol. I found it shut down and not able to re-set a thermal error(I have a copy of the service manual). Basically I would get 5 seconds or so before it would shut down again. I brought the unit inside, let it warm up for a few hours and was able to clear the error. Seems odd that it would be cold and give a thermal. Unit then will exhibit the same problem. I'm kinda at a stand still on this and looking for any ideas.
There was a service bulletin on what I believe is your problem and the service center should have been aware of it. It includes a picture or two so I need your e-mail address and I can send it to you. Sadly Marantz kicked my company to the curb in 2016 so I no longer have access to any newer bulletins. You can e-mail me at mark_zacharias@labolgcbs.net and reverse "labolgcbs" to read "sbcglobal".
Hi Mark, any thoughts before I start delving into my Marantz SR870 please? Every few days, very intermittently, it will spontaneously power down then usually but not always come back up. Display goes off, red standby light goes off, all relays drop out etc. Sometimes it wont come back up but red standby light will blink randomly. Nothing visually obvious inside. Have replaced the mains lead, no difference. I have the full service manual. Thanks!
Excellent thanks Mark. After 19 years I would have looked for faulty components on that board. I'll have a go tomorrow and report back (I'm in Australia so different time zones..)
It is a bit early to be sure but it looks like I did a successful repair thanks Mark! I took macro photos, and they showed all 3 of the solder joints to the primary of the standby transformer to be physically broken. To the naked eye only 1 looked suspect. I re-soldered every transformer joint and every regulator IC joint. So far it has been 100% good. I think that the design is poor, my theory is that tightening down the 2 screws that hold the transformer to the chassis (sandwiching the pcb in the process) forces the transformer into the pcb and stresses the solder joints. Thanks again!
I already checked the outputs there is nothing burned and also the regulators of the source is ok but the sr5004 marantz does not turn on the led of the flashing I would like to reset the device to check if it reconnects and I tried to do the rest but until I did not succeed right now, thank you.
Hi Mark, I bought Marantz 6011 from another country and brought back to mine. From hdmi, there is only display and no sound. Unfortunately there is no authorised technician here. My receiver also does not detect any network, it keeps on searching it. Could you please indicate where should I start looking? It will be a great help.
I have a sr6005 that has a blinking light and shuts off when I power it on. I think I tried the correct reset sequence but it continues to shut off. How can I check if any channels are blown with a multimeter? or do I need an Octopus like you have?
Check the fuses and try to check the output from each of the voltage regulators during the interval before it shuts down in protection (if you can get to them anyhow). The 7-channel amp assembly pretty much needs to be removed to test the the output transistors with a multimeter. Each transistor can be checked pretty much like any regular transistor; be on the lookout for burned resistors in the general area - that's a dead giveaway of a blown channel.
Hi I'm Muralee Krishna from India I have a Marantz PM 7003 Anplifier not working because of bad U-COM Board. I given it to Merantz Service here in India, and after 5-6 month of searching they told they are unable to buy the spare board. Where can I find a replacement Board
Hi Mark. My SR6004 has no sound output, although I'm getting headphone output. Displays work fine. Could this possibly be a burned out amp? If so, can it be repaired? Thanks for your time.
drumology1 There is a sensing switch that is part of the headphone jack which may be malfunctioning. I have seen this on other models. If there is a detachable plug associated with the headphone jack try unplugging that. The speakers might work then.
A couple questions on the use of the Octopus, do you have the test unit (Marantz) powered on, and which leg of the transisotrs were you probing to test them. I found schematics for an Octopus on line and am considering building one, but they don't give alot of detail on use to use one. Keep the videos going please, I have learned alot from you
Hey Mark my name is Dave and I have a Marantz NR 1605 unit that after attempting to update the firmware via usb my unit now won't power on except the message indicating connection fail 36 message on the front panel. The power button stays on red all the times and when I hold it down it only seems to reset but to the same message. When I tried to reset the unit the with the M-DAX and ZONE 2 SOURCE buttons nothing happens and just get a MAIN: 37 MIN message alternating with the CONNECTION FAIL 36 screen. Is it possible that I have lost power to the rest of the unit doing the USB update and if so what can I do to undo the firmware that is loaded? Thank for You Help
hello , mark i have a marantz sr9600 receiver ,that stopped working , when I turn it on the screen says check power and then powers off , it is out of warranty , do you know around how much will cost me to fix it ?, can you do it ? i live in California , but I am willing to ship it , thank you.
Hello mark. I have a marantz sr 5200. There is no sound coning from the front left and right channel. Ssound test shows no sound as well. Ive checked all settings connections and even done a resey. please help. It's just the front left and right channel that dont work.
Mark Zacharias hello mark. There is no a or b speakers switch on this unit. Ive checked all the settings. I think something internally has gone wrong. I dont know what
Hi Mark, Please, can you help me? I have a Marantz SR8002 and we has a water leak into it. It was in standy and smelled burn. After drying properly I plugged it and Standby was normal, turning on it went to protection level 2 (red led blinking fast). The smell was comming from amplifier board and I figuring that some transistor went bad (short circuit). As I am mid skill tech, do you think I am capable for fixing it? I have only a multimeter. What should I look for?
This model is very difficult to service, and you probably do have a blown amp channel. Considering it's age, I would be thinking of replacing it. I do favor Yamaha over Marantz for a variety of reasons. If you do attempt repair, I might suggest simply buying a parts unit on eBay with a known good amp module, and replace the whole module. Component level repair is likely not practical in your case.
Hi Mark I have a Marantz SR7002 in protection (red led blinking fast). I reset the receiver and it powers on, but after ~3 seconds again enters in protection. Since everything is crammed it’s a bit difficult to take measurements. I don’t have the means (the "octopus") to measure correctly the transistors in circuit (I can only measure off power, for any short), and I wonder how to measure voltages, since it powers of (after reset) very quickly. From your experience, what would usually be the culprit? A blown channel (power transistor), or a voltage regulator? Sure thing I will try both later, but just a hint where I should start. Thanks in advance.
I've seen a couple with similar problems. I gotta say - if you are not an experienced technician this is probably not something you can fix yourself. This model is not for the faint of heart.
Mark Zacharias Agree, it’s way over my head. However, just for fun, I (kind of) removed the regulatory board, so that I have easier access. Without removing any component, I noticed that the R904 (0.33 ohm 1W) is open, but unfortunately the fuse F902 (T 5A 250V) is also open. No idea if they are connected (doesn’t seem so from the schematics), but the bad fuse it’s an ominous sign. Even if I replace them (the resistor and fuse), the fuse I believe will go off again, once I power it on.
170watt Well, if you are into it this far, replace the .33 ohm resistor, replace both 5 amp fuses with 6.3 amp, and check the bridge rectifier - it could be bad. I actually used 8 amp fuses. Not something I would normally do but the circuit was drawing up to about 4 amps ac, long story short it hasn't been back for another re-do. Replacing only the fuse, it had come back, this time with a shorted rectifier.
Mark Zacharias It seems I’ve made a mistake. The fuse is not bad after all. I didn’t press enough on the leads when checked. That’s why this job shouldn’t be done by rookies. Anyway, the resistor is still bad, so I will replace only this one. I don’t have any components available though, the closest I have is a 3.3 ohm, but I’ll see what I can find tomorrow at an electronics shop. If not, I will order from eBay, but it will take a while. Thanks for your input!
Hi Mark ! I have changed some capacitors to my computers (mother boards), and my BAT VK3i tube preamplifier, and I have a multimeter ;But I'm just a fan of music Thank you very much for your reply Regards Carlos Barrera
hey mark i have an marantz sr6008 when i try and power on unit no display comes on the front of unit and if i leave it on the the light for the power button will go out eventually i checked the fuses inside unit and they check out any ideas what i should check next ?
Mark, My daughter played her Iphone 6 music through my Marantz NR1602 amp at full volume (100%) for about an hour, while I was out, and seems to have killed it! She said the music stopped and the amp felt very hot The only signs of life are the red light on the standby button and a little blue light when pressing Pure direct. The picture comes through however from the tv box and blu ray player...but no sound. The amp was not in a cabinet but I presume its overheated. Could it be reset or is something likely to have melted?
+Mark Zacharias Thank Mark. I've had it since new and originally had it in a cabinet. The first time we had a party however it overheated and switched itself off. It came back on once it had cooled down. After that I took it out of the cabinet, which was a shame as that was the whole point of buying a slimline amp. It's not coming back on this time so I expect somethings blown as you suggest. Would the transformer be fixable? A new one is £121 and I'd be worried something else might be damaged also. It'd probably only be worth £175 now anyway. If I did get it fixed I'd prefer it back in the cabinet but am surprised at the lack of cooling fan systems available to stop it overheating. Have you come across anything suitable in this respect? Steve
+steve hannaby With Marantz generally a slow blink indicates a thermal problem, a fast blink is generally an over current problem. On the older ones a slow blink could be reset by just unplugging the receiver and plugging back in after the cool down period. This assumes no actual damage of course. There are reset procedures involving front panel buttons but I no longer have access to this information. With prior models you might press and hold the Surround Mode, Exit, and Clear buttons for three to five seconds. You could try various similar combinations on yours. Might get lucky.
Hi Mark I have a SR6004 with this exact problem. I fix it by doing the reset, but it randomly goes out and I continually have to reset it every few days, or sometimes several times in one day. If I take it to repair, and they just reset it, that is the same as I have been doing. Do I have to live with this issue, or can it be permanently fixed. If there is a permanent fix, is there any ballpark cost range you can estimate?
ED CONTO If it's a fast blink on the standby LED, you are probably playing it too loud, have a bad speaker or wire, or too low a speaker impedance, combined with loud volume. If it's a slow blink it may be sensing a temperature issue. A slow blink can usually be reset by just unplugging and re-plugging the power cord.
Hello Mark! i would like to ask what is the reset code of marantz sr5200, i bought it from ebay and there is only sound output when its on S-direct mode. the A/D, A/F and Dimmer mode is not working. thanks!
+benjie caigoy I'm not able to find any published information on this and I'm no longer Marantz Authorized. :-( Back in the day they gave me this for my SR7200 - give it a try. " SR7200 Plug in while holding A/D, F/P and Dimmer. Hold til power comes on. Vol will reset to -75dB.
Hi. I have the marantz SR6001. Standby light is flashing, reset don'`t work. I checked for shorted transistors but didn`t find one. Is there something else i can check? i heard about defect heat sensor? how can i test that. I see one on the big heatsink.
Mark Zacharias I kept trying it now and then since last week, but this time I plugged it in and did tap the tape monitor button like morse code and the fm mute and it just kicked in and had a volume boost/normal. Basically I was being silly and it suddenly kicked in. The volume spiked up instantly and I knew I had it. I have been listening to music all afternoon with it in the garage. Not a bad buy for $10.67 from GoodWill.
I have a question, i got for free a marantz SR8002 that's stuck in protection mode, resetting protection mode will have it run until the amp gets powered then it immediately enters protection mode again, i have tried all the recommended things (resetting protection mode and unplugging for extended periods of time etc) and i think its the amp, what kind of issue do you think it may be? Could it be a resistor issue like here? I don't know exactly why or what caused it to break down (i got it for free from a shop that didn't have any use for it) and am not sure where to start
More likely fuse(s) F901, F902 or resistor(s) R903, R904 on the regulated power supply board. They show 5A fuses there but I've seen 8A fuses in actual units. Also the bridge rectifier D905 occasionally shorts. The amp sections are pretty reliable - but if they do blow it's not pretty - there would probably be a visible burned area.
Hi, i have a SR5004 and the right sound is extremely low, even after tuning the volumes in the setup. Same issue with any audio source, and already checked the cables and speakers. i am an electronic hobbyist and I'd like to try and fix it myself. What should i look at first ? Thanks
Etienne Vander Elst I think I would try to re-initialize per instructions in the owners manual, page 82. With the unit turned ON, press and hold "Surround Mode" and "Clear" for 3 seconds. Should return everything to factory settings.
Hi Marc, I need some help! I have a SR7005. It has a problem that has been looked at by Marantz several times, but it has never really been fixed. I have a home cinema with 5.1 setup. The center speaker (best KEF Q series)works a little bit at maybe 10 % of the normal testtone when checked. When i turn the marantz off and come back the next day without changing anything to the settings the problem is( may be) gone and now one of the left rear speakers is doing the same thing. It seems to be a software issue. I myself have no technical background but try to approch it logically. We tested switching speakers to see if the problem was in the connections, but that is not it. Do you have any clue what might be the problem here.
I don't think it's software. Would require troubleshooting but I would start with possible bad solder connections either on the amp board or in the area of speaker relays and speaker connectors, or you could be starting to have issues with the relays themselves. If you can goose the volume and it makes a channel come back on for a while, it's definitely a bad connection somewhere.
hello mark, thanks for your very informative video, I have a Marantz nr1602, every seems to be fine excepting a screeching noise is heard a few minutes after start up, do you think this could be a power board issue, thanks.
lascelles campbell More likely the digital (hdmi) board, That's where most of the audio magic occurs. You could check the power supplies to make sure they're ok and look at them with a scope and see they aren't noisy.
+electro_man lie I would just have to start from the beginning - measure DC power supply voltages, microprocessor reset lines, etc. Not aware of any common problems to account for this.
+Mark Zacharias i have harman kardon hk 870.. the problem is,a nasty dc voltage at the speaker output terminal.. over 50vdc.. the caps n output transistor no faulty.. what happen mark?
Hi Mark I have a sr 6008 model after turning goes to sleep flashing red light. amp is ok to PCB digital ist well. maybe you had occasions to save this model?
I would check each amp channel for any DC offset. Maybe one channels has this, maybe all, maybe none. Once this is established I would have some idea how to proceed - is it an amp problem or power supply. It's not very likely the microprocessor itself.
I did mention voltage regulators in my last comment. If there is no DC at output of each amp channel, and all the voltage regulators you can find appear to be putting out rated voltage, there is a chance there is a temperature sensing problem. A few Marantz's have had false over-temp triggering in the past. I don't know about this model, and I no longer have access to service bulletins.
hi mark. i hope you can take time to help me. i have an marantz sr5003 that i by mistake let the speaker wiers lay together (dont know how to say that in english) and now its in protection mode. i have tried to reset it and it just gets back to protection mode again. Where do i start to check if anything is broken? Thanks.
This is where a real technician makes his money. It is not normally a do it yourself type of repair. There will be bad output transistors, at the minimum several other parts that are bad but look good, such as smaller transistors, resistors, zener diodes etc. Any single bad part missed in the initial assessment can easily result in all newly replaced parts being destroyed again the instant power is applied. Additionally there is a complicated dis-assembly and re-assembly process on this model. No place for a newbie or beginner. To make matters worse there is the issue of counterfeit parts from eBay, etc.
i have marantz sr6004.in the begging when the av goes off then didnt open at all even in standby mode.after some hours or some days it open again.tha was for a month...after the av didnt open again!!!can i do something manually?the power supply doesnt look to have any problem.thanks
Hi Mark, Nice video. I have a Marantz SR6001 with a buzz through the speakers constantly through all inputs which gets louder over time. It's not just a faint buzz, it's loud and makes the entire amp virtually unusable for sound. I have tried a reset but didn't make any difference. Is this a fault that you recognise?
Haven't specifically seen this on this unit - but hum is generally caused by bad power supply caps (ripple now being heard) bad ground connections, ground loops or near-shorts pulling the power supplies down. If you have a good multimeter - an unfiltered DC line will appear low compared to it's filtered counterpart. In the case of a + / - 12 volt regulator pair, if one measures 12 volts and the other -9.2 for example this type of discrepancy would be a clue. A 'scope can spot this type of fault pretty easily, but one must be extremely careful or one can damage the unit, the 'scope or both. The regulated power supply board mounted on the main heat sink next to the amp board IS a frequent offender on this model, I can tell you that. Too bad it's such a nasty mess to get to for service... UGH.
Mark: I have a Marantz SR18 receiver that I have been using as a 5 channel amp for the last 6 years, as of 3 days ago I do not get any sound out of any speaker that I have plugged into the Marantz. The Marantz powers on and the display works and senses an input, everything works fine ecxept it will not out put any sound, any ideas
I am very familiar with these. There is probably a blown amp channel like in my SR-18 repair video, this causes the protection IC not to fire the speaker relays. Also there are common issues with a 5.6 volt regulator and a backup capacitor which should also be addressed. Not for the faint of heart.
Mark: I had my Marantz Sr18 repaired, it cost me $280.00, the guy told me I had a blown channel but he could not tell me which channel was blown, on the receipt it said they replaced several resistors, transistors, and capacitors, it took them 1 day to fix it, fast forward 3 weeks and I got the same problem, part of me wonders if all they did was some sort or hard reset on the unit to get it working? What would cause this to keep happening? I use the SR18 as a 5 channel amp, since I got it back I was using it as a 4 channel amp thinking it would not be stressed. Is it not safe to use with 4 and 6 ohm speakers, I have powered 4 ohm speakers since 1999 with the SR18 and I never had an issue before or has age caught up to the receiver. Thanks again for your continued feedback.
Michael Butny Good for them if it was a blown channel - that's not an easy fix. If it's out again, they might have missed the bad solder connections at the molex connectors which most always cause this problem in the first place. Also at this age there is that microprocessor reset problem caused by C830 on the PS04 board underneath. I've seen several with this. Causes the receiver not to turn on at all. There's no "reset" like newer models have. The reset signal is something all microprocessors need to start correctly.
Hi mark why do you prefer Yamaha over Marantz? I am looking for another receiver at the moment my 2month old onkyo is out for repair already and on it's way back to me the technician said it needed a DSP firmware update that's why I had no sound. But I have been reading about onkyo reliability and they seem to have some issues over last few years. I heard Yamaha is pretty reliable, is this the reason you prefer the Yamaha? Thanks.
Let's see... 1. Yamaha builds their own product, Marantz may design their own (which I'm not sure of) but are physically manufactured by a third party in China. 2. Yamaha's have a long and consistent approach in engineering and customer support which means that as a technician I can readily apply a consistent technique and troubleshooting mindset, and they take generally better care of their customers although to be honest, Marantz tries hard. See #3 below. 3. Although they have a three year warranty, the higher failure rates of the (very expensive and increasingly impossible to field-service) Marantz HDMI boards means they have shortages of these boards and problems supporting the product without just replacing failed units, usually with a "B" stock unit. 4. Yamaha's use more reliable Silicon Image HDMI chipsets; Marantz uses chipsets from Analog Devices. In my experience the failure rate of these chips is at least twice as high on the Marantz (and related Denon) models. 5. Yamaha's have sophisticated diagnostics for service. Marantz is hit and miss at best in this respect.
Mark Zacharias Ok mark say no more the Yamaha will be my next AV receiver for sure. Thank you for the wisdom sir I needed some guidance in getting a av receiver that would be reliable because this is very important to me.
There's never any guarantees even with Yamaha, but as nice as the Marantz is, style and function wise, Yamaha is better inside, and their support is better.
I should have mentioned that Marantz (and Denon's) ability to support their product has been diminished by financial problems. I'm fond of saying if they could just make an HDMI board that worked, they wouldn't be in trouble. In March D&M Holdings - Marantz's parent company - was acquired by a Wall Street type holding company called Sound United.
Mark Zacharias : I understand that there is never any guarantee with either of them and I can live with that. But as you say the Yamaha is better on the inside and that's a big plus for me.
hi mark the Marantz sr 9600 amplifier has this issue . its display saids . (check dsd/dsp , and volume cut off continuously I did reset to factory but nothing happens let me know cost and how to do thanks
I've got an SR6004 on which I replaced R960 because it was open. However after reset it seems to start up normally but freezes (no reaction on the display anymore) after 10-30 seconds. After power cycling the unit the display stays blank. If I then unplug the unit and leave it for several hours it will turn on, but freeze again after 10-30 seconds. I suspect some problem near the processor, but has any experienced this before and/or know a solution ?
It seems that +5Vd (pin 4 on cn82) is only 0.5 v. I'm trying to figure out where the voltage should come from, but his is quit hard without a schematic. I suppose schematics aren't available anywhere ?
I can send you a PDF. If there are file size limits on your email acct I may need to send in RAR chunks. Give me your email address. If you need to anti-spam it give me a clue.
Hi Mark. Thanks for offering me the pdf. In the mean while I asked around and I already got it. It helped me quit a bit further. It appears that I've a short in my hdmi board between 5vh and gnd. I remove the hdmi board from the receiver and put power only between 5vh and ground. I limited my bench power supply on 750 mA which resulted in a voltage of only 1.8 V. I've ordered freeze spray and I hope it will help me find the short. I'll keep you posted.
I found the problem. IC11 (SIL9185ACTU, HDMI) shorts the 1.8v as well as the 3.3v to ground.I've now removed 3 coils so that the ic no longer gets any current and the receiver starts up. I've at least sound on my headphones, but I assume the speaker outputs will work as well. I've ordered the IC, and when I receive it (probably a couple of weeks), I will switch it.
Hi Mark, Got a question. I ve got a marantz sr5007 which recently went in to protection mode and the standby light flashing fast. After a week it started up again and I had a joy-moment...but sadly enough I hooked some speakers on it and noticed the left front channel is not working properly , making cracking noise and soft sound Do you have any suggestions? I don't have any special electronic tools to measure the system :( only a old multimeter.... Hope you have any tips.
Better check that speaker and it's wiring (with the unit OFF). If no problems there I would try a reset per the owners manual. Then, with unit unplugged I would use the ohm-meter function of the multi-meter to see if the emitter resistors are OK, then see if I could determine any differences resistance-wise between the affected channel and the others. I would then try to look for voltage differences compared to other channels. Perhaps for instance there is no amp bias. I that case there would be zero voltage at the bases of the outputs on that channel, instead of the (probably) 1.2 or so volts I would expect.
Hi Mark, thanks for the reply. Sadly enough already check with another set of speakers..... And that's not it. I have to comeback on the channel. Apparently it is the right front channel. It will make some sound when I crank up the sound really loud but it stays low and sounds crackling... Will do some measurements the upcoming days...
hi Mark, just opened up the Marantz again. but not really sure what to expect when measuring the emitters. do you measure between the B and C or E and B ? is there a possibility to send you a pic of the board?
hi mark I have a Marantz sr 9600 amplifier with this problem . its display saids . (check dsd/dsp , and volume cut off continuously I did reset to factory but nothing happens any idea can you help me ? please thanks
I have 5004 model , it resets itself constantly , hard reset doesnt work. Service say HDMI board broken and only replacement possible. They said a possible DC voltage leak from HDMI caused this .
Hey Mark, Thanks for the videos :D I have a Marantz SR6007 which was going into protect and not turning on because of a blown channel. I have removed the faulty output transistors and emitter resistors and it now turns on! I can change through inputs etc but I dont get any audio at all or hear any relays clicking. Have you any Ideas what this could mean?
I have never favored simply disabling a bad channel this way, but with no relay click - at this point I'm thinking a power supply issue. Something that isn't causing an offset, like no main amp power, no plus - minus 15 volt supplies, etc.
+Mark Zacharias after posting my question just by luck I noticed a BGA chip on the HDMI board getting extremely hot, has a visible hot spot on it. The chip is for controlling HDMI inputs etc. I have removed it, the short has gone so will replace and see where I stand! After that I will check voltages like you suggested. Thanks! Is there any sense circuitry that would see the missing channel? And protect by muting or something like that? Thanks again for taking the time to post the videos!
Hello I have an Onkyo TX-810 that seems to have an amplifier protection cicuit issue (low volume through speakers even when maxed out) I have tried some internet tips, but nothing helped so far. Ironically with the channel name of Tesla, I do not know anything about electronics to tackle this Onkyo. Thanks
You might check that the "tape monitor" is not engaged. That would produce your symptom. Turn the volume down first, then find the tape monitor button and try pressing it, or if it is a knob, turn it to the source position. If the tape monitor idea is no good, there might be a protection issue. Do you hear the speaker relay click several seconds after turn-on?
Mark Zacharias Hi, I already looked into the tape monitor possibility. That cancels output to speakers I have output to speakers, but have to crank it 100% max to barely hear any radio come in. I am testing this with old (don't care if they blow up) speaker(s). I own Klipsch and they are fine/like new I do hear a click sound like a relay after starting yes Thanks for the quick reply
OK, but if it were the tape monitor, at high volume you would usually hear a bleed through. If the speaker relay comes on normally I think I would check the + and - voltage supply to the input switching IC, although if these voltages were missing, I might think whatever bleed through would also be distorted. If the relay isn't coming on, I would definitely look for a DC offset at one or both amp channels; could even be a blown channel.
Mark Zacharias I just know in order to hear anything it has to be cracked 100% This holds true for the headphone jack as well It just suddenly happened out of the blue, no sounds/warning I'll have to open it again and take a peek. Thanks for the replies I only paid $10.67 for it at a Goodwill, I got my $ worth I just would hate to trash it if it is something bonehead simple to fix
Mark - great video! I am looking for a replacement board for a Marantz SR7005. The Board is beyond repair. Any Suggestions on finding replacement boards? This board houses the Power Switch, Power LED, and the Rotary switch for input selection - Board ID 8U110100-3...
They have a three year warranty on those. I would suggest contact Marantz for a warranty repair. Even if you are second owner - they know when they built it, according to the serial number. Talk to a Customer Service Rep and they should help you. Be polite but insistent. As to what is wrong - I cannot troubleshoot at a distance. The most likely things as always are blown or otherwise malfunctioning amp channel, or power supply issues.
The tester (octopus) has it's own power - in this case a 6.2 volt transformer. The Marantz is not powered. The test you see is from the emitter leg of each channel to chassis ground.
Hi Mark and All, I have a Marantz SR6003 with fast blinking standby light once I power on the switch button. No response from the remote controller, no clicks heard on the relays and no display. I tried to reseat using the Surround Mode" and "Clear" button but no response. I checked throughly the power supply circuits and no defective parts were found as well on the power amp section. I am only getting +5VL on the power regulartor section at all normal connection. So what i did is i removed the power supply section (also removed the output connections from the boards) and i tigger the relay and i was able to get output on the vital voltage output on the regulators. I was also able to get the +-52 volts DC. Can you please share your ideas how to further proceed with this? TIA...,
MrBig9529 There is a chance that "R960" on the Regulator 1 board might be bad. I say maybe because in the schematic they note R960 as a "dummy". Haven't seen them use this terminology before. I have seen similar models using a 10 ohm resistor there and it goes bad, unbalancing the + and - 12volt lines. If this is the case in yours - replace it with a jumper. Then try the reset.
Mark Zacharias fantastic Mark, its now working!. but instead of reseating using "Surround Mode" and "Clear" buttons, i used this 2 buttons and the exit buttons. Thanks a lot Mark...
+Mark Zacharias :-)Hi Mark And All, Just another question but i guess this is not specific to this model. I noticed that some (if not all) that the transformer feeding supply to the power amp section of the AVR has 2 different set secondary voltage. The other set is lower that the other set . The first set is connected to the Normally Open pins of the relay and the other set are connected to the Normally Close pins of the relay. Relay is DPDT. Thanks in Advance
MrBig9529 Check R960 on the regulator 1 board. If it is open replace it with a jumper wire. The secondary voltages are switched according to speaker impedance selection. The outputs run at a lower voltage for a lower impedance setting.
hi mark thanks for you reply I know very little electronic never working on audio but i'm going to try do something with it do you please can give me any idea, tip. if was you whats ? where?. you will be start looking for the problem when one of this units display check dsd/dsp and volume cut off continuously? I appreciate any tip one more time thanks
pirrunga17 Most people trying to work on one of these would just botch it, ruin it. Having said that - I would at least check those power supply lines which pertain to the DSP section.
@wug1229 I doubt it will play any louder. You are going to have problems with shutdowns and even blown amps until you lower the average volume, at least get more efficient speakers, or use your receiver pre-outs to feed bigger power amps. Even that probably won't get the volume you want. You need a P.A. system for a rock concert type system. I can't break the laws of physics. To play 10db louder than a 100 watt amp requires 1000 watts.
benjie caigoy I've never worked on this model. At a glance - it looks like the only sure way to fix it is to replace the dsp board. Unfortunately, Marantz never provided these boards as replacement parts. Your best best is to just replace the receiver, although you could possibly find a used 4400 on eBay for parts.
Hi I have a marantz sr 5004 . It works fine for about 30 minutes. After that it starts to make a clicking sound continuously. You shut it down for a few hours and it is back to same cycle. Works 30 minutes and then the same clicking sound. What could be the problem?? Ash
This thing was with my Marantz SR 72, It is because of heating issue. What I did, I installed a small exhaust fan on the top of the unit, which take out heat from the inside of Marantz unit and problem so;ved. Hope this works for you.
Hi Mark I have SR6003 went on Standby, manual says reset is Surround Mode + Clear on page 77, however it's not reseting, the blink is just 1flash per second Thank you for your help
@BSF801132957 The only way I know of is keep an eye out on eBay for a used or broken one. I think it's a recent model, so a parts unit might not come up for a long time...
Hi mark i own a maranta SR-7007 receiver its a 2012 model. The problem i am have at the moment is i get popping sounds while playing video games in and out sounds it goes off the sounds seems to be weird like its not a stoic sound more of a pop and then in and out the weird thing is its does not do this to me all the time if i let the receiver cool down i dont have the problem but long enough say if i game for a lot then it might happen. This problem just stating happening it comes and goes and its almost like its there and then not there .A friend of mind who installs these receiver maranta receiver thinks it could be my digital board.Have u heard any kind of problems with this model before Marantz SR-7007 Let me know none the less i am in the market maybe a year from now to upgrade as i bought this receiver in begging 2013 on a one call blow out deal there were doing for 1,000 bucks.and so now that i got 4K tv and gaming i might upgrade to have the better abitlys so yeah still would like to know if i can get this fixed.
I think it may be losing "sync" to the digital input signal. Your friend made a good guess - I would suggest the digital board (HDMI board). Marantz does not stock adequate numbers of these board even when the units are current production; and when they are available, they are very expensive. There is a company called United Radio which did refurb work for Marantz on HDMI boards, and they had a mail-in repair service for the boards and for whole receivers. You might Google them, contact them and see if they can help. So far as repairing the board, If it were mine I would certainly try tracing it out on the bench, but there's an awful lot of potential issues. If it's just that one input, of course I would look there, solder connections etc. Otherwise, issues with ball-grid array IC's, connectors, on-board voltage regulators, etc. Amp and power-supply related problems are so much easier!
I use the hdmi, rca multichannel , rca ,super video ,spdif , inputs/outputs ,I can watch videos and listen to audio of all my sources, but my display not will brighten from the panel front I can change all the fonts, the volume of audio, but for convenience I use the remote Control . I use 1 subwoofer B&W ASW800 , 2 Audiovector Mi3 signature (front speakers), 1 AV3Ci AVANTGARDE (central speaker) and 4 B&W 604-S2 (surrounds speakers)
Hi, I have marantz sr6001 with no sound output, not even on headphones. Few days ago, it was in protect mode and when I tried to turn it on, I heard couple of clicks and then it shuts off. Now Im able to turn it on, but theres no sound output. When i start it on I hear only one click. Guy from audio repair store told me that firmware needs to be updated. Does anyone know if that could solve the problem? Thanks.
systematic12 The main power transformer may have died. Was it really hot? Does the display come on? Do you hear the speaker relay(s) click several seconds after turn-on?
Mark Zacharias Thanks for reply. When I turn it on, theres no click after several seconds. Display is working, you can browse setup menu, etc. I was even able to do reset to default settings and factory reset as well. I havent noticed if it was hot before, but now its just warm.
@mdzacharias The board is broken in half, with half missing (power switch and LED side) ... Not sure what happened to it from the previous owner but everything else seems to work just fine. Otherwise it is in mint condition... Do you know of anyone that may be able to track these boards down? There has to be someone out there willing to sell this part.
my sr6004 have problem with the hdmi pcb.i cant find anywere used.new one the price is.....540euro!!!!!!!!can somebody now if and where can I find second hand??
@shogrran You have to start somewhere... Google "basic electronics" or "electronics fundamentals" and learn a bit about AC and DC electronics. Stay away from 120 volt primary stuff until you learn more. Good luck!
There 's no published info, but on my old SR7200 (same series) you would hold down the A/D, F/P and Dimmer buttons while plugging the unit in. You would know it reset if the volume came on at -75db.
Yeah, Marantz is anal about that. The theory is if it's really blown and the customer keeps trying to reset, it burns up more parts and maybe even causes a fire hazard. There was an earlier series where this could happen. Oh, well. The reset on this one is "Surround Mode" , "Exit" , "Clear" .
@catrineduardo21 Sorry, I no longer accept larger receivers on a mail-in basis. The bigger they are, the more likely to be damaged and I'm on the hook as the shipper and have to spend up to months hassling with UPS or Fedex. Try Service Wide Technologies at (630) 969-7333 2239 Curtiss Street Downers Grove, IL 60515 or try Marantz at 201-762-6666 and see if there's someone closer to you.
Hi Mark :
My Marantz SR8002 works perfectly, the only thing that doesn't work is the display front, I did a reset to factory default (Hold down MULTI & SPEAKER A/B buttons on the front panel receiver simultaneously with the power turned on for 3+ sec.) I have connected 1 Panasonic TX-P42S20E tv ,1 desktop pc ,1 Yamaha BD-S1067 BD player ,1 Zektor Mas3 audio swich ,1 Sony XA-1200ES SACD player ,2 laserdisc Pioneer (DVL-909/CLD-D925) ,1 Oppo DV-981HD DVD player ;everything works (audio & video)
Hi Mark, I would like to thank again for sharing the reset protocol for the Marantz (worked on SR6200), repeated below for others.
1. Turn on and make sure the unit is in standby mode
2. Press A/D, F/P and Dimmer for few seconds until power comes on.
3. Volume will reset and displays -75dB. End of reset
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Please allow me to share my the other unusual repair on the same SR6200.
Problem description:
The unit turns on, operate normal for few minutes and turns off to standby (protect) mode.
Cheers,
Vancouver, Canada
I've repaired may protection issues, including out-of-spec summing resistors. I have never seen a discrepancy this small cause a problem. Good job!
God bless.
grazie mille chiunque tu sia....
stavo per mandarlo in assistenza poi ho premuto quei tre magici tasti e tutto è come prima
Thanks a lot
Sir good day.. I have marantz sr-6004 but no sounds.
"Solved" search for Service Bulletin
No. : MZ09-136
i have also a marantz sr5004 the red light flashing fast how do you reset the amplifier in the video wich buttons
DDICyber The reset on this one is "Surround Mode" , "Exit" , "Clear" .
Hey Mark, I have the Marantz SR6005 and the audio all of a sudden is choppy and it stopped showing video through my fire stick which was plugged into the hdmi. I did try all the hdmi ports, and same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hello mark, I have sourced the buzzing noise on my marantz nr1602 to the power supply, there is a small PCB that the power chord is connected to, that is were the noise is coming from, only happens a few minutes after powering up the receiver, thanks.
anthony2010707 If that board is where the power comes in, that circuit is dangerous and you should probably stay away from it.
Hi Mark,
I have a SR8001 Marantz receiver that is giving me an error of check pow5.
I can provide a service manual.
hi mark, i have a marantz pm6004 integrated amplifier, very seldom used, however when i turned it on, it goes into protection mode red light blinking about 2/sec, unplugged the unit but no luck. is there a way i can reset it, here in the philippines there seems to be no authorised service center for marantz products so any advice will be a great help. thanks
My Amplifair sr4001 marantz power protaction stand by is display message is check pow5 i I don't know How i can remove the problem Please help us help me
Thanks for the videos, Mark.
Hello mistar maark,,,may emplifire marantz model 4002 no disple, pleej gaaied, displ e only line mediyam work, dark full disple no,,,
Hi Mark, great info.
Thanks!
Bad solder on the standby power board, mainly at the small standby power transformer, maybe also at the voltage regulator IC. Common problem.
Glad that worked out!
How do u fix HDMI slots that are not working
Hi I'm Muralee Krishna from India
I have a Marantz PM 7003 Anplifier not working because of bad U-COM Board.
Possibly just the "B" front speakers are switched on, and the main, "A" speakers turned off. I think there is a front panel speaker switch for this.
Mark Zacharias hello mark. There is no a or b speakers switch on this unit. Ive checked all the settings. I think something internally has gone wrong. I dont know what
Hi Mark,
Please, can you help me?
Hi Mark
I have a Marantz SR7002 in protection (red led blinking fast).
Mark Zacharias
Agree, it’s way over my head.
170watt
Well, if you are into it this far, replace the .33 ohm resistor, replace both 5 amp fuses with 6.3 amp, and check the bridge rectifier - it could be bad. I actually used 8 amp fuses. Not something I would normally do but the circuit was drawing up to about 4 amps ac, long story short it hasn't been back for another re-do. Replacing only the fuse, it had come back, this time with a shorted rectifier.
Mark Zacharias
It seems I’ve made a mistake.
170watt Don't replace with the 3.3 ohm. .22 would probably be ok.
Hi Mark !
I have changed some capacitors to my computers (mother boards), and my BAT VK3i tube preamplifier, and I have a multimeter ;But I'm just a fan of music
Thank you very much for your reply

hey mark i have an marantz sr6008 when i try and power on unit no display comes on the front of unit and if i leave it on the the light for the power button will go out eventually i checked the fuses inside unit and they check out any ideas what i should check next ?
+jordan coston Might check continuity of the main transformer primary...
+Steve H Something is probably blown. My first guess is the power transformer - they are at risk when at high volume for long periods of time.
SR7200 Plug in while
holding A/D, F/P
and Dimmer. Hold til
power comes on.
Vol will reset to
-75dB.
Thanks mark for a quick reply! I will do this while the amp is on standby?
+Mark Zacharias yes i did it what you said, the volume reset to -75. thanks a lot for your help. you are the man.
Thank you so much. This just fixed my SR6200 AM frequency step from 9 KHz (wrong) back to 10 KHz (right).
Hi. I have the marantz SR6001. Standby light is flashing, reset don'`t work. I checked for shorted transistors but didn`t find one. Is there something else i can check?
i heard about defect heat sensor? how can i test that. I see one on the big heatsink.
Hi Mark :
I have a Marantz SR8002 AV receiver, the display does not work (not lit) how I can fix it?
Tank You
I got it fixed, thanks for your help!
So what was the deal?
Mark Zacharias
I kept trying it now and then since last week, but this time I plugged it in and did tap the tape monitor button like morse code and the fm mute and it just kicked in and had a volume boost/normal.
Mark Zacharias Thanks for the advice! I will try out when i get home and let you know.
Mark Zacharias Hi again. I did re-initialize but the issue is still there :/
Etienne Vander Elst Well, then service is required - just would have to try to troubleshoot from the start.
Does pono live in a five in one, marntez emplifire
Ok, thanks for that information, cheers.
Just realized that there I'd no sound from the center channel and the surround modes are acting up, getting sound mostly in the multi channel mode.
hi mark.. how to fix marantz sr6003n,cant turn on only heard a relay clicking continously..
+electro_man lie I would just have to start from the beginning - measure DC power supply voltages, microprocessor reset lines, etc. Not aware of any common problems to account for this.
+Mark Zacharias thanks a lot mark.. its working now..
There are several voltage regulators easily accessible the output of which can be checked.
The output of amp tested are ok
It seems to me that it is related to power supply.
Hi Mark
I just want to say thanks!
I changed one diode , one LM 7908 nad it works.
hi mark. i hope you can take time to help me.
i have an marantz sr5003 that i by mistake let the speaker wiers lay together (dont know how to say that in english)
and now its in protection mode. i have tried to reset it and it just gets back to protection mode again.
I would simply have to check it myself. Sorry.
Michael Butny
Good for them if it was a blown channel - that's not an easy fix.
I haven't seen this but I would check to see if any of the power supply lines drop out or "droop" during this process.
Hi Mark,
Got a question. I ve got a marantz sr5007 which recently went in to protection mode and the standby light flashing fast. After a week it started up again and I had a joy-moment...but sadly enough I hooked some speakers on it and noticed the left front channel is not working properly , making cracking noise and soft sound
Do you have any suggestions?
Probably not a good one to learn on...
Mark Zacharias I was afraid of that haha.
you live somewhere near the Netherlands? maybe you can teach me a thing or 2 about it :D
hi Mark,
just opened up the Marantz again.
but not really sure what to expect when measuring the emitters. do you measure between the B and C or E and B ? is there a possibility to send you a pic of the board?
These types of problems can be difficult. Are you a technician? Have you access to a digital multimeter? Any experience troubleshooting?
Would really like to learn how these things work. I don't even know how to use a multi-tester.
hi mark I have a Marantz sr 9600 amplifier with this problem . its display saids .
(check dsd/dsp , and volume cut off continuously I did reset to factory but nothing happens any idea can you help me ? please thanks
pirrunga17 Never worked on a 9600 and no longer have access to Marantz service bulletins. I would just have to have it on the bench.
Surely I wouldnt need to reinstate this channel before the receiver will work again?
Hello
I have an Onkyo TX-810 that seems to have an amplifier protection cicuit issue
(low volume through speakers even when maxed out)
I have tried some internet tips, but nothing helped so far.
Mark Zacharias
Hi, I already looked into the tape monitor possibility. That cancels output to speakers
I have output to speakers, but have to crank it 100% max to barely hear any radio come in. I am testing this with old (don't care if they blow up) speaker(s). I own Klipsch and they are fine/like new
I do hear a click sound like a relay after starting yes
Thanks for the quick reply
OK, but if it were the tape monitor, at high volume you would usually hear a bleed through. If the speaker relay comes on normally I think I would check the + and - voltage supply to the input switching IC, although if these voltages were missing, I might think whatever bleed through would also be distorted. If the relay isn't coming on, I would definitely look for a DC offset at one or both amp channels; could even be a blown channel.
Mark Zacharias
I just know in order to hear anything it has to be cracked 100%
This holds true for the headphone jack as well
It just suddenly happened out of the blue, no sounds/warning
I'll have to open it again and take a peek.
Thanks for the replies
I only paid $10.67 for it at a Goodwill, I got my $ worth
I just would hate to trash it if it is something bonehead simple to fix
Mark - great video! I am looking for a replacement board for a Marantz SR7005. The Board is beyond repair. Any Suggestions on finding replacement boards? This board houses the Power Switch, Power LED, and the Rotary switch for input selection - Board ID 8U110100-3...
Dear mark,i have a problem in marantz sr7010 after turn on the device the stand by lamp's makes flash,,,,so what can i do?
They have a three year warranty on those. I would suggest contact Marantz for a warranty repair. Even if you are second owner - they know when they built it, according to the serial number. Talk to a Customer Service Rep and they should help you. Be polite but insistent. As to what is wrong - I cannot troubleshoot at a distance. The most likely things as always are blown or otherwise malfunctioning amp channel, or power supply issues.
Mark Zacharias would you please suggest to me marantz service please,,thank you
I no longer have any connection with Marantz. You should be able to Google contact information for your country.
Mark Zacharias would you please make video
YT reply thing said I was posting a link when I wasn't. Is it blinking. Fast or slow blink?
The tester (octopus) has it's own power - in this case a 6.2 volt transformer.
The Marantz is not powered. The test you see is from the emitter leg of each channel to chassis ground.
Hi Mark and All,
I have a Marantz SR6003 with fast blinking standby light once I power on the switch button.
MrBig9529 I accept Paypal... :-)
MrBig9529
Check R960 on the regulator 1 board. If it is open replace it with a jumper wire.
The secondary voltages are switched according to speaker impedance selection. The outputs run at a lower voltage for a lower impedance setting.
Hi Mark i wonder if You can repair my sr9600 marantz in the bench let me know what i need to do thanks
pirrunga17 Maybe better to send it to United Radio.
hi mark thanks for you reply I know very little electronic never working on audio but i'm going to try do something with it do you please can give me any idea, tip. if was you whats ? where?. you will be start looking for the problem when one of this units display check dsd/dsp and volume cut off continuously? I appreciate any tip
one more time thanks
pirrunga17 Most people trying to work on one of these would just botch it, ruin it. Having said that - I would at least check those power supply lines which pertain to the DSP section.
thanks
please could you help me I'm in Brazil how can I do the rest at marantz sr 5004 thanks
I need the exact same reset. What is this 'secret decoder ring info'?
Some of them are: "Surround Mode" , "Exit" , "Clear"
@@mdzacharias Would you know SR7008 secret?
@@foodieryder Can't find anything on the 7008.
Hi! I have marantz SR4400 the dispaly says ERROR DSPROM, how can i fix this? Thanks!
benjie caigoy I've never worked on this model. At a glance - it looks like the only sure way to fix it is to replace the dsp board. Unfortunately, Marantz never provided these boards as replacement parts. Your best best is to just replace the receiver, although you could possibly find a used 4400 on eBay for parts.
Thanks for a quick reply. Hope i can get a cheap one on ebay. Thanks again!
Hi I have a marantz sr 5004 . It works fine for about 30 minutes. After that it starts to make a clicking sound continuously. You shut it down for a few hours and it is back to same cycle. Works 30 minutes and then the same clicking sound. What could be the problem??
Ash
I can only suggest to start with power supply issues - various 5 volt regulators, etc.
This thing was with my Marantz SR 72, It is because of heating issue. What I did, I installed a small exhaust fan on the top of the unit, which take out heat from the inside of Marantz unit and problem so;ved. Hope this works for you.
How did you reset?
Hi Mark
I have SR6003 went on Standby, manual says reset is Surround Mode + Clear on page 77, however it's not reseting, the blink is just 1flash per second
Thank you for your help
@@thabizolomsimanga3645 For the slow blink you should be able to reset by simply unplugging the main power for a few seconds.
Mark. I'm India, Tamil nadu, my marentz sr5005 power on display no connection input no working how problem sir
Please try again to describe the problem. Not understanding.
So whats the rest code or function buttons u pressed??
I think it was Surround Mode - Exit - Clear.
Doesn't look like that's available. What's up, physical damage?
Sorry for the delay - it was a warranty job, no charge to the customer.
@BSF801132957 The only way I know of is keep an eye out on eBay for a used or broken one. I think it's a recent model, so a parts unit might not come up for a long time...
Hi,
Please help me to find power transformer model or part no for Marantz SR7011
You will just need to contact a Marantz parts distributor in your own country.
Seriously? Someone sends in his receiver for repair without first trying a reset?
Randy Levine I’m too nice I’ve helped people who are selling them as parts on eBay do this and that my friends is why I am poor.
Amp and power-supply related problems are so much easier!
thank u for the help i will look into it.
Mark Zacharias
Thanks for reply. When I turn it on, theres no click after several seconds. Display is working, you can browse setup menu, etc. I was even able to do reset to default settings and factory reset as well. I havent noticed if it was hot before, but now its just warm.
systematic12 First rule of troubleshooting - thou shalt check power supply voltages!
Mark Zacharias If I had a clue how to do that :) Thank you anyway. I will take this amp to the repair store again.
I can post here what was wrong.
stupid349 It tries to turn on by itself?
Thanks alot Mark for the help
What exactly do you mean by reset?
hi mark here again do you able to fix my Marantz sr9600 ? lmk please
I might be able to repair a 9600. What is the issue?
@mdzacharias The board is broken in half, with half missing (power switch and LED side) ... Not sure what happened to it from the previous owner but everything else seems to work just fine. Otherwise it is in mint condition... Do you know of anyone that may be able to track these boards down? There has to be someone out there willing to sell this part.
my sr6004 have problem with the hdmi pcb.i cant find anywere used.new one the price is.....540euro!!!!!!!!can somebody now if and where can I find second hand??
Probably the only option is to find used unit or simply replace the Marantz. Personally I favor Yamaha.
would have found it more useful if you'd shown us how to read set the unit
Read farther down in the comments.
@shogrran You have to start somewhere... Google "basic electronics" or "electronics fundamentals" and learn a bit about AC and DC electronics. Stay away from 120 volt primary stuff until you learn more. Good luck!
What buttons on a sr5200 trigger the hard reset?
There 's no published info, but on my old SR7200 (same series) you would hold down the A/D, F/P and Dimmer buttons while plugging the unit in. You would know it reset if the volume came on at -75db.

How can I reset marantz 5012 when power button blinks after short peroid
Sorry Marantz won't let me give out the resets on these - mz
how much did that cost the owner? :)
@catrineduardo21
Sorry, I no longer accept larger receivers on a mail-in basis.
