That risk might have cost Mike Elias because...with them being neck-and-neck with the Yankees, there probably was no reason Baltimore should make "safe" moves there. They have the prospects to deal right there, but...chose to keep them and got low-to-mid ceiling players at the trade deadline. The only guys they hit right were Eloy Jimenez and Seranthony Dominguez. But Gregory Soto and Trevor Rogers...both were massive mistakes. Soto has an ERA over 21 since joining Baltimore, and Rogers, an 0-2 record and an ERA of 7.53. Perhaps Baltimore fans would have wished they traded for Crochet/Skubal/Fedde instead of Rogers at the trade deadline because...Coby Mayo has struggled badly since being called up, and Jackson Holliday's been cooling down at a fast pace. In Jackson's last 5 games, he's 2-for-20 there, and this was after he was 8-for-17 last week. Orioles had so many chances to try and run away for the AL East title, but they just haven't been able to do that, no matter how many times the Yankees slumped and/or lost games at a rampant pace.
Spot on. That strikeout from Jackson with 2 runners in scoring position was killer! Injuries to this rotation are really holding the O' s back@@Hawkwing4567
He didn't want to go after a Skubal/Crochet/Flaherty without costing them one of their "prized" guys in their farm. This was a risk that perhaps wanted to preserve just in case Coby Mayo or Jackson Holliday ever came up to join them in the majors for reinforcements. They're on the active roster now...but Mayo has struggled since coming up in the majors. Meanwhile, Jackson's production has sort of dipped a bit lately, going 2-for-20 in his last 5 games. Did I forget to mention that Jackson's had more Ks (31) than he has hits (14)? But Coby Mayo...he has struggled since getting called up. You wonder if this is one of those times perhaps Mike Elias maybe should have perhaps made a mistake not getting aggressive at the trade deadline to make a game-changing trade that would have "pulled away" from the Yankees right there.
