THANK YOU BAZ LUHRMANN for the new ELVIS film. I missed seeing it in the theater and wish so much I could have seen it there with the stereo and all. I keep renting it from my cable company, it's just SO SPECTACULAR and as one who has witnessed ELVIS and his entire career from the 50's through the 70's, AUSTIN was indeed miraculous and carried the spirit of ELVIS all the way through the film.
From 5:10 on, it gets into an interesting discussion about the value of wanting to be a somebody, vs. being a nobody. Especially since you have someone like Baz who has a very distinct, unique voice in cinema, talking with an average Joe in the crowd whose notion of being a "somebody" means having people like him band together as one collective voice.
wow what a guy! now gonna watch ALL of his interviews long first, then short...such an amazing director...the spiritual touch in Australia was incredible..and of course everyone is bathed in wow from Gatsby and Romeo and Juliet... i could philosophies and debate whats the point of a writer/director, is it a secret guru that is enhancing consciousness of planet secretly thru hollywood.... ? idea of Baz doing music is (pun intended) a score! and imagine the music videos! CHRIST
THANKYOU OXFORD UNION FOR DOING THESE INTERVIEWS. THESE ARE AN AMAZING ESCAPE IN THE DAY TO WATCH WHILST WORKING...THEIR A BRAIN TEASER...A SOURCE OF KNOWLEDGE AND INFO...AND LITTLE FREE PRESENTS ON THE WEB WHILST RUclips IS STILL GOOD. WOW . THANKS.
Pleas Baz get somebody to do Elvis justice because to be honest I have never seen anybody to portray Elvis really well, when you get someone for the biopic please get someone special not a guy that talks like him but is a million miles away looking like him or having his charisma look up Ben Portsmouth I know his an impersonator but naturally looks like him just a suggestion or someone with something special not the crap I have seen in the past.
Hi Richard, just wanted to mention that maybe Baz saw your comment - or the aethers combined to bring your idea forward somehow 100th monkey style. They've had to fold & hold the production - taking place in Queensland AU - because of covid but.. How cool is it that Baz is indeed making the Elvis biopic you suggested a year ago.. Mayve been in the pipes for many years but you definitely called it lol 😊👍 Cheers & have a good day!
Thanks for your comment but I have wanted to see a proper take of Elvis been portrayed in a proper way I have seen so many real life people acted very badly some good of late Freddie Mercury was done well Elton John not so good but so many documentary about Elvis I remember kurt Russel taking on Elvis but it wasnt good his a good actor but it wasnt great, were in modern times I hope Baz did see my comment but great to go to cinema and say at last something that showed Elvis life in a reality form.I have been thinking about this for years as a movie fan.
Baz is amazing. Interviewer looked annoyed, almost as if she didn't want to be there. (I’m going to guess nepotism was involved in picking the moderator.)
He doesn't talk about his idea of film theory which would explain his style, or his influences after being asked how he developed his style. Just some vague stuff.
Horrible movie. Why don't you guys watch and Elvis video or documentary and then see by comparison how bad this movie really is. The acting is terrible except for Tom Hanks - the scenery is OK and times are depicted correctly - but the acting, man - really sucks!!!! And they left out Elvis' best songs - like My Way and his Gospel - which was part of him!!!Bummer!
totally agree with you... In fact i cant stand any of the knucklehead's films. All the characters in all fo his films are caricatures. They're all so cartoonish and so stereotyped! All his films are bling and glitz -- no substance at whatsoever!!

Baz Lurhmann thank you for making ELVIS it was a sensational movie. You are now my favorite director. 🙌

I feel sorry for poor John the “nobody”. He really dug himself a grave.
Baz is mesmerising in every way. He inspires me. The interviewer is so distracting though because she is so unengaged!
I think it might be hard to get a word in with Baz!
no it's cos he's weird

Strictly Ballroom, Romeo & Juliette, Moulin Rouge - all acts of genius.
And now, Elvis.
Don't forget, great gatsby!
Excellent
That glass of wine has got baz babbling on a bit 😂
Baz haz catz ya know... ;)
I love baz, but he is good at saying so much without saying nothing al all lol
Watch 29:40 first for a few seconds. The poor lamb has a cold coming on which has muddled his thinking.

I actually suggested an elvis movie previous to baz announcing movie wonder did he get the idea from me?anyway hope he makes a good job of it.
@@richardohalloran8329 I've seen Baz's Elvis...It's a complete disaster....
@@jason2666 I thought it was absolutely wonderful. Truly hypnotic.
Heron's Creek is not that isolated. It's on the main highway between Sydney and Brisbane.
how do i get half his energy???
Cocaine.
why doesn't he sound anything like he did in the sunscreen song? was it actually his voice in the recording?
It was Lee Perry.

oh shutup you sexist loser. baz is a bit like a toddler so it must have been confusing for her.
he fascinates me lol
Really wanted to listen to this but could only make it 15min in - tough going.
In what way was it "tough going", Emily?
Haha, I agree!
Remember ladies and gentleman, wear sunscreen!! ;)
i loved it. watched it twice
Emily Marsden well you’re a better woman than me. I got 4 mins in.
I don't know much about him, but has he had few drinks just before this maybe?
he sounds high
Being the only one in the crowd wanting to be nobody, automatically makes you somebody? :)
22:36/27:50/37:41
He makes great films, but he can't communicate his ideas at all.
he's a wild horse
Most of the great artists have that peculiar aspect - they're uncapable to put their ideas into words.
Tess D'Urberville I think sought out to be nobody but a quiet herself
❤️

i learnt a lot. watched it twice, now watching all his other interviews. he's a genius. i have ideas for him but he probs wont see this.
Hip Guy
