ABACAB is one of the few cassette albums I wore out in my ‘79 Camaro Berlinetta’s factory “not that great, but it’ll work” stereo system, and it probably was most worn on “Keep It Dark”, my absolute favorite cut from the album. On a lark, I figured I’d look for the 1981 live version at the LA Forum, when I came across Simon’s version (still can’t find the other!). This blew me away! I love it! Very imaginative rework of his Dad’s (and Mike’s and Tony’s) original.
OMG!! I just discovered that this guy is Phil Collins’ son and I’m freaking out lol! I’m getting tears in my eyes listening to this because Phil Collins is my favorite musician and Genesis is my favorite band, and I know this is a Genesis song and I’m totally amazed! Both Simon and Nicholas Collins have their dad’s super talent and they’ll keep their dad’s legacy alive forever!
I love you Phil Collins!!! FOREVER FOREVER FOREVER!!! 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶💖💖💖💖💖💖⚘️🌹⚘️🌹🙌🙌🙌💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
No, that’s Simon. He does have a very similar singing voice to his dad, just doesn’t quite have the range that Phil did in his prime, hence this version being in a slightly lower register than the original
Brilliant! Certainly outperforms the original, with improved musical arrangements. In a different level and at first sight Simon's face reminds me of M. Rutherford's at that age...😶🌫️
Omg love it! Genesis can continue on with Simon's voice and Nic's drumming not many bands if any could do this. if this was a thing for them to consider. I swear it was Phil singing.
Simon est très très bon à la batterie et au chant. La relève est assurée ! Merci ! Simon , prenez soin de vous et prenez bien soin de votre père aussi.
I am dense; I didn’t even guess by looking at him or seeing his name that he was the son of Phil. Great choice of song cover! Idk why because they have dozens of fantastic songs but this one is my favorite. I love the way it’s been covered here. Good job dude.
Where is there a commentary about the UFO experience and background of one of the band members who wrote this? Is a real experience, taken elsewhere, returned. This song. It's dark here.
Nic's already drumming for Genesis, why not let Simon take over vocals for Phil. I think it'd be cool to see Genesis continue with these two filling the roles of their father. If Phil doesn't want to keep doing it that is. lol
I think it may go a little deeper than that. Simon has always been his own person, so for him to just take his father’s role in genesis would diminish his accomplishments. Nic is already branching out starting his own musical projects, and is a great drummer as well.

@@squonk86 not disagreeing with the classic bit - his version is just different. I just listened to Phil and 'Ripples' too, chokes me every time. Very happy memories. Nice talking to a fellow fan Ron 👍
🤮 Simon made several efforts, and a lot of actually talented people tried to help him out...he is not even a Julian Lennon, musically. Best to let Nic carry on the legacy. This cover is a blight on the original and an obvious attempt to get attention. Why that bothers no one is beyond me. If Julian Lennon covered a Beatle song he would have been burned at the stake. Nic's got it covered Simon.
What a shitty comment. Simon did this years before Nic came along. If you have a problem with progeny doing the music their father's produced, then perhaps Nic should stop playing all the drum patterns and licks his dad came up with in his Genesis years and create his own. Nic's just riding on his dad's coattails as much as you accuse Simon of doing. And no, Nic doesn t have it covered. He's no where near the creative force Phil was at his age on drums. He lacks the attack and nuances in his playing that Phil had. Nic didn't create the parts he's playing, his dad did. He's just going through the motions copying something created decades ago by someone who didn't have the advantage of rhythmic blueprints at the ready. And that's the truth.
Got to answer this, I love this version from Simon, really attacking that bass line. Also seen Nic live with Genesis - he did his dad proud. To be perfectly honest, when you have Phil as a dad you will always be compared, but both of them have their own talents - lot to he said about genes. And personally I feel lucky that Collins & Sons lets me listen to current versions and remember my youth on the same evening. Keeps me happy, very happy ☺️

Talent doesn't drift too far from home. I love it Simon!!! A comforting voice and an awesome spin on this song. Great tribute.
Fantastic cover. Now that Phil is retired Genesis should hire both brothers. Done!
“Silent sorrows” in the intro.. tasteful. Great tribute !

Love the chorus in this song.....always envision Chester hammering that ride cymbal and driving the pulse forward.
Powerful new version. I like it. 😎😎
Dope tribute and the magic paid proper homage! I felt like a teenager again digging on this track!
Nice to hear a bit of 'Silent Sorrow In Empty Boats' from 'The Lamb...' at the beginning.
oh wow! Love this version too!
It was his daddy’s and I think it’s great he let Simon do the remake
What a lively tribute to his father

Yes, this is Phil Collins son. I can't make any exceptions. Keep the day job.
