Most definitely for sure from the first field goal when cedar town scored their touchdown the kicker barely got the field goal in. At my old high school we didn’t have kickers and the coaches always had to rely on the soccer players who also didn’t wanna play football
I have watched the replay of this game multiple times now. And after watching the four final plays of the game, especially in slow motion, two things become very obvious. First, the game announcers CLEARLY wanted Cedartown to win this game. The weren’t even remotely objective in their analysis. Second, when it came down to the final yard to determine the state championship, it was Cedartown that blinked. Especially their vaunted “studs.” I think they just didn’t want to get hit by the BC defense anymore and avoided making the hard blocks. At one point in the game, Rusty Mansell asked, “Are you willing to play in a phone booth to beat Cedartown?” For the final four plays of the game, with the state championship on the line, the answer was “YES” from BC and “NO” from Cedartown. Specifically, on 2nd and goal when Cedartown ran the QB keeper, Eli Barrow could have blocked the CB, opening up the edge, or blocked Wilkes Albert in the hole, allowing Reece to cut up directly for the end zone behind a blocker. Instead, he made very half hearted attempts on both and basically slid between them without hitting either one. Leaving Reece trapped with no where to go. Additionally, we had Glover and Quan Bryant coming from the backside as Harlem Diamond didn’t even try to make an effort to block either one of them and just watched them run past him. 3rd and goal was just a QB sneak and our line just wanted it more than their line did. Then came 4th down. If you watch closely, Diamond is on the right of the formation and is so slow off the snap that Quan blows right past him without being touched. Clearly he didn’t want to hit anybody. And Barrow is again lined up in the backfield as lead blocker for Gardner and again he just sprints past the BC defenders and into the end zone without hitting anyone. The only conclusion I can come to after watching this all in slow motion is Cedartown was worn out and just didn’t want to be hit by BC anymore and they were hoping someone else would make a play. Great job by the BC defense. This is a goal line stand that will go down in BC lore for ever.
What a ridiculous statement... Fantastic football game... Why don't you listen to the announcers after the game you putz.. Neither team was afraid to strike each other so don't act as if either ball club was worn out and gave up at any point... Do you think the kicking game my have had something to do with anything??? Moron...
@danielswift5808 your comment is a good example of a sore winner. I have no dog in this fight. I simply enjoy good H.S. football. Your coach made a horrific decision to fake that punt and your defense backed him out. Congrats to Benedictine but give Cedartown credit. Their D stuffed your highly touted QB and offense the entire 2nd half.
What a defensive stand at the end of the game.
Crazy stuff
So you mean to tell me no one on their team could kick a field goal from the one yard line to win the state championship.
