Big error on this folks. Sorry. Lou Reed’s debut isn’t Transfomer. Thanks Michael for pointing that out. Same year I think but Lou Reed was the debut. Thanks!
I've listened to that debut and it's got some of the guys from Yes of all people playing on it. It wasn't really an impressive debut and I think he would have rather that people forgot about it 😀
Hi Chris, loved this selection, big smiles when you mentioned Riot, Mahogany Rush and Moxy. I was wondering where Boston was and there, boom, rightfully number One. I would have Molly Hatchet in mine.
Hi Chris hope you are well another amazing video some of these I’ve never heard of but your enthusiasm about some of these means I’ll definitely be utubing a few of these . One glaring omission for me would be the tubes first album called the tubes not sure if it would fit in with this lot though . Hope you have a brilliant rest of your week and look forward to your next one STEVE
Chris, just watching this on my TV and I've come up with a great idea, you should have your own late night radio show for all us fans of great music,, I check out a lot of the stuff you talk about and I wonder how have I not heard of some of these artists, great stuff.
Great work Chris. I think I had 8! A few there I'm definitely looking for. Nice to see Ace Frehley in there, that is a fun LP. I've never heard any of his later albums though.
@@TheVinylOrchard It's an understandable mistake. The first Lou Reed album is largely forgotten now and is largely seen as a bit of a non-entry in his catalogue. It's got Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe on it ffs!
The Marshall Tucker Band album cover looks like the Boomtown Rats cover. You can’t go wrong with 70’s Cheap Trick. Though I graduated High School in 74 I’m not familiar with lots of these.
Perfect top 3. Literally perfect albums. The DJ at our 70´s Rock Club would always open with More Than a Feeling or Rock The Nation. Set the tone for the evening....
great top 40, some classic albums, i would have included meat loaf awesome rock album, i know you didnt have it but ZZ Tops first album would have been near the top for me, others i would include are REO speedwagon from 71 that rocks, bruce springsteen, survivor and pat benatar from 79, the runaways, edgar winter and jefferson starship to name a few, cant argue with boston at one and great to see Ace on your list love that album, cheers chris
Great variety of North American debuts from the '70s. I was going to ask you if you'd ever listened to Moxy and there they are in your best of. I probably mentioned that Heart played my high school in the mid 70s. Amazing live band especially close up. Do you remember a band named Angel? They were on the same label as Kiss and at first dressed all in white. Their debut album was pretty good, solid rock with a bit of a glam edge. Were you a fan of the Dead Boys? Their debut is pretty tight. Great to see so many Canadian bands make your lists, we had some good ones. Which reminds me, BTO's debut was pretty good too. Cheers
Never a fan of Angel. No one in U.K. really was. I have Young Loud and Snotty which is decent. BTO debut nearly made it but I find it plodding. Having said that Blue Collar is lovely jazzy song with a great solo.
AWESOME list, Chris! These would be my Top 10 (I’m including North American AND UK bands, though) 1. RAMONES 2. The Cars 3. The Clash 4. The Jam - In The City 5. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 6. The Police - Outlandos d’Amour 7. Gang of Four - Entertainment 8. Devo - Are We Not Men? 9. The Knack - Get The Knack 10. The Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks Just my opinion
Chris, some debut's that would be on my list (should I make one), would have been : Grand Funk - On Time / Spirit -Spirit / Chicago -Chicago Transit Authority.
the Molly Hatchet is probably the big one that is missing for me. Canadian bands Harlequin, Teaze and Red Rider all had great debut albums too. You mentioned Dust which is a decent album too.
Hi Chris, a bit late to the party, but a lot to take in. Just watched video and was about to say Transformer wasn't Lou Reed's debut. Some absolutely brilliant but for me L.A.M.F. is definitely one of my all time American albums, to be fair I prefer it more than the Ramones. Thanks again for another nostalgic look into my yoof! It's always nice when I hear people talk about some of the music I enjoy listening to.
Chris. Always enjoy your videos. Only problem is i try to stream albums you’re talking about but i can never get through one set before another video comes out. My bad i guess 😂. Does that make your record collection obscure? Out of interest have you ever bought an album because you liked the cover and the music turned out to be excellent? Conversely have you bought an album because you liked the cover and the album turned out to be pretty awful. Also I’m interested in knowing how often you manage to listen to your collection and what you system you play them on. Keep up with the great work. Always look forward to the next instalment.
@@ianseymour8218 sorry if the frequency is too much. Good feedback tbh. Will think about the cover thing. I’m sure there are some. I listen to quite a lot but there are some I haven’t listened to in years. I do the occasional video on that topic. I play them on an audio teachnica deck through a Cambridge audio amp and monitor audio floor speakers. Good old Richer Sounds! Thank you for your support Ian. Cheers, Chris
Excellent show here a few good ones for you to check out and it's southern rock bands that I totally dig it's the Allman Brothers band debut from 1969, Molly hatchet's 1978 debut this album has some excellent guitar work and Blackfoot no reservations from 1975 good old Rickey Medlocke on guitars and vocals and yes you're right a lot of bands and artist's you mentioned here did go on to way better things
@@TheVinylOrchard you're welcome and yes you're right the Allman Brothers was 1969 and if you were doing the 80s I would've included Billy Squiers 1980 debut the tale of the tape also the cars guitarist is Elliot Easton
Good choices, with a few notable absentees , Edgar Winter’s White trash, Rick Derringer’s All American boy and the absolutely stonking debut album by Stray Dog, I highly recommend that one if you haven’t heard it
wow, i waited with baited breath for number one and was very disappointed, not sure it would even make my top 40,one good song on it. the rest of the list was fine.Rush and television would top mine with Montrose third.

I forgot about it!
Great to be reminded of Riot & “Rock City”. Listening to that helped get me through my O Levels…
Great but short LP

Cheers Steve. I had Molly Hatchet as a reserve. I like their first Lp the best. Cheers

Good shout with the tubes. Got a copy many years ago from a charity shop but it is absolutely knackered. Must update it. Cheers Steve, chris
Thanks for the recommendation of Heart,s version of 'Stairway To Heaven', Chris, very powerful.
Incredible version. Cheers Nick
The debut album from New England released in 1979 is worth checking out. Produced by Paul Stanley and Mike Stone (Queen/Journey)
That was in there Malcolm! Cheers, Chris

Thanks James. Cocked up with Lou Reed. Transfomer is his second Lp! Cheers, Chris
I'm always doing that. I once did a video on great opening tracks to albums, and picked the second song on Peter Gabriel's debut.
@jamesgriffithsmusic I should research rather then guess I suppose.

Rock the Nation. Perfect opener for a Show I think. Brilliant track. Cheers my friend, Chris
A lot of these I bought pre punk! Some stunners amongst them! In 1976 Heart and Boston did it for me! Then Punk in 76!! Great video Chris! 👍
