Don’t let Mark’s modesty fool you. Dude-man nailed the Have A Blast solo live, I’m talking note for note. When I saw them with Safety Fire, Protest the Hero, and Jeff Loomis; I was initially disappointed Jeff didn’t join them for the Race Car Solo. However, seeing Jake kill it was just as cool.
Mark was also still being humble after the show. Had a small chat, signed my vinyl, got a hug, pretty cool dude.
I went to this tour in 2013
@@ChrisTarpleyAsylumOfCerberus I still have the poster from this exact tour, I remember them opening with Zyglrox or a New Groove. I also loved how at the time they played Totla Mad and would have it flow directly into Frak The Gods like 1 big song. Good times
pretty cool dude… aside from that whole yvette shitshow…
That tour was amazing.
Facts! I saw this same tour and was surprised he played it perfectly, I was stoked
I would kill for a Devin Townsend solo on a Periphery song.
He sang on a Haunted Shores track! (Mark & Misha's side project)
@@XAVR_ No way! I’ll have to listen to that.
@@XAVR_ which?
@@speeddemonji9547 Feed The Wolf / Noway Jose
@@XAVR_ gracías
Devin vibing over a Periphery record is just everything I’ve ever wanted.
Why would you want him in a pop album?
@@Quinceps a solid amount of Devin's work is just as poppy as Periphery, if not more so.
he's being humble Mark Holcomb could pull off any solo, one of my favorite musicians
any guitar player can. but then you factor in.. how much time is this going to take to be able to hit it perfectly, in a live setting, without making myself look foolish? and that can sometimes take some time lol. things arent as always as they seem, even for the best of us. we all are continuously learning. and I can assure you, when you try to learn a ripper from a dude like Guthrie.. you're probably gonna get stalled quite a bit, and learn in the process. and make no mistake Mark is a fantastic player, i dont mean to take anything from him. but i think theres probably truth to what hes saying.. did it stall him up for 10 years? no.. but when you're getting ready for a tour and you're like oh wait.. we cant play that.. it might take a month to get it down rock solid, to be able to perform live.
Can't help but smile whenever I see Devin being appreciated as the amazing musician he is.
That solo from Miles Zero by Wes everytime I listen to it, i struggle to fight back the tears. The song is so powerful to someone who could relate, and made even more powerful by that legendary solo (criminally underrated).
Mark is such a cool guy. seems very humble. love him!
I used to look up to him until about 4 years ago when I came across a post in Djent Shitposting.
Yeahhhh, unfortunately it’s hard to look up to dudes you don’t really know. He’s an immense musician, but then there’s that shitty thing he did.
Mark better have tried to redeem himself since that incident with his wife
All the bonus points for the Devin shoutout. He would have definitely added an incredible flavor to the album.
Jake destroyed the Jeff Loomis solo in Racecar I know mans can play anything he wants 😂 also the new Everything is Fine solo reminds me so much of Wes. Killer stuff
Send me the link dude
I remember!!! I saw them live in Cali and Jake Bowen killed the race car solo!!! He can definitely pull these off
Wes Hauchs solo on Mile Zero is so juicy though!!
Commented about it before reading your comment. That solo fits the song context 100%
@@gordonchristophertubo3164 now that jake has a 27 fret he has more of an opportunity to play it live as well
And mark wrote the best solo on the record, wax wings!
Well, John Petrucci did a guest solo on Erised. Jake's uncle :)
i feel like no one knows this, doing a cover of it tomorrow (hopefully😅). one of the best solos ever
Came to say the same
My brain is kind of running wild imagining a Periphery cover of Strapping Young Lad's "Skeksis", that was my intro to Devin, and just *_holy shit, man._*
I would LOVE if Devin came and was a part of a Periphery song. That mashup would be beautiful ❤️
Wow.. and Periphery / Devin are my two faves as well 🤩 got taken back for a minute the
Devin Townsend is the best. Would love to hear him on a periphery song
WE NEED DEVIN ON A PERIPHERY TRACK
Well, they got Devin for their latest Haunted Shores release. God, I wish we will get more Haunted Shores and with vocals next time. Those albums are just the best. So sad that the older stuff isn't on Spotify.
Woooooaaahhh! Yes!! Seen Townsend last July (animals as leaders and dream theater)
You guys would make sweet sweet music love!!!
Holcomb is badass!!!!!!! One of the best! And so humble
Vocally I want a Courtney Laplante guest spot.
😂
YES
I’d rather hear Jesse cash.
I really doubt that her flowy, ethereal voice fits into Periphery's more groovy vibe. She could've been easily be on Dying Star as a feat tho
Alluvial is such an underrated band
Love Periphery so much. Misha, Mark, Matt, Jake, and Spencer are my heroes. And Alex Getgood for Zero 😅
Thanks for your recommendations!
Forget the guitar solo, get some devin vocals on there! Hearing spencer and devin screaming and singing together on a song would be epic!
I love Mrak so much. Big up to my man.
Mark is humbled by someone like Guthrie an improvisation God
I remember listening to Reptile for the first time and actually thought it was Wes Hauch that played the solo (I've been listening to Alluvial at the time and thought the soloing style was the same)
Legendary. Point blank
Guthrie definitely improved that solo on Having a Blast.
Periphery has an explosive range of talent❤
Yooooooo........ If Devon was in a periphery song I would lose it.
Not really Periphery but Devin did vocals for Haunted Shores on the song Feed The Wolf.
The humility is beautiful😂
Dude Jake, Mark, and/or Misha could play just about anything at this point. They're all mega fucking good.
Davin was the first person to come to my mind too.
It would be awesome
I really love the humility behind the answer of “the reason we didn’t keep the Guthrie Govan solo was because… none of us could play it” Lolol
This is actually so inspiring. Lol
Hearing some of the best players alive talk about how much they like other players just warms the heart.
Salute this man 🫡🫡
Great to see Maya Rudolph exploring her djent aspirations ❤
Hauch!!!! Massively underrated player.
I'd love Devin Townsend as a guest holy crap!!! He'd probably do it too lol.
Heavy Devy!! Yes!!
Ow woouuuyyy!!
You look like my Social media mentor David Goggins!!! 💪🔥
Is this david goggins in another universe
I can't play for shit that Jeff Loomis solo from Racecar 😭
Sad. I even had the boys in the band talk on IG tongue in cheek about Rick Beato as a guest. Even Matt liked it
YES OH MY GOD IHSAHN!!! THAT WOULD BE SO INCREDIBLE, NOBODY EVER EVEN SHOUTS THIS DUDE OUT
Funny because Devin Townsend's vocals are also probably one the few that are in the realm of spencer sotelo
They can all play all of those solos; all of these big prog guitar names can handle basically anything on any record
Ihsahn!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🖤🖤
Understandable. If you get so much hype with a feature, you'll always be in the shadow of that feature. Biggest example that comes to mind was while she sleeps, when their song with oli Sykes dropped everybody went crazy, but capitalization on that hype and gaining longevity because of it never happened. People only care about the feature and hop on the next thing
I hope musicians don't think like you do. "I don't want the guest spot cause he might do better than us" is some Kayne West type thinking that doesn't belong in this side of music.
Devin 1000 is cool!
Man I want to see Devin and Periphery work together
Devin would have been awesome!
David goggins with hair?
first time I saw periphery, john browne was playing guitar
I think Rabea Massaad would be a nasty addition 🤔
Mile zero is my favourite solo ever
completely random but i wanna hear will swan on a periphery record
And you need 27 frets for Wes' solo.
Pilopinos hab souls like mark 🙏
But mrak.... You're my favorite guitarist you're just as talented as these guys. The riffs you write regularly are better than their best stuff imo
And John Petrucci
P2 is when I got into Periphery, and I knew when that solo from Erised hit it sounded very Petrucci-esque. Then I found out it was actually him and I'm like "well shucks dang". 😂
Fredrik himself
They are too modest!
No band is better then periphery 💯
Some Steph Carpenter chuggs would fit right in.
Been a minute since I’ve seen him tout his marriage on social media. Must be out of the hot water he landed in cheating on his wife for six months with a woman who he told that he was divorced or going through one.
...and then Mark nails Guthrie's solo live, no prob.
to be fair, it's definitely one of the easiest guthrie solos ever. Mark is very talented, but guthrie govan, jason richardson, tim henson, ichika, etc. are just different breeds.
@@WithBeautyAndWithLoveIchika is so insane man. Love that guy
well, you can just play your own solo in live
IHSASHN
I mean they already have petrucci on P2 sooo...
They could always still make the song. Just never play it live like polyphia 😂
They can’t even play their own solos live. sweep pattern in middle of Atropos is just synth playback now.
Apparently it always was
Mark actually did managed to do the solo one night live last tour.
But In any case: it was always synth playback lol
Sorry but that isn't even true lol I can see how they'd have difficulty but they've always pulled it off
messi
Those aren't hard solos, especially considering what periphery themselves put out
If you do get Devin Townsend just make sure not to make him aware that you like video games because he famously talked about how much he doesn't like video games and how video games feels like work to him. So yeah y'all are a bunch of gamers so don't mention any video games around. Devin. Brother man's been through a war to feel that way about video games.
