  • A walk To Cranstackie. In The Northwest highlands scotland assynt,sutherland.onclear days quinag,arkle,ben stac,stac polliadh,cul,canisp,ben more assynt,conival, can be seen with great walking and views.
    Cranstackie height is 801 metres.

A great day out to video arkle and surrounding mountains with loch stach and ben stack photos. Start the Arkle walk/hiking route path in Sutherland at the river car park off A838 1 mile north of Achfary.(The distance is 11miles to arkle trig point) The easiest route is easy to find between Lairg and Laxford Bridge off the main road A838. The easiest route, way or path to arkle mountain walk summit is the track that leads up to Meall Aonghais and is a easy path to follow.The walk isnt a long distance just 15 kilometres approximately so it can be easily completed in a day. The start of the walk is mainly from loch stack a track leads to the loch and the views of ben stack behind you are magnificent.Tge walking route or path to ben stack starts at the same car park but spaces are limited.The car park is free of charge.The walk is 11 miles approximately and tough on boots with quartz type rock.The path passers the beautiful Allt Horn gorge on the wayThe views of arkle summit to Foinaven (Foinne Bhein)-Ganu Mor are fantastic and further in the distance Cranstackie and Beinn Spionnaidh can be seen on a clear day.winter belay for Scotland's mountain's.

    It’s a brilliant mountain and quite a tricky one. Dynamic weather with some great views. Definitely warrants another trip. Love the video.

    Another moody one Alan and you can't beat a bit of rock hopping. A true sense of the reality of hill walking in Scotland in this one bud, wild , pathless and tough going. Great stuff thanks for sharing. Mick.

      Thankyou for kind words 🤣 Always appreciated.. Cranstackie was a unusual mountain, very rocky (boulders) and tough on the boots🤣🤣.     Alan, agree with trying different approaches to see a hill in a new light. That was seriously rocky plateau. Loved your aerial shots, giving another perspective of the terrain. I really like your spilling and sliding descent style ;-) Quite an adventure :-)

    A better route is from the Bridge over the Dionard at the head of the Kyle, up on to the shoulder of Beinn Spionnaidh and then over to Cranstackie. Go back down through the scree at Rhigoulter farm (past the remains of the Mosquito) and then back along the river to the fanks at big bridge (as we locals call it).
