And, surprisingly, it works very well on solo piano, although there is (almost) no acoustic piano in the original studio-recording! But the harmonies are so inventive and lovely, the rhythms and mood and melody so eerie and passionate at the same time, it just works great in a solo piano version. I'm so glad you also like my version of this beautiful Michael Jackson song...I remember very well that I heard it for the first time and I was immediately in love with it, and I soon tried to copy the feel and rhythm of the song. Also a beautiful rainy and sober video, which captured the mood of the song so well. Despite there is almost no piano in it, the song still sounds really wonderful on a grand piano, mainly because of the very nice harmonies, I think. Greetings!

Dankjewel! Prachtig liedje. En het klinkt wonderwel op piano erg goed.
Ja, het is zoals ik het hier speel geheel op gehoor nagespeeld, en dus mijn eigen "arrangement". Maar veel werk is dat niet hoor; wat ik hieronder bij anderen al schreef; het zijn in feite maar een paar akkoorden en die worden steeds maar herhaald. Het geraffineerde ritme en de subtiele groove tussen de beide handen jofel en correct en smooth verdelen is wat het "lastig" maakt...maar ook daar; alles is betrekkelijk :-) neem een willekeurig stuk van Bach, Chopin, Schubert, Mozart, Liszt, Beethoven, of whoever you name, en 't is meestal oneindig veel meer werk en veel moeilijker.
Beautifully done, is the modulation occurring at the point where it goes “how does it feel”? I do wish the sound quality was better, it deserves to be for such beautiful playing x

Simonvanthoff wonderful work honestly. I’m writing my first Album and I often play this piece to create a sense of inspiration. Michael was so skilled at creating multiple layers of emotion all at once. This piece is so sad because he wrote it in his hotel room in Moscow feeling exiled after all the attacks from the media. He also didn’t feel welcome in Moscow either and at the end of the song you can hear a KGB agent say “why have you come from the west to steal the secrets of the hard working people? Talk”. His ideas were boundless. Hello from London :)

Yes, Michael was indeed extremely gifted. His passion for love, life and music you can hear in every word he sang. And also as you mentioned his extreme unimaginable loneliness which he so immaculate articulated in this wonderful introvert song. I loved it immediately back in the days on first listen. The wonderful sequence of that first four chords, so unusual, and the wonderful beatbox, the subtle strings, his amazing voice. I tried to captured it immediaty on my piano, which, surprisingly for a totally non-piano song, worked extremely well. Only finding that subtle groove was a bit tricky, to devide the wonderful rhytmn between my two hands. Hope to play once another of his songs, here on RUclips, but it's not easy to find a song that works also well on just a solo piano. Take care, Greetings from Simon
Simonvanthoff Hi Simon. Thank you, it’s a lot of work alone but it’s really coming together now.
It makes sense the piece works on piano as it was originally written by Brad Buxer with Michael together in the Moscow hotel room. You do it very well. It’s a shame because few know just how much knowledge Michael had of different artists, poets, movements, painters, he was truly a renaissance type character. Everything had meaning for him.
I’d love to hear more MJ piano pieces from you. Suggestions would be- Another Part of Me (as a kind of Jazz lounge piece), Liberian Girl would work very well, Give in To Me would work well too.
Do you write your own pieces at all? The stuff I have written on here is very old, about ten years old and nothing like my work of now- which heavily uses 80s synthesisers amongst other things.
Lara8 Thank you Lara. You mean, you haven't written music now for 8 years, if I understand correctly seeing the 8 yr absence of material on your channel?
I myself am totally not into synths related stuff and keyboards, really an old fashioned akoustic pianist you're talking to here ;-) so besides the obvious conclusion that you are a very lovely & very attractive girl (assuming it's indeed you on the thumbnail :-) I cannot really say something intelligently about it's musical content....I would catechorize what I hear on one of your vids as "electronic dance music"? Correct me if I'm wrong :-).
You mentioned some wonderful options by the way: for example Give In To Me is a top notch Michael song for me, but quite hard to play reasonably well and artistically interesting on just an acoustic piano, I think. I just looked at one of the playlist vids of you, where you have a very good synths version of it! Wonderful! Who knows I will try. Earth Song is also an all time favourite, but also very hard to keep it interesting all the way through when played on solo piano. Kind regards from Simon !

Thank you for your nice comment! As you can see in my other comments I do not have a score...I play it all by ear. But, as I said elsewhere, the chords are really simple, the difficulty lies in the soothing rhythm you must divide efficiently and ellegantly between the two hands.

Ian Cunha Yes. But trust me, it is a very simple chord scheme (I - VII eol - III eol - IV7) repeated all the time. The difficulty is, as I said in other comments, to devide the subtle groove between your two hands.

Hello,
there are no sheets, I play this by ear. But don't worry, the chords are not really that hard: Eb, Db, Gb, Ab7, for the 'refrain', Emaj7, A, Dmaj7, G for the 'couplet'. The hard part is to get the percussion/drums-feel correctly divided between the two hands.
