@@amadeusvonfrancois thank you! Yes it's (relatively speaking) not a difficult sonata. The difficulty with pieces like this, filming yourself for a take on RUclips, is of course to make no ugly mistakes, no ugly slips, or ugly wrong pedal moves, or ugly tempo /timing mistakes, or ugly toucher mistakes. That's what's making a take like this so enormous difficult, as we all know, every one who tries to record him of herself knows what I'm talking about. Especially when you record a somewhat longer piece like this. Then the challenge is, of course, bigger. And with technically more challenging pieces even way more bigger, of course. And record in a very very dry room, with no reverb at àll, on a simple modest piano, is not making it easier 😅. That distracting thing is a so called "Swinging Sticks" 😅🥹, you can easily google them. I always try to make some kind of or nice looking 'entourage' so to speak, with my modest home-movies, and as you maybe could have already seen on my channel: I have a lòt of these items :-) so, I thought, with this very slow and long piece, I film one of them, a hypnotic one, in this upload, near the piano. :-) Kind regards, thanks for your nice comment, greetings from the Netherlands, Simon 🎹

@@CoxYThingZ I have >350 uploads here ☺️ so much still to see and hear ! 😅 but, only a handful are done on my small harpsichord, because as you can see I'm a pianist mainly, and not a harpsichord player. All kind of genres I play as a pianist: pop, jazzy, classical, romantic, bluesy, swing. The air you mention I do know, of course, and tried that one on a piano, so: in a piano solo version, but I was not satisfied yet. So that one I don't have yet recorded on RUclips, but it's such a well known piece, that you can find it countless other times with other players. Thank you for your nice comment ! It's indeed a beautiful song. Complex, but still sounding so natural, so organic and logical. I always admired the short but so effective and super catchy piano solo in it: that part many players skip or forget or something,..so I worked especially for fitting that one in exactly as it is in the wonderful original studio recording. Nice! 🎹👍🏻 But my personal advise stille would be, gathered from own experience :) Use your ears, and use your analytical & technical prowess. Thus make your own version of it, like I do here: you will get almost by definition a more personal take (both technically and musically), and besides that, also by definition: it will always suit your own style better 🎹👌🏻. Sung in a very rubato way, by Don McLean...I never noticed that, listening to it superficially, but now, for this take, listening way more closely, I noticed it. His vocal is impossible to copy, melodic and rhythmically, really great phrasing and timing ! Kind regards, Simon 🎹

@@simonvanthoff There is beautiful version of this song that was recorded in the 70s by Jane Oliver. Jane Oliver also recorded Some Enchanted Evening and sings with genuine feeling. I recommend listening to both recordings if you can find them. When she recorded Some Enchanted Evening in the late 70s it was all the rage for about a year.

Thank you! I didnt know the piece as well. I just practiced it, it's rather easy, and without looking to other players, so, I now notice I play it very slowly. Still, I think it works also in this slow way. It's most difficult to control your touch. I was reasonably satisfied, it's in my classroom, and I wanted to do more takes, to even better it, but a saxophone started practicing besides me, so I could not make another take. Still, it's rare oke like this. I really use the akoestics of the room (no furniture at all) instead of the VERY dry room in my own place. But, who knows, I will once try it also on my Pleyel, but I am rather sure it will not work then, like here in this take. So, sound, and legato and touch and balance are the most important things to control but it's not a hard piece to play I think. But of course you need some poetry in your touch. @@simonvanthoff I like the tempo you chose, it feels appropriate and allows a soft natural majesty as accompaniment. I know this Prelude is not technically challenging to play but balancing the tone levels in each hand is an art that requires constant attention; even one note in the bass that's a shade too loud can sound like a disaster.
