I just can't understand how these companies see the film grain as the enemy. I'd rather see the footage as original as possible rather than these filtered edits. I just want the best possible quality in it's most original form, how it can be so hard?
I'm with you and I just don't understand either.
FUNimation insists on presenting a 40 year old franchise as a new product. With Kai, that should’ve been the product for that market so there’s no reason to scrub the shit out of the original Z.

I am picking up the steelbooks to replace my orange bricks this probably the closest we are going to get to a perfect set.

The box looks great at the very least! I never upgraded from my blue and orange bricks. I have a lot of love for Dragon Ball. Thanks for the review, this was actually the first time I saw someone show how the discs were in those books for this release.

The Dragon Boxes.
The dragon box's colors are way off. Blue skies look green. It only has Japanese music and it's a low quality audio at that. Only get the Dragon Box if you can live with those flaws.

Should I get the steelbook set, or wait until the next remaster? Not in a rush
In my opinion, I'll wait for the inevitable remaster. But I'm not sure when will it happen but hopefully soon. But if you don't want to wait that long, I'd say get the steelbook set. I think the Remaster will come out in 2024.

Funimation isn't interested in doing another remaster. This remaster had to be crowdfunded in order to get made. Although, I suppose there is hope that they will do a 4K remaster whenever that becomes the standard for TV.

Question anyone received some of the disc scratched? I hear this is very common on this set and set from super the scratches can only be seen under a lamp and at angles so they are feint/light but still there =/
I have received some scratches on a couple of discs from this set sadly.

Great review. Funimation is releasing that same transfer in steelbook season sets. Honestly my Dragon Boxes the crown jewel of my collection, they’re exactly what suits me, it’s as close as the show is supposed to be, original opening and ending songs and credits and next episode previews, the grain is perfect, the colors are aged only slightly off imo, the art, packaging, the dragon book that comes with it, and I only paid $250 for the entire show.(I bought them new $34 a piece in store back when they were still in print.
If Toei would release DBZ in 4k, it better have grain.
I 3000% agree and awesome that you own the Dragon Boxes!!! I'm stuck with this lol. Yeah and I saw the steelbooks and well...hopefully those rumored 4K transfers will replace what we have. Here's hoping that Toei releases it soon lol.
I'm sorry I just got my blu ray boxset I'm done buy dragon ball lol 😆 . Now it's collector's item because I got like a couple of signatures that cast on it

Which is better blu rays sets or 30 anniversary set they look different little bit? In hd quality
I'd say the 30th Anniversary. The Season sets are cropped to widescreen and that is not how the show is supposed to look. Although I don't like the 30th anniversary Set, it is still the best we got. The BEST SETS are the Dragon Boxes. Funimation is releasing the 30th Anniversary as 9 SEASON STEELBOOKS this year and next. So if you want them, pick them up lol. Hope this helped! :)

Oh my bad lol. Short answer is yes lol.
Still uses DNR and fake grain, but the aspect ratio is correct.
Also, due to to it not being cropped(30th anniversary sets), the image does look clearer and sharper than the season sets.

Yeah it's disappointing. But it IS the best we got right now since the superior DRAGON BOXES are out of print and hella expensive.
Dragon ball z is the most overrated and overhyped anime of all time. It’s only beefcake men screaming and fighting. There is way better anime out there like one punch man and demon slayer. Saitama and Ryuk can both beat Goku. You sound very entitled and should have known something was sus when a big company like Funimation was asking for funding on a collection set. But I guess that’s just the typical dragon ball fanboy for you.
