@It’s just Remo what?
@It’s just Remo ew
Thank you I will enjoy because I love pokemon way to much!
Crystal: make the animation short but unique.
Emerald: Pokemon go up, then side side :0
It's also a difference of number of sprites and animation.
Crystal uses a lot of different sprites, you can even see transition ones like half opened eyes and such.
Emerald uses two sprites per pokemon and then animates it with left right up down and squish and squash movement.
emerald’s, to me, are more impressive and “”better”” than crystals because they are able to show so much personality in two frames and some movement, while crystal had just regular, sometimes painful to look at, animations.
@@splogxyz3339 - There's more "personality" in two alternating frames and a squishing movement, compared to an animation where the Pokémon actually moves, blinks and tries to look menacing or something?
@@splogxyz3339 same
@@mokarokas-213817 dumbs
I think the issue with emerald is that they used sprite scaling too much, a lot of them look as if they didnt bother doing anything they just made the sprite appear to be doing things.
Although Gen 2 is my favorite gen (besides Gen 4),I must say each version is good in different ways.
The Crystal version gives a sensation that are actual animals, while the Emerald version gives them more Personality.
I feel like Emerald Version is TRYING to take my attention with too much movimient, but even so I can't stop watching Crystal version, those animations are WAY BETTER!!
Crystal had proper sprite animations. While Emerald just has 2 frames that bounce for a bit.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love/hate how it went from the nice animations in Crystal to "second sprite, move, done" in Emerald
One thing I noticed is the crystal animations are much longer than emeralds for the most part and show off more character and are more unique so I prefer them over emeralds
however there are some emerald animations are in think are cooler than crystals like pigeots
I'm surprised. There are some exceptions, but in general I like Crystal's more.
The difference likely comes from the gbc vs gba. The sprites in Crystal were broken down into 8x8 or 16x16 tiles aligned to appear as one big sprite, it would have likely cost too much memory to animate a whole giant sprite at once. Moving some sections but not others kept the illusion the whole sprite was animated.
GBA could have much larger sprites, but with more Pokémon and fancy sprite scaling, it was probably easier to make two sprites that it would switch between with scale/rotation/color effects instead of a whole animation of the same length. Also, having the number of frames consistent was probably nice from a coding standpoint. So yeah, both techniques cheated their systems a little
It's easier to use sprite scaling, transforms, and misc effects than making multiple frames of animations for so much more detailed sprites. They could've done a similar breakdown trick in GBA, but there's more colors to keep track of in the GBA games.

Weedle sprite in crystal is so cute
the blastoise face in Pokémon emerald looks like that of a maniac xdxdxdxdxd
Very interesting how you don't see all of ninetales' tales in the emerald sprite (2:18)
Favourite sprite: tyranitar
Favourite animation: pidgeot
This might be a really tough one: Pokemon walking sprites
I don't think its gonna be hard, just use cheats to get every pokemon in HGSS then tske several clips of them walking with you..
you wanna see the OG furret walcc?
Binod
@@sanjithn4604 oh no you know it
Crystal 1000000% better movement sprites than emerald
There's a reason for that
Its because crystal sprites have more frames
And emerald just has rotations
@@guywithgrasspfp this was like 1 year ago how did you find this
@@whatdoiputhereman yes
Crystal’s animations were way better, Emerald’s for the most part were them just plopping around.
Even though I disagree with you, crystal's sprite were more simple and good
yeah we need a hoenn pokemon in pokemon crystal mod
@@yeeyt464 What about deleting kanto
I'm on the same vote. I found the animation sprite in Crystal much more intriguing than Emerald.
Nothing against Gen. 3's animation sprite. But something about it feels so disturbing & flat about there animation movements.
@@yeeyt464 - Why are you talking like you have any idea WHAT you're talking about? That's not even close to how it works, not to mention the time between the releases of GBA and R/S. :D
I remember randomizing Pokemon Leafgreen and having a Tyranitar and by cinnabar i had the moveset of crunch, rockslide, thrash, and surf. Then at the league i taught surf to my randomized zapdos(latios) and had earthquake
2:23 : 🥺
👉👈 is for me? (Crystal)
2:25 : OwO (Emerald)
QOTD: hitmonlee and scizor’s crystal animations
Pikachu in Gen 2 has Different Sprites for all three versions
Gold pikachu is Depicted as dumping in the air with its arms left Foot high
Silver Pikachu is Depicted as Holding its tummy
Crystal Pikachu is Depicted as Stretching its Arms out
Pikachus Gen 3 sprite is similar to that of the gold sprite and Ironically its used in every Single Version in that generation with very Little Changes aside from Emerald Giving it brief Movement.
To be perfectly honest, I actually liked Crystal's animation sprite more than Emerald.
Crystal's feels alot more animation & Pokemon cooming out alive. While Emerald's looks both disturbing & flat out pixelated that they were just plopping and it's silly to looked at.
I really love the Crystal animations way more than the Emerald ones, and one thing I noticed when you said that they feel more alive in Crystal, it's the fact that they all blink, while in Emerald all of them look so mechanical and static, even if there's more movement in their appearance than in Crystal.
@@okamisakuraba002 yea see this might be the reason why they added animated pixel sprites in gen 5.
Yeah i prefer crystal, but gamefreak had to make the animations a bit weird in gen 3, cause sprites are more better and more pokémon, so animating every pokémon frame by frame will not be great :)
Crystal is ma first game, those animation is way better than those 3D model tbh ima sorry hahaha
Crystal is better.
Yesss we stan crystal!!
Animations are so cool.
Yes
QOTD: Ditto's emerald sprite, there is nothing special in it except for the fact it is literally bongo cat
Looks like sandshrew gives the middle finger to whoever is behind it in pokemon emerald at 01:38.
Oh crystal oddish is real cute
the backround music makes me miss pokemon emrald
Which is weird, because the music is all from Gold/Silver/Crystal and their remakes.
Just a simple reminder that the Gen 3 games before emerald were soulless without the Sprite animations
honestly, the emerald sprite animations are so bad, that no animations is better
I like these animations more than gen 4
I have a question
Why is SENTRET and NOCTOWL is yellow in the GBA games
Ruby, Sapphire, Firered, Leafgreen, and Emerald
9:54 & 10:04
My guy never heard of a shiny
When I first saw the Emerald sprites, I thought that they were frame 1 for full animations like Crystal
Porygon is going to make people go to the hospital with the crystal sprite 💀💀💀 can’t believe that this Pokémon got blamed for causing seizures but it was Pikachu 8:25
i want to see a fr/lg and emerald sprites comparison
The thing that the new animation misses is
The eyes
Edit: HITMONCHAN wears Pink clothes in Crystal

I feel that RSE sprites were weirdly made, like not following the official artwork that well and instead making odd choices on proportions and shapes. FRLG kinda tried to actually being more faithful to sugimori's work for gen 3 Kanto but with some of them still being really off like Tauros. Meanwhile I feel that 90% of crystal sprites were made straight out from official artwork. Wouldn't say that's bad tho, RSE feels quite unique thanks to that.
Now the emerald animation...I really appreciate how for some pokemon they actually went as far as making a completely different second sprite for the movement but I just dont get why they stretch and expand so chaotically it doesnt really feels like natural movement unlike Crystal were pokemon just move as they would naturally move lol
Does it seem impractical to you to have animated sprites for 386 Pokémon like in Gen. 2? Because I think it would be.
I wonder why the animation dropped when Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire was out
i remember asking someone about that and i can't for the life of me remember the reason they gave as to why animations were temporarily dropped. i *know* there was a reason though (albeit a probably not very good one)
Idk, they had better devices to work on them, so weird
The same as always. Bite more than you can chew without upping the production levels.
People act like sword and shield are the first games to fuck up everything before them, but Ruby and sapphire were the first... The thing is that they were great in so many other aspects that people didn't care that much, except the ones who stopped playing lol. Main reason there's so many gen1 and 2 people older than 30 who hate 3 onward.
Come on, no night and day, no c gear, no animations, no pokemon transfer from previous titles, impossible events depending on where you lived, unobtainable pokemon without 3rd game or supplement games for gamecube
On the other hand we have great additions, like a better map, more colours and great map navigation systems. Surf was quick, multiple bikes, great soundtrack, tons of new Pokemon, great PC system and menus, attack animations were way better, no waiting between routes (everything was interconnected, they dropped that in gen 4, and we haven't seen this since), characters were kinda good, battle backgrounds and battle start animations were great and so on. Not talking about emerald additions tho
@@AsecasJavi nope it’s been a shit show since the first games. For being such a popular franchise you think they’d have better quality
crystal animated sprites are far better than current 3D models. Doesn't matter when you read this
i cant be the only one who thinks a lot of gen 3s sprites seem a little off model for certain pokemon
Imo, the Crystal animations for the sprites will forever be some of the coolest things in the franchise, along with the gen 5 ones.
I like the more simpler color palette of Crystal, the pokemons look more creepy and mysterious.
Bring back fat pikachu and raichu!!
Emerald animations make my eyes hurt lol when zoomed like this
QOTD:
Crystal: Raichu
Emerald: Pidgeot
I don't know why, but this made me cry.
For all the people that think the emerald animations are bad, screw you, it's not that the crystal sprites are bad don't get me wrong (i mean, come on, sandslash?) But the emerald ones are actually expressive and at least in emerald the animation isn't based entirely on one body part, venomoth is actually moving whilst flapping it's wings, digglet actually digs, meowth is moving around vibrantly, haunter looks evil, chansey is jumping, snorlax is...snoring, you get what im saying, the gen 3 sprites have a tonna character. (Holy shit i was not expecting this comment to be this long)
In new 3d games they improved the graphics and Pokemon models, but the Pokemon's just looks like dead in those games. 2d animation and crystal sprites are too good. They should focus on making new 2d games with improved technology 😊
Yeah a big glow up
Sword and shield: I dont have any animation at all
First
Nice!!!...
9:49
Crystal: based
Emerald: Stretch armstrong & dancing
The sprites for firered and leaf green were by far better than emeralds on the kanto side of Pokémon
Better Sprites: Emerald
Better Animation: Crystal
That’s the change of 4 years (2000-2004) which is heavily noticeable and significant, showing the progress from the game boy generation to the DS generation - now look at the change in animation from X and Y (2013) to the present Sword and Shield (2019) - literally NONE besides polishing on the models, even though the jump was much greater from the 3DS (a handheld) to the most powerful Nintendo item of all time (the switch). How Gamefreak has fallen.
the gen 2 sprites are more animated
Weird, like they made the models future proof on purpose
Yeah.. swsh and xy/oras are like wii u games. Rse looks like a super nintendo game.
Vision Flix they work, but that’s not the point I was trying to make. The gen 2 models would work fine up until gen 5, but they’d look god awful, right? That’s the world we live in right now, where pokemon models made 7 years ago keep being used.
Celebi the animations in gen 2 are more simplistic and expressive (with some models) while gen 3 models move around more through shaking and stretching with more animated animations to make them look more alive. It worked at the time for what it was, and the models are much more detailed as well.
The pidgey line being the only one to have a good upgrade… that’s crazy 💀

Which Kanto's Pokemon You Love?
I R E A L L Y Love Arbok ( i mean i like poison type pokemon ._. )
Pikachu's crystal sprite is the best ever
Im the only Guy Who not finish Pokemon shield and swort Cuz im noob xd .-.
I mean some people barely play bc they are busy most of the time, or just got it lol.
Anyways i did a challenge of using only ampharos, other pokemon hm slaves. (no recordings sadly) in heartgold.
I BEAT THE GAME IN ONLY 7 HOURS. NO FAINTINGS EVER HAPPEND.
Person or because a lot of fans have a hard time enjoying the game for a long period of time due to its innate stale design philosophy.
I didn’t finish it because they are boring games- I’m a 16 year old who loved Pokémon for 10 years (still does, I have 500+ hours on gen. 5) but eh, the state it is in just isn’t worth my time
*swort*
Nice comparisons
So yeah that’s it
😎
😎😎😎😎
The fuckin Pidgeot with his frontflips xD
Best comparison so far
I love your content
Bro why did they every change then the original looked sooo goooddd
Crystal is so awful and bad 🤮
Emerald better
no
Old is better
Pokémon in Emerald have seizures
Pidgeot in the right having a seizure mid air
Gen 3 flaaffy looks burnt
Wtf with emerald pedgeott
Emerald wins for me.
How
Javi A secas better colors and just better art overall. And maybe because I’m generally biased for gen 3 and 16-32 bit sprite art in general.
@@d3-penguin954 I also think Emerald has better Sprite Coloring but Crystal has better animations
@@d3-penguin954 I thought so,but I was judging animation. 3rd gen has 2 frames and stretch effects. I dislike those a lot, so I tend to prefer Ruby with no animation at all
@@irmainyhasibuan5523 how can you get a better colour palette in GBC
Ditto sprite in emerald is cute
Obviously most Gen 2 fanboys would kill me from saying this (and they are always so annoying), but Gen 3 are objectively better, not only from a technical but also gameplay perspective, as more frames of animation means more cool at the cost of a very slow gameplay progression (some sprites took up to 5 or 6 seconds and is tedious when grinding or just doing multiple trainer battles), plus the sprites looks way more simpler, mostly using flat colours with zero shading or disgusing unfinished empty parts with the white background. The lower FPS of Gen 2 also makes animation seem more janky. The fact that Crystal is the only Pokemon game i play with animations disabled i think it says something, though unfortunately it also disables the attacks animation. Simply putting, Gen 3 sprites are not only more polished but also more practical when playing it.
Pokemon Gen 2 is a huge reminder to me when making videogames of why practically would always surprass style and even substance or overambition.

por primera ves :D
Crystal was the last time gamefreak put crazy effort into all sprites, afterwards it was always "too many pokemon"
The best animation was pokemon emerald
pidgeot emerald animation looks sick af
