I, personally, think McNeil is the Mets everyday 2b next year, and I think he'll have a bounce back season. He was actually pretty good down the stretch before his hit-by-pitch injury. I think McNeil is a real wild card, but if he gets back to what he has been good at ... could be a huge boost to the offense. I like his chances. The Mets are assembling elite plate discipline. this has been an ongoing process. The guys they have been picking up as stop gaps all have this in common. Guys like Vogelbach, Winkler, Iglesias...not exactly household names...but all tough outs. It's the new "Meta" ...the only way to combat young "mega arms" only designed to pitch 90 pitches *really really hard* Is to take a lot of pitches and make them throw strikes. Make them throw strikes Pete. (Bonds figured it out...just sayin')

Mauricio is definitely not a "superstar." Not yet. Does he have talent that could propel him to being a superstar down the road? Oh, yeah ... I love Mauricio's talent. If healthy, he could be a real star ... I personally project him as a corner OF ... but he's got a lot of positive attributes. Maybe he can learn some plate discipline from Soto ... who is frankly the God of plate discipline right now ... which could push him to his best self. What always seemed to hold Mauricio down was the chase rate. The guy didn't show the discipline to not chase. And that might work to some degree in the minors, but if Mauricio wants to maximize his potential in MLB, he needs to get a grasp of the zone. If he does ... tremendous upside. I look at him as an almost mirror image at the plate of Jorge Soler. I think Mauricio could legit have 40+ HR power. And he is athletic enough to be a plus defender ... either in the infield or, more likely, at a corner OF spot. He's a real wild card for the Mets.
Ronnie Mauricio is a stud. But, the few opportunities that he he been given, it's been nothing to write home about. I think he'll be an average player. If he gets the Mets an ace pitcher for say, two years, you have to give him up. I like Ronnie, but we Mets fans over value our prospects too much. Give us Castillo for Ronnie and two lower level prospects, I say do it!!
Spend it on legit pitching. We already have a solid hitting club, with Acuna, Jett and Ronnie waiting in the wings. We could have had a title last year if brain dead Stearns picked up Flaherty or Snell at the deadline. You don't win against world class hitting teams with a pitching staff of journeymen and reclamation projects.
Honestly the best bang for the buck is trading with Arizona and getting Zac Gallen and Jordan Montgomery ( they are begging to give him away and will also lower the prospect haul because you are taking his contract ) and my assumption is it wouldn’t take nearly as much as a Valdez, Castillo etc but you get 2 SP’s to finish out your rotation but no long term $ and you can focus on bringing back Alonso and getting a DH ( dream all off-season was Joc Pederson ). Depending on how creative Stearns wants to get go flip Montgomery & Marte to let’s say a Marlins with Baty & pay down both guys salary to bring back Jesus Luzardo.
I am a big fan of Zac Gallen. I would love to see the Mets trade for him. I actually favor him more than either Crochet (for whom I think there are question marks) or Castillo (who I also like). I think Gallen is a perfect guy to slot in as pitcher 1B along side Senga. That trade would be awesome, even if it cost the Mets some prime prospect capital.
Sign Pete and add Joc Pederson as a DH who could spell corner outfielders in a pinch. Imagine Joc batting ninth in the lineup in front of Francisco Lindor.

Sounds like you want a repeat of the 1999 Mets. Everyone on the team was either acquired via free agency or trade. That team had 2 good years before it started to decline. Oh, by the way, Machado is 32 years old and has 9 years left on his contract. After 2027, he's going to be making 40 million a year. I don't think getting older makes much sense.

Nah. Don’t see it. Not getting past the dodgers. Starting staff is really weak. Clay Holmes as a starter? That’s just scary. Frankly montas? Ugh. If Alonso walks. You have no first basemen and a pitching staff have no confidence in. Soto is great but doesn’t get you to a WS by him self against the dodgers.
