Hey Gab! You asked about the room 1:26:16 According to the wiki (no spoilers I promise!) this is the "Fish Tank Room" You can see nets hanging from the ceiling, so I imagine it was a place for live fish to be stored before being eaten. For back in the days before refrigeration. I've seen some very old Japanese houses use running cold stream water to keep their vegetables fresh too. Looking forward to the next chapter :)

I have to say, I appreciate the diary entries in this game. They actually read like they're written by normal people. So many "plot by diary" stories have a stilted feel to them, like the writers forgot there's a character behind the entries.
yeah! And the tape recordings. They sound like they had an actual reason to record, not just talking to talk (like most humans don't if going on an expedition and they need to keep some audio notes)
A lot of that comes from the games very strong localization (not translation, localizing a product differs from directly translating it for a foreign market) that Tecmo had. There are some misses (odd double-spaces in documents, poor grammar occasionally) and the vocal director didn't particularly dictate to the actors how to voice scenes, but part of what makes these games hold up is how well they were combed over during the localization process.
This game aged so well holy shit. I'd never heard of it until I started watching Gab, but now that I'm seeing it, I'd believe it if you told me this game came out a few years ago. Almost having a heart attach hearing Gab restarted Fatal Frame Series! I was about to binge-watch her playthroughs for the 3rd time before the notification popped up!
I still love how the voice actors bothered to try to pronounce the Japanese words and names correctly, it's not perfect but there was an attempt, unlike practically every other English dub of Japanese media where they don't care at all about infliction and just butcher everything.
I thought it was that dubs back then (like 80's-90's) were bad, because Japanese media, games, and anime wasn't yet mainstream in the west, but over the last 15 years or so, anime has gotten extremely popular here, so wouldn't dubs be much better now, they honestly get too much hate. Also, not sure you can blame dub actors foe pronunciation, the voice director is telling them how to sound.

I've always wondered about that trope in horror where you're told exactly where not to go. "Yeah, that place that's about 200 yards down the road, then a left, a right by the big tree, and you're there. That place? Yeah don't go there. It'll take you ten minutes, but don't."
I always love that no matter how many times Gab plays a game the excitement is always there. It never gets old! I'm so stoked for another go at the fatal frames!!
I absolutely love how excited Gab gets remembering the events of the game while trying not to spoil anything for anyone new to the series. First person I ever saw online like this to love this series as much as I do and so wholesome while doing it ❤
it´s really nice to hear someone else has this game as their all time favorite. this game today, no matter how many times I play it, it´s still eerie and creepy. The ambience and the ghost soundtrack really just makes you freak out. I know it´s not good voice acting but I have never ever been into perfect voice acting for me to enjoy a game. it deserves love despite some flaws :) I even got the original xbox aswell for both fatal frames to play the directors cut with more content in it.
Fatal frame was the only "horror" game I played as a child, I started with 3 and I had a love hate relationship with it. I love the original trilogy (Since 4 and 5 seem really tame compared to the original three). Personally (in this game especially) I feel like Miku's voice actor did a really good job, I still love Mafuyu's voice, but his acting makes me laugh for sure. I wish more people recognized the Fatal Frame series (as well as Haunting Ground/Dementia) since they are really good. You don't need zombies, fps, or monsters to make a good scary game
So cool to see this for the first time! I’ve only ever seen Crimson Butterfly because a friend in college showed it to me. Loved that game and found an interest in Japanese horror because of it. So, it’s cool to see the other games, finally. I never realized until now that you could follow the player character’s gaze to find stuff.
The only Fatal Frame I experienced was Markiplier playing the 2nd game and him yelling at Mayu the whole time 😂😂😂 so this should be the first official let’s play I’ve watched after that. Can’t wait! Thank you Gab you’re awesome! 💕🤗

Omg what a happy surprise!!!! I remember watching a friend play these and I can't remember which one it was, but one of them has this lady in it with a broken neck that chases you.... And I remember screaming at the top of our lungs waking our neighbors at 2am because she kept chasing us in the game 🤣 absolutely the best games in the horror genre.
fatal frame Marathon playlist? is this possibly 50 hours of gab playing fatal frame? why yes, i think i'll spend the next week watching that. i love these games. they're somehow scary without being overly stressful. hard line to walk.
The series that introduced me to your channel. Was looking for a fatal frame 5 playthrough and yours was the most recommended. Been following ever since. Time to watch you play them all over again.
Ok this is my first time watching anything related to this game, I just knew it existed. I didn’t know it was based on a true story, that’s so cool! Can’t wait to watch all the vids!!
The True story is more involved with the rituals that are talked about through the game. So yeah, it actually is based on true events/folklore, I think the translation was more in error then it being a marketing ploy. Either way, its an interesting research, and the games are so good
You are the only person I've found that plays these games, and sounds like they enjoy it. Most every playthrough I've seen have no commentary, or they aren't excited to play the way you are. So glad to see a new lets play of this game.
This was one of the first horror games I played as a kid (although it was called Project Zero in the UK) and, to this day, the "Ropes.... There are more ropes now...." dialogue still gives me chills and creeps me out when I'm alone at home :D
Wow,..it's so interesting to hear the impact this franchise had on you. I've always wondered what got you interested in Japanese culture. Favorite game of all time. That's a big statement considering how many games you've played. haha...that "wawawa" singing at the beginning shows your excitement perfectly.
watching this for the second time in as many months is the only thing keeping me going tbh. I'm so glad I found your channel, I love your playthroughs they're so enjoyable to watch -- especially these games, it really comes through how much you love these games
NO your wrong Pewdiepie is one of the few RUclipsr who play Fatal Frame series, the correct term is Gab is the only Girl who played fatal frame back in the days :)
Lots of other people played it. I use to go through just Fatal Frame videos to see their reactions. I just couldn't tell you if many of them were well known.
@@NutsItsBerserkinTime i know.. but still fatal frame is fatal frame whatever the part is.. my favorite is FF3 Tormented.. ive finished all fatal frame series except the last one the FF5 coz i dont have a wii u emulator
Thus entire episode Gab is like: "woOOoOow what coULd thiiis beeee? OooOoOOOOoh, who is this? Oh nooOoo, what could happen noOOOoOoOooow?" I LOVE IT! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm really, really happy you're going back through these games. I've seen all the original playthroughs you've done, because I honestly never really got the chance to play these games and I've been so interested in them from a horror fan perspective. Thank you!
This game brings back so many memories. I used to play it for my brother because he was too scared to play it himself alone. We would rush into the house, get our bags put on the table, grab snacks and drinks, wash our hands and kick our shoes off, and then we would book it to the PlayStation 2. I remember him feeding me chips and getting a straw so he could hold the drink up to me so I could drink and play. He was very serious about me not having my hands on the controller. It was such a good memory. I love you’re taking a trip back. Love you Gab.
Gab, I'm a big fan of these format of videos. I love your older Fatal Frame vids, but I honestly find the VOD or stream format to be very distracting, and detracts from the creepy atmosphere of the game when you would interact with the twitch chat in the older vids. I am so happy, I have all of your Fatal Frame playlists bookmarked, and now you're playing them again. Much love, and keep safe!
I was staring at my youtube home page for like 5 minutes, saw this, squeed and clicked lmao! I also got so excited hearing about FF5 for switch, Ive only ever watched it on youtube now i get to experience it for myself ! thank you for replaying FF
My girlfriend and I had always been very curious about Fatal Frame thanks to you and your love for the franchise but we never got the chance to play any of the games nor watch playthroughs so imagine our joy when we saw the video! You've introduced me to so many franchises up until now and you're always doing an amazing job as playing while remaining spoiler free which is truly fantastic! I can't wait to uncover with you all the mysteries the Fatal Frame games have to offer. Thank you!
This is my second time watching this series. I started playing Maiden of Black Water when it came out, but got too nervous at parts and ended up just watching your playthrough. It feels more comfortable sitting with someone else than playing it alone.
I am starting this series today. It is raining out, and cloudy. I have all the lights off and it’s nice and dark. As of right now, I have only seen Fatal Frame 2, which I was very fond of, so I am very excited to get to know more. It’s even better to see how happy it makes you. It makes the videos even more enjoyable. Thank you for playing!
This is so refreshing to see you play the series again, it takes us back to good old times when you once started and followed you ever since. Glad to see you go back to Fatal Frame series once again!
I'm only 15 minutes in but hi hi, you've got a new subscriber - at least for this Fatal Frame marathon! I'm pretty bad with horror on my own so it's always better for me to watch series I'm curious about with a Let's Player in tow. I really appreciate that you're playing your favourite game, you have cool stories and a tattoo to show us, and you say all the Japanese words properly! (Been studying Japanese since I was 6). I really like your positive energy and personality, and that you're playing it "blind" for us, even though you know the game well and can show us cool secrets too!
Jealous!!! I'm still trying to get my own copy and I cant find it for less then 60 Edit just kidding I can't find the first three games under 80 each =(
I can’t wait for all your new followers to experience the love for this game you gave me!! I feel so nostalgic.... this was THE series that got me hooked on you!!!!!!! Can’t wait for the rest.
Hooray for more Fatal Frame! The first one is so cool and it's perfect to go back to the series with the E3 announcement. I'm so excited to play Fatal Frame 5 myself after watching you play all the games over the years. Hopefully more Fatal Frame will follow if the ports of 5 are successful 🤩
This is the best thing ever! I just watched the trailer for the fatal frame 5 on switch and immediately thought of you gab and viola you uploaded this beautiful piece! Were all happy you’re playing this again and we’ll never get tired of watching you playing this! Thank you gab!
I haven’t seen any of the games because I was waiting for a „newer“ playthrough with good sound quality to get all the whispering and now I am addicted 😍 thank you so much for all the work and effort ❤️ I‘m officially a Fatal Frame Fan now 😁
I remember playing a Fatal Frame demo years ago, I think it came with the Playstation Magazine. I can't remember which Fatal Frame game it was, but I loved it. However back then demos were all I had, so I never got to see much more of the series. I'm glad for all of these playthroughs, they give me a chance to finally experience the games! Thanks! :D
Your enthusiasm at the beginning when you went "WOO WOO FATAL FRAME!" was so infectious x) This is honestly also one of the games that got me really interested in games in general! Though I didn't have any consoles back in the day, I'd watch this ENDLESSLY on RUclips and Justin.tv (old!) x) Thanks for the throwback!
Your playthroughs of fatal dream are what brought me to your channel. I bought Fatal frame 3 and it scared me so bad I couldn't finish it. Then found your channel. So its safe to say I'm happy to watch you play them.
I am a new fan of yours and you are already my favorite gamer. I love how thorough you go into each game. Thank you for keeping my company during my stressful finals week!
This game was/still is the scariest game of all time for me. My dad bought it when I was young and we could never beat it, even together. I'm enjoying your gameplay, because your excitement takes away some of the tension (which I greatly appreciate!)
I literally found you because of your playthrough of fatal frame 5 because at the time I didn’t know how to get a hold of it when it first came out. And I also hadn’t met anyone that loved the series as much as myself and my partner (none of my friends liked horror games) so you playing it made me so happy! I’m so glad I can watch you play through them again!
Yay I’m so excited! I’ve been hearing Gab talk about these games for as long as I’ve been watching her (about 2 years) and have always been tempted to go back in her vids to find them and watch them, since they sound simply amazing. But I’ve never caught to catch up since I’m always just keeping up with her recent uploads and Twitch streams. BUT NOW I GET TO EXPERIENCE THEM FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH GAB PLAYING THEM ALL FRESH AND NEW LIKE and I’m so excited to be here for this lol. And yeah, I know not really ‘fresh and new like’ but it’s gonna feel fresh and new to me waiting for the new videos to come out and seeing it all for the first time haha
I can't get over the fact that Gab's vids got me through some difficult moments in my life. I found, and still find, comfort in her vids and the spontaneity she displays throughout her vids. You, Gab, playing Silent Hill was one of my favorite of all time. So, for all that, thank you so much.
I've been OOTL for the last year and a half or so and seeing all the changes for Gab has been amazing. I'm loving how this channel has grown and that she went back to replay this series. Now time for me to catch up haha!
I've heard you mentioned Fatal Frame often but I didn't know that is was where you got the love to study the Japanese culture, very cool. Did you get a love for horror/spooky games because of Fatal Frame as well or did you already have it?
This is so nostalgic to me. I played fatal frame when I was a kid and loved the lore and story behind it. I am so stoked Gab that you are playing them all!
Favorite thing in this game: there are ghosts everywhere, it's all dark and all about death, and yet...she hops around the place like she's on a flower field. Of course, makes sense. How else to survive without being cute? But really, quite a unique one, good mechanics for its time and the little notes are surprisingly well written.
Gab it's so good to see you playing this game again...I started following you because I loved this series...and the horror genre...way back when you had just 200 followers
I've become so fascinated by these games just from these playthroughs and would love if Nintendo decided to rerelease or even remake all of the games for modern platforms. It'd just be such a shame to lose the series to consoles that are starting to age out and deteriorate. I wanna play them all so bad!
This is so exciting, I was worried I would be lost when the new Fatal Frame came out and I wouldn't be prepared to play but I'm so excited you're doing a playthrough! Perfect way to get hyped/prepared for when it drops, can't wait to watch every game!
Omg I started watching this and remembered that I used to play this! Can't remember if I played through the whole game or not tho. Btw, it's my birthday on 12th of september, so I remember I used to think that was funny. Thanks for bringing back that memory for me :)
i’ve been considering going back and watching your old fatal frame playthroughs because i don’t know the franchise at all, so this was a treat! really excited to watch more :)
I love how Gab is so familiarized with the game, it kinda feels like a house tour hahaha, "What is that? Oh, he's our personal ghost, his name is ManLookingDown! Hi, sir 💕"
Gab, you look so happy playing this. It's wonderful :) thanks for the spoiler free version - I'm one of those that knows nothing about Fatal Frame. Can't wait!

And I'm here for Fatal Frame again!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw all your Fatal Frame playthrough. ALL OF THEM! And I'm ready to watch it again ^^ Is this the 5th time you played FF1 here?
need a comfort watch right now; this video was obviously my number one starting pick! I remember the day you posted the ending episode of Fatal Frame 1 and I immediately added this game to my Top Games of All Time list! Yeah I have a literal list :p xo thanks for showing me this franchise
Without real reason ive started feeling nostalgic about fatal frame so i searched for a good ol' playthrough on YT. Gab Smolders, you're one of the few youtuber who isnt overreacting, screaching or obnoxiously annoying in any other way and thats really nice and refreshing. AND youre playing through all entries of the franchise! You've got a new sub mate :)
I found Gab when Fatal Frame V came out because I also love this series and have played it a million times, but please replay these games as much as you want! Even for someone who has also played them, watching how excited you get over a series like this is totally worth it. Fatal Frame needs more love!
31:55 Honestly according to the plot, the camera obscura in Miku's hands in this game actually contains the undamaged complete Holy Mirror. Therefore it can seal the defeated spirit for good, instead of like the following franchises where you can only temporarily make them disappear.
Gab, I'm gonna say this right now, I love to see old game playthroughs, most of the time I cannot find them. But you are literally answering my prayers as of right now, when I saw you did a silent hill playthrough I was in doubt but you came through, best youtuber EVER.
When you say all of them, does that include the Wii U version of 5, or just 1-4 then the new version of 5? For anyone who doesn't know, Fatal Frame 5 was originally a Wii U game released in 2014 in Japan and 2015 in US, Europe & Australia. It was digital only in the US and had a very limited physical release in EU & AU.

@@talesatdawnn it's... a ghost story. How "true", you thought, can this be?
@@alexandraShm Meaning it could've been based on real legends/folklore that's been passed down
The True story is more involved with the rituals that are talked about through the game.
This franchise is what introduced me to Gab. I cant wait for more episodes!!!
Back in the day she's the only RUclipsr who played Fatal Frame!
Me: *auto subscribe*
NO your wrong
Pewdiepie is one of the few RUclipsr who play Fatal Frame series, the correct term is Gab is the only Girl who played fatal frame back in the days :)
Lots of other people played it. I use to go through just Fatal Frame videos to see their reactions. I just couldn't tell you if many of them were well known.
@@arkmark7182 he played fatal frame 2 not the first one
@@NutsItsBerserkinTime i know.. but still fatal frame is fatal frame whatever the part is.. my favorite is FF3 Tormented.. ive finished all fatal frame series except the last one the FF5 coz i dont have a wii u emulator
yep, now she's also streaming at twitch
its so fascinating to watch gab smiling at some parts and gasping even though she knows whats gonna happen, she s the best
AAAAAH SO EXCITED! I WAS HOPING YOU WOULD REVISIT THE WHOLE SERIE!
You play some of the best games and have a soothing commentary style. Perfect to do work to, thanks for that.
Thank you!
This is perfect! i just wanted to see fatal frame for a whilee and now its going to be a marathon!!! YESSS
I literally will never get tired of Gab playing Fatal Frame. Doesn't matter how many times. I absolutely love it ♥
I had only heard the name of the game and only that. This is the first time I've seen any playthrough. I can see how it became your favorite.
I picked this up cheap when it was released. I thought it would be poor but it was the best £14.99 I ever spent.
Jealous!!! I'm still trying to get my own copy and I cant find it for less then 60
Edit just kidding I can't find the first three games under 80 each =(
Damn son keep that. €80 for a physical copy over here.
Thank you for replaying these!! I’ve never played these or watched someone play, so I’m super excited! I’m also hoping to play the new one!
How have I lived this long and never even heard of this game!?!? It's awesome! Thank you for doing a spoiler free playthrough! So fun! 😁
Did your finals go well? I wish you luck if there are still some exams left!
@@MistressMillion Thank You! I am done with the hardest ones. The rest shouldn't be as hard.
this has become my daily playlist to watch. ive fallen in love with this whole game series
All I can think is, "what a big beautiful old house!" I wouldn't mind sharing with the previous owner as long as they don't throw me in a pit, lol!
This reminds me of when I first subscribed, when Gab was translating the fatal frame games. So glad she is playing them again.
Fatal Frame is probably one of the most underrated and best horror franchises to come out of Japan.
This game was/still is the scariest game of all time for me. My dad bought it when I was young and we could never beat it, even together. I'm enjoying your gameplay, because your excitement takes away some of the tension (which I greatly appreciate!)
I’m so glad that Japan is getting recognized for their games it’s amazing! (Coming from a native Japanese person!)
Remember buying this game used during the summer of 2004, totally absorbed me. Great times... :')
Yooooo! I heard the announcement too and I wanted to look back at the old ones so thank you for doing so! 💕
I'm so glad you're playing this series. I really wanted to but never had the time to watch the older playthroughs but I guess I'm watching now :D
Haha when I saw the Fatal Frame trailer at the Nintendo Direct, I was like 'oh Gab is gonna go bananas' 😂👍
I'm so excited for you to playthrough the series again! I can't wait to relive the horror.
I was so hoping for a marathon! This is gonna be good.
Ah, this brings back memories of some sleepless nights haha This game series is so good, true classics!
the 1st time i played this i was sleepless too. coz resident evil was on top of the survival horror genre at that time. this game blew me away
Gab it's so good to see you playing this game again...I started following you because I loved this series...and the horror genre...way back when you had just 200 followers
I’ve hear about Fatal Frame but have never played it, as I’ve always have trouble playing spooky games. I can’t wait to see where the story goes!
I've become so fascinated by these games just from these playthroughs and would love if Nintendo decided to rerelease or even remake all of the games for modern platforms. It'd just be such a shame to lose the series to consoles that are starting to age out and deteriorate. I wanna play them all so bad!
Early gang! Hi Gab!
Im excited for FF5. I hope its successful that it's continued. 😩
Can't wait!
Gab: I'm gonna play through all the Fatal Frame games again!
Me: (someone who has seen every single game played through already and owns two of them) HELL YEAH! :slaps the notification button:
Fatal Frame 2 was my first very first horror game and my favorite horror game of all time so getting to see you play part one is freaking awesome can't wait to see the story cuz part 2 story was amazing I literally had to push myself play this game at night
And I'm here for Fatal Frame again!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw all your Fatal Frame playthrough. ALL OF THEM! And I'm ready to watch it again ^^
Is this the 5th time you played FF1 here?
need a comfort watch right now; this video was obviously my number one starting pick! I remember the day you posted the ending episode of Fatal Frame 1 and I immediately added this game to my Top Games of All Time list! Yeah I have a literal list :p xo thanks for showing me this franchise
I was shocked game still looks good after lile 20 years
Atmosfere and music still spot on
Without real reason ive started feeling nostalgic about fatal frame so i searched for a good ol' playthrough on YT. Gab Smolders, you're one of the few youtuber who isnt overreacting, screaching or obnoxiously annoying in any other way and thats really nice and refreshing. AND youre playing through all entries of the franchise! You've got a new sub mate :)
Never been this early before! Woo hoo!
As a side note, I also wanted Gab to replay the "Siren" and "Alone in the Dark" game series.
For sure, someday!
1 through 4 and then we’ll play the new 5 release!
@@GabSmolders Cool! I'll have to go back to your old playthrough to compare versions once the new one is out.
Do you have any plans to play the 3DS spin off, Spirit Camera, too?
@@TheM0T I don't have the means to record it so nope :)
