this one went a little different than i expected. figured we would basically blow the knock monitor pro up from so much knock. turns out it wanted more timing than i would have expected. ironically this ends up showing the importance of a tool like this. its an amazing way to tell what is false knock and what is real knock, especially when things seem out of the ordinary!

I'm absolutely amazed that you where able to put that much timing in it... I had an 01 Silverado with a 4.8l and now have a 03 with a 5.3l both factory calibrations and if I'm cruising at around 60-70 & floor it I can audibly hear both of them knocking.
I'd love to get one of the knock monitor pros to tune my single turbo ls3 since I broke the ring lands in #7 twice now I've pulled ALOT of timing out because I don't have a good way of tuning timing
What an awesome product, it would help immensely! Its one thing to go to the strip and pull plugs every pass, but we all know that leaves a lot to be desired as far as anything "under the curve" is concerned.
That's pretty impressive it took out that much timing on 87. Crazy the factory sensor is pulling that much timing. That would work great on my carb setup.
tools like the NMP really help you learn the things some other "tuners" just set things at, because that's what they've heard a certain engine/setup wont knock with.

Do you just mount the knock sensor just anywhere on the side of the block?

Joe is this truck have the factory knock sen in the center of the block or on the side. Really love the video. Please do this on a junk all motor honda. Would love to see that.

Factory knock sensors usually monitor low rpm/high load area, because of the noise in high rpm. And that is why TN gets handy - that is why i need it :D

I know this is a year old, but this is very interesting. I have a Silverado as my work truck and have also noticed the Pe enrichment pretty much shut off, and knock sensors that were crazy out of control. But pretty nuts to see the Ign advance your truck is taking, especially on 87. Where did you mount the aux knock sensor?
Huge Fan. Wanting to buy the TunerNerd knock kit. Will a knock sensor work installed on a cylinder head? Factory 302 doesn’t have knock sensors. Turbo setup here.
Sounds between knock and no-knock are actually closer together than I thought.
Sort of takes a trained ear. Horrible knock you can tell big time but can’t exactly blow a car up on purpose for a video unfortunately 😂
Common problem on those trucks.. The Knock sensor valley gets filled with water and crud.. It rots out the factory knock sensors and causes a lot of false knock issues. I am betting that's why the factory system was extra sensitive..

Can this be used with holley terminator x to cut timing or is it just a tool to see when knock shows up seems alot more stable then factory setup

I noticed in another video with these TN knock monitors, the guy (another RUclips channel) showed how his knock detection drastically changed after he set the bore diameter parameter to his engine's spec.
He was testing this on an engine much smaller than an LS though, so it would be interesting to see if has as big an impact here as well.
Bore size is probably the most important setting, when setting it up - it’s not just this unit it’s any knock device
I was thinking in the wrong units, I now see that 96 mm is the proper bore as it's equivalent to 3.78" 😁
@@GTStuning- yup it’s in MM! Also, that will affect what the unit considers to be knock but the actual audio is unaffected so you can use your ears to determine what is knock and what isn’t for yourself!

Hey Joe where did you mount the TN Knock sensor?
On the block as close to the cylinder head as possible. I’ve played with different locations and it doesn’t make as much of a difference as you would expect. I just try to mimic oem locations as best as i can with what’s available on the engine
