How Car Seat Headrest's 'Twin Fantasy' Captures Teenage Love

- This is the first of two videos deep diving into one of my favourite albums of all time: Twin Fantasy. In this video we touch upon the first half of the album, and all the special moments and lyrics that make this record so special for me and other fans alike.
Thank you so much for the positive reception to the first video and I apologize for the wait, I had chosen a particularly bad time to get into this as I was hit with a heap of university coursework after uploading hah! But that's all done now (and I also got a camera set up!) so I will try and improve my output from here on out.

I never see anyone mentioning the way bodys is written. I think that adding an “s” to the singular form as if it was plural builds on the theme of becoming one with the lover and all that about the Self and the Other. They’re two but they coexist in the same body as if they weren’t, and this is the moment when Will finally feels completely connected to his Other. I think it’s an interesting take and I never see anyone point that detail out so yeah. Hope that was interesting.
I saw a reddit post the other day asking whether the mispelling of bodies was deliberate or not and I think this is definitely the most interesting take on this I've seen, thank you for sharing!
I remember in an AMA, Will was asked why "Bodys" is spelled the way it is and he just said he chose to spell it that way because it looked cool.
Interesting perspective. As a 64yo gay man, when I first heard this album (it was also my first experience with CSH after seeing a couple videos of Will performing solo), I was blown away by it's candor and vulnerability, as well as the catchy pop hooks. My thought was, I wish I had a record like this when I was 16. Good video, thanks for sharing.

loved the video and i can’t wait for part 2! although i do have one small critique: i think it’s really important to mention that it was a gay relationship since that played a major role in the whole feeling disconnected from society thing. i get that its a touchy subject because will’s partner has since transitioned, but i feel like it’s still worth the mention

i think that the lyric about eating breakfast lunch and dinner and going to friend's, applying to jobs, going to the shops and going to bed is more about the feeling that depression causes where you know you need to do basic tasks but not having the motivation to do so, as he asks the questions of what should he do and where should he go to himself, trying to convince himself to do so. thats my take anyway might just be bullshit

I think face to face is supposed to be a lot more if an album you can project your own experiences onto than one single love story with him and wurtz

It's so wild how much this album resonates with me and others. So many can relate with LDRs that don't work out but the feeling of trying to persevere. The chorus of bodys touches me so much because I don't see it as "we should list fast die young" per se, but that we should cherish each other every second we have together because life could end at any moment. Also the trying to get your partner to open up with the "I would speak to you in song/but everyone can sing" hits hard, it's troubling when one party loves expressing their emotions through lyrics and the other is more reserved and cold.
this resonates so much with me. my last relationsip was SO similar to what ur describing and it was so painful. when he ended things i was of course devastated, but also felt some sort of relief? i was also expecting it for a while too. but yeah, this comment resonates with me.
I've always thought of 'I wanted to put my arms around it but the conductor looked at me funny' as Will wanting to embrace his partner, after greeting him at a train station, but the conductor looking at him funny is because they're a gay couple, so they play it off. Honestly beach life in death has lots of mentions to queerness imo
I've literally never thought about the do you have something against dogs part as relating to Cate Wurtz and her comics and how he fell in love with her art??? That opened up an entire thought for me, oh my god.
Just finished watching this video, I really hope you one day make a part 2! Just the way you describe everything and show it in such an interesting manner shows that you’ve got potential to do well haha, anyways good luck with whatever you’re doing now mate

i was hoping you would break down famous prophets, my favorite song of all time, idk how you perceive it but to me it’s will reminiscing on his relationship and how he would do anything for it to come back. I think the poem at the end of the song is trying to say that love will always be something that we all crave and how strong love really is because we would put love in front of so much things even intelligence

I got it from my local record store Rough Trade, but looks like it's available on Amazon too ^^ The preview art on Amazon is wrong though, all the vinyl pressings have that awesome alternative artwork

@@mdaily318 that would be Rough Trade again, I remember picking it up blind after a friend had mentioned csh. I'm thinking of maybe doing a haul vlog someday to show how much cool stuff they sell ☺️
great video! really nice presentation you have here, plus you're explaining so many of the reasons why i love this album so much. the editing can be touched up more here and there though, especially with the parts where you play the song and there are lyrics on the screen. for example with the chorus for bodys where the lyrics are on the sides of the screen, that threw me off a bit. generally alot of it doesn't feel as smooth or as slick enough as what i think you're trying to go for with the editing. and maybe have the songs play in the background while you're speaking more? im not an editor so i cant tell you exactly what to do to make the editing better but i hope what i said helps
Twin fantasy is my favorite and my main comfort album after with the codependency on my ex partner ans the abuse i went along the way as i was a teenager, its insane how much i relate and how i thought i would be spending the rest of my life and end it with me dying with them but really i was just slowly killing myself

i think a lot of it is just manifesting such a picture perfect idea of a relationship in your head as it was portrayed in media and a lot of this is alluded to in beach life in death , nervous young inhumans, and my boy
this is obvious but i just wanted to point it out
i also think mirror to mirror is an entirely different album from face to face as mtm was created in the midst of everything that had happened and it was all gritty and amateur and low fidelity and had this overall desperate homemade feel
face to face is more of a reflection of once was but while the experience still lingers he’s looking back into the mirror to see a younger, more fragile and vulnerable version of himself who created mtm
the sound of ftf is obviously a lot more professional and crisp so personally i listen to these two albums for totally different reasons and while they are the same album they beautifully contrast from one another

from what I understand the album is based off of Will's relationship with Cate who goes by she/her, idk when she chose to use those pronouns but I know that during the time of the album's release, she used he/him pronouns so that's what we hear in the songs.

Yeah Will is pretty gay, but Cate Wurtz is MTF transgender and whilst they dated before her transition, I'm just using her current pronouns out of respect ^^
