QUESTION (from a student):
Why OSPF E1 routes are preferred over E2 type?
ANSWER:
As I have explained in the video lecture,
E1 routes = External cost + Internal cost to ASBR
E2 routes = External cost
Therefore, E1 has more cost(metric) to the same destination as compared to E2 ..
... & as we know that a route with highest Metric is always preferred over others if AD is same. Because it causes the packets to reach to destination more fast.
Therefore OSPF has been designed so that it prefers E1 routes over E2 routes.
(Same is true for N1/N2 routes with NSSA type areas in OSPF).
I hope it clarifies your concept now, I have tried as simple English language as possible.
