If You Could Read My Mind was the first album (vinyl) my girlfriend bought me back in 1982. It's a great LP with this and lots of other beautiful tunes on it. We actually, saw him live a few years later and it was amazing. I ended up marrying her and we just celebrated our 40th anniversary this June. Great reaction!

I'm glad I read this comment.... great feel good story. In 1982 I was 24, so we grew up with about the same music.

Beautiful song. And, The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald, puts a whole different spin on that voice. Listen to it, if only for yourself. I can feel the emotion in my neck and back just thinking about it.

Yes, Sarah, the destructive power of failed love can be devastating. You might enjoy a side by side comparison between Gordon Lightfoot (R.I.P. 🙏😇🌹) and Jim Croce (also R.qI.P. 😇🙏🌹). Both were poet/songwriters-performers, both subtle and skilled guitarists, and excellent vocalists. Thank you for this, yet another lovely reaction. Stay well 😊🤩🌹😊

Great song! I was so sad to hear of Gordon Lightfoot's passing away recently. Loved his music. One of the best songwriters & storytellers. He was a Canadian legend. Gordon Lightfoot has had many hits through his long career such as "Sundown", "Early Morning Rain", "Steel Rail Blues", "Ribbon Of Darkness", "Carefree Highway", "Rainy Day People", "Cotton Jenny", "Black Day In July", "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" etc.

I was a teen when this came out, and to this day, this song can make me cry it is just so soulful and beautifully melancholy. It is haunting in a very irresistible way.

The most beautiful song about divorce I've ever heard. I've heard this song the majority of my life, and it was only when I was going through a divorce in 2018 that I could totally relate to it.

For some reason no one ever mentions "The circle is Small", that song is one of his very best, the song is beautiful yet terribly sad and as real as it gets, it's actually about him and his failure at love.

A Canadian legend ….he has many great songs (that picture is from a greatest hits collection - and (1) it was - legitimately - a double album and (2) he had many more great songs after that collection was released…. Another Canadian - Neil Young - also had a major greatest hits collection (Decade) relatively early in his career when he was just getting warmed up….

Dave Mason’s We Just Disagree is a great one as well. The singer songwriters of the 70s were all fantastic. Jackson Browne, John Prine, Todd Rundgren, and James Taylor are just a few.

The reason Gordon Lightfoot is so good is because when
he sings he sounds like he means it, it sounds like he wants us to know his soul.
