I know where a vehicle is that I figured needed a timing belt -- thought about getting it as timing belts are usually very easy... but after watching this ... life is too short... what a horrible design for an engine. You did an outstanding job on this video... on of the best how to repair videos I've seen on RUclips .. Well Done !
Thanks I had to do the timing belt in our liberty which has the same motor and I couldt figure out why that plate wasnt coming off on the right side. THANKS!!
The thing that this leaves me struggling with is taking the cam pullies themselves off. How do you accomplish that without the cams spinning, or does it not matter if they spin?
Man this is a good video! Good detail. But I am going to say like so many people would but I am so glad I bought a 99 with the 2.5L and not a 2.4L mine does not have a belt it has a chain.
Thanks for the vid. Did you use the balancer bolt to pull the balancer, and how do you put it back on. I just got a 2006 wrangler 2.4l, 98,000 miles. belt looks good but I want the peace of mind of a new one. thanks again.
Hello, yes the balancer bolt was in about half way when the puller was used. Then it had to be loosened again when the puller bottomed out on it. I had to flapper wheel the front flange of the balancer to chamfer/bevel it a bit to get it back on. Then pulled it on all the way with the bolt.
Pretty good video up until the water pump, I was hoping you would remove and replace that and the camshaft pulley, kinda void in your presentation. Thumbs up tho👍🏾.
I don’t think you set the tensioner right. The spring tang is supposed to be in the middle of those two notches. And you do that as you put the belt on so you shouldn’t have to shoe horn it on.
at 14:27 there is literally an arrow right on the tensioner pulley. Add tension until the pointers line up and tighten the bolt. If you can't get that then have someone else do it
Man you are a hero for making this video! Not many instructional on the 2.4L. Big props to you!
So glad I came across this. I'm replacing the water pump and doing the timing belt since I'm already in there.
I'm working on his right now...its not my favorite project.
Thank you for this...

So glad I found your video. I've been looking for those hidden bolts.
Thanks, Perfect video 😁👍 all info and locations visualized and great explained
Great video. It's nice how you showed each bolt and socket size and location.
Thank you for the video! Helped a ton for my jeep liberty
how is your liberty holding up? I'm planning to buy a 2004 4cylinders manual 4x4
@@jorge2992 Pretty good though I just sold it. Kept having fuel pump problems but overall it was a nice little vehicle
Thanks for showing me the water pump.

My accessory drive metal bracket has been cracked and welded and is obsolete any idea on where to pick this up
Thank you very much for taking the time to making this video.
Great vid all I needed fot tomorrow

Hi, Removal of valve cover helps and, holding camshaft in position is crucial.
Can you tell me which typeof bolts you used to place the timing belt cover? Pleaseeeee

I can't agree with you here. While the belt is a pain to change, The 2.4 is a stronger motor.
It will break and jump also
I am looking for an harmonic balancer, please help, located in USA.
I’d like to say very good job , something I am wondering tho , Are there any timing marks on gears so you are sure it didn’t jump time ?
Yes and if it jumps it goes limp mode and non interference engine
Do you still driving the Jeep?

Thanks for the info.
The damper pulley to correctly use is same as CHEV Ls 1 rent from auto parts store !
tj r4 2.4 is equiped in timing belt ? i thought there is timing chain. Or maybe are 2 versions of 2.4 ?
The older 4cyl is a 2.5. its an old design. This is a newer chrysler based motor.
This is a better motor
Damn. He didnt show what method he used to put the crank pulley back on
Pretty good video up until the water pump, I was hoping you would remove and replace that and the camshaft pulley, kinda void in your presentation. Thumbs up tho👍🏾.
Do you leave the timing belt on while you loosin the bolts?
Hello, yes belt was on while all bolts were removed up until the tensioner pulley was loosened
@@ml414skidoo Thank you!!!!
@@jasonrodgers7762 You just have to break them loose then they will come off easily using your fingers
How do you change cam seals , the kit comes with them
