I'm very pleased at the choice of Aran Ryan, though it took a bit for it to really make sense. He may appear to be nothing more than a spruced up Piston with a hold move, but they can add so much to him. He'll probably be able to counter star punches, for instance.
What do you mean? Of course people remember Aran Ryan. He's usually one of the boxers that gives players a hard time (when they first fight him, that is). I'm personally glad he's in the game, even though I didn't think he had a chance.
@TheUnknownShroom125 yes, but not all the opponents made it in, and seeing as Aran Ryan was probably the blandest opponent in Super Punch-Out his inclusion was very unexpected, though they did turn him into quite an awesome character.
true, but equally the characters Justin listed were all the only ones in this game (possibly) who were also in SP. I dunno who actually thought Dragon Chan was a shoe-in, I mean I would of thought of him above Aran Ryan, but I suppose they want a representative of each game. (Kid Quick/Disco Kid- PO Arcade, Bear Hugger-SP Arcade, Little Mac- PONES, Aran Ryan-SPSNES)
And "le jeu de boxe à l'ancienne prend un coup de jeune sur wii" is " the old fashion boxing game is renewed on wii" "prendre un coup de vieux" is a french expression meaning "to realize that you're getting old" Coup de jeune is a pun on that expression
Realistically, there's only one slot left open, and it pretty much has to go to a character from the NES game. Either Popinski or Mr Dream. It can't be one of the arcade exclusives. As you said, Disco Kid is apparently a Kid Quick "remake". But, in the same sense, Aran Ryan was a Pizza Pasta "remake". Pasta had the Piston Punch and hold moves Ryan has. Unlike Ryan, Pasta didn't regain any health from it. It wouldn't surprise me if Soda is in. Maybe Aran is a replacement for Piston Honda 2.
i will lol in the faces of many if for some crazy reason, the champ is, in fact, dragon chan. i mean, he could've used his illegal kicks to rise to the top in the WVBA. just a thought...
think about it: there can only be 5 spo spots due to the nintendo power quote bear hugger, aran ryan, bald bull, sandman, macho. that leaves 1 spot left and it CANT be SPO OR NEW it's either soda (hopefully) and machos the last guy, or its mr. dream and im very dissappointed =/
I don't think so, as it seems a bit too specific shape to me, still you could be right, but I would of thought a better placeholder would be the actual next boxer's sihloette. Anyway, I wouldn't mind Dream if he was a secret character, I mean whilst he was a souless skin colour switch of Tyson (with more teeth) I can't help but wonder what direction they'd take him with voice acting etc. That said I can't wait to hear Macho, Sandman and Bull's voices.
The thing you have to remember is the censorship of 2009 is greater than that of 1987. I admit I was shocked when Great Tiger was confirmed, because I expected his indian magician stereotype to be too strong for today's society, the Russian alcoholism might be a bit stronger. If Popinski is in, his stereotype would likely be watered down. I think it would be best to not have Popinski at all if it meant watering down his drink even more. Aran Ryan is a fine replacement, in my eyes.
I hope NLG knows everyone hates Dream with a passion and hasn't put him in. that would mean that popinski would be highly likely to fill the vacant post
either way, Dragon Chan is out of the game, with Aran Ryan confirmed the 5 SPO boxers that have been confirmed in are now known Super Macho Man Mr. Sandman Bald Bull Aran Ryan Bear Hugger
yeah, but Super Macho Man, Mr. Sandman, and Bald Bull were in the first punch out, so wouldn't they qualify as punch out characters instead of super punch out characters?
I wouldn't rule it out that he's Popinski's replacement though. If Soda's in, then Super Macho man will be the final opponent. 'Cause we're getting really close to the 13. No way Mr Sandman or Super Macho Man will be excluded. They were in more games than anyone but Bald Bull.
Aran Ryan is the bully of the fighters (aside... maybe Bald Bull?), he uses some nasty punches, only gets affected by special hits and drains your energy like a bitch.
Glass Joe Von Kaiser Disco Kid King Hippo Piston Honda Bear Hugger Great Tiger Don Flamenco Super Macho Man Bald Bull Aran Ryan supposebly: Soda Popinski and/or Mr. Sandman am i right?
I liked Aran Ryan. It looks like he'll be a 3rd level boxer again so maybe in this game he'll be harder than in the last one. Kagero wouldn't be in because Hondo is the Japan rep. If Disco Kid is from the Caribbean instead of the U.S. it looks like NPCs are limit one per country this game.
maybe he could drink water... anyway, I really hope Soda's in, mainly as he's one of the few from the arcade games, and other than Dragon Chan and Pizza Pasta (who tbh has a really crap name) all the others seem to be in it (Of course Macho Man and Mr Sandman haven't been seen yet, but they should be in as they're next to Bald Bull for most appearances, and Kid Quick I believe is now Disco Kid.) also he would be the only NES one not in it too.
First of all: Dragon Chan is from Hong Kong, Piston Honda/Hondo is from Japan. Second: Dragon Chan uses kicks and meditates to regain health. Piston Honda/Hondo has twitching eyebrows and only punches. And yeah, Aran Ryan was pretty much the blandest character in Super Punch-Out!!, but maybe this game will add some color to him. The already kind of did with the shamrock on his shorts.
DAMN IT! I wanted Dragon Chan! Aran Ryan? Who cares about Aran Ryan?! Seriously, how many people actually remembered this guy? Did anyone actually know who he is? Dragon Chan is far more popular!
I see no difference between two asian characters (Honda and Chan) and several European characters (Flamenco, Kaiser, Glass Joe, Aran Ryan. and if they were trying to tone down the slightly racist part. what the hell is Great Tiger doing in the game.
I find that racist. It's the same as saying Glass Joe and Von Kaiser are same-y since they're white Europeans. Or Disco Kid and Mr. Sandman are same-y because they're both black! Yeah, and the Indian wearing a turban is not the LEAST bit racist. :/
i keep coming back to this video to hear the music
I'm very pleased at the choice of Aran Ryan, though it took a bit for it to really make sense. He may appear to be nothing more than a spruced up Piston with a hold move, but they can add so much to him. He'll probably be able to counter star punches, for instance.
Considering the make over they gave him, all those concerns were floored by his glove on a rope.
Anyone else notice the first group shot had Don Flamenco but the preview of the minor circuit had Disco Kid?
the shadow is likely just a generic placeholder for the next opponent
What do you mean? Of course people remember Aran Ryan. He's usually one of the boxers that gives players a hard time (when they first fight him, that is). I'm personally glad he's in the game, even though I didn't think he had a chance.
@TheUnknownShroom125 yes, but not all the opponents made it in, and seeing as Aran Ryan was probably the blandest opponent in Super Punch-Out his inclusion was very unexpected, though they did turn him into quite an awesome character.
"enchainez votre adversaire" here means "punch your opponent repeatedly"
true, but equally the characters Justin listed were all the only ones in this game (possibly) who were also in SP. I dunno who actually thought Dragon Chan was a shoe-in, I mean I would of thought of him above Aran Ryan, but I suppose they want a representative of each game. Not necessarily, thought he's pretty much a shoe-in.
Then agian, everyone thought Dragon Chan was a shoe-in...
GOD DAMMINT, NEXT LEVEL GAMES!!!
yeah, i'm really tense that popinski being replaced is a possibility, i'd be unhappy if that happened
And "le jeu de boxe à l'ancienne prend un coup de jeune sur wii" is " the old fashion boxing game is renewed on wii"
"prendre un coup de vieux" is a french expression meaning "to realize that you're getting old"
Coup de jeune is a pun on that expression
THIS GAME IS LIKE CRAZINESS IN A BOX!
It'd be nice if they made several ports to other systems.
Realistically, there's only one slot left open, and it pretty much has to go to a character from the NES game. Either Popinski or Mr Dream.

It wouldn't surprise me if Soda is in. Maybe Aran is a replacement for Piston Honda 2.
Did he now? Yeah, he's definitely tough...
yeah, but initially there was no way to know about that.
i will lol in the faces of many if for some crazy reason, the champ is, in fact, dragon chan. i mean, he could've used his illegal kicks to rise to the top in the WVBA. just a thought...
I just read that there will be unlockable characters, to Dragon Chan has a chance!!!
think about it: there can only be 5 spo spots due to the nintendo power quote bear hugger, aran ryan, bald bull, sandman, macho. that leaves 1 spot left and it CANT be SPO OR NEW it's either soda (hopefully) and machos the last guy, or its mr. dream and im very dissappointed =/

Probably? He's been nearly as many games as Bald Ball!
Aran Ryan was hard as hell
That is the most likely roster.
wow. the incredible mac.
aran ryan confirmed!!!
Dragon Chan and Honda are drastically different
Do they, now?
because in super punch-out!! he was the blandest character, so him getting in over different characters (Dragon Chan, Masked Muscle) was a surprise.
The thing you have to remember is the censorship of 2009 is greater than that of 1987. it's just not a great picture, his gloves are purple and he still has the clover
I hope NLG knows everyone hates Dream with a passion and hasn't put him in. that would mean that popinski would be highly likely to fill the vacant post
Well, Disco Kid and Mr. Sandman are both from the US so... o_O
I wonder who that shadow is, because Aran Ryan looks to skinny in the trailer to be him, and Hondo's already on there...
Why are you suprised Aran Ryan is in it?
sounds about right
either way, Dragon Chan is out of the game, with Aran Ryan confirmed the 5 SPO boxers that have been confirmed in are now known
Super Macho Man
Mr. Sandman
Bald Bull
Aran Ryan
Bear Hugger
his Training is over !!!
yeah, i'd rather have seen Chan, but Aran Ryan opens up the possibility for some awesome fight music
ok, i'll correct it.
bollucks! where was he?
yeah, but Super Macho Man, Mr. Sandman, and Bald Bull were in the first punch out, so wouldn't they qualify as punch out characters instead of super punch out characters?

So is Super Macho Man, did you forget him?
2:00 WTF?! IS LITTLE MAC THE INCREDIBLE HULK?!
Aran Ryan is the bully of the fighters (aside... maybe Bald Bull?), he uses some nasty punches, only gets affected by special hits and drains your energy like a bitch.
Whats the name of this song?
Glass Joe
Von Kaiser
Disco Kid
King Hippo
Piston Honda
Bear Hugger
Great Tiger
Don Flamenco
Super Macho Man
Bald Bull
Aran Ryan
supposebly:
Soda Popinski and/or
Mr. Sandman
am i right?
So?
So, your statement of Aran Ryan giving people a hard time doesn't really apply to everyone.
You found that out, too, huh? BS... :(
I liked Aran Ryan. It looks like he'll be a 3rd level boxer again so maybe in this game he'll be harder than in the last one.

i'm just as dissapointed. but i'm sure he'll be a great addition, not as great as Chan would've been, but still fun.
Yeah but the U.S. has several different stereotypes behind it. Actually, not several. A -lot-.
DAMN IT! I wanted Dragon Chan! Aran Ryan? Who cares about Aran Ryan?!
Seriously, how many people actually remembered this guy? Did anyone actually know who he is? Dragon Chan is far more popular!
I know Chan wouldve been better and for all the ppl who thinks he basically Piston Hondo he uses kickboxing and Kung fu unlike him
I see no difference between two asian characters (Honda and Chan) and several European characters (Flamenco, Kaiser, Glass Joe, Aran Ryan.
and if they were trying to tone down the slightly racist part. what the hell is Great Tiger doing in the game.
Heike Kagero and Mad Clown gave me a harder time then him. Mr. Sand Man and Masked Muscle gave me a harder time than him.
