Jordan Craters looking toward the Steens

  • I took my drone out to capture some stunning aerial views of the Jordan Craters in Oregon, which are part of the Jordan Valley area, south of Burns, Oregon. As you can see from the footage, the area is absolutely covered in lava. It’s really amazing how much of this landscape was shaped by volcanic eruptions. The colors and textures are incredible. The craters are maar volcanoes, which are formed when groundwater comes into contact with magma. The explosions that result from this interaction cause the ground to collapse, forming craters. The Jordan Craters are a great example of this type of volcano.
    In this video, I’m also looking toward the Steens Mountain, which is the tallest mountain in southeastern Oregon. It’s an impressive sight, and it’s even more amazing to see it from above. I hope you enjoy this drone video.
