  • Intro to X-Rigging Ring slings. By theXman. Video part ONE. (First couple minutes I was talking slow like an old man, sorry, it picks up, sick that day.) Finally I hope you find this is a descent video showing the X-Rigging Rings. Not too exciting, but a must for new users I think, or people trying to decide which ones to buy. I tried to sneak in video clips to make more exciting. Sorry for the length, there was actually so much more to say. I never even got into how to use an XRR sling with eye to make an arborist block retrievable and basically double the capacity of the sling itself. Just showed basic stuff here.

    I couldve saved money and bought the imitation. But i heard your interview on the educated climber podcast, and all the work you put in to this, and bought YOURS.

    Dude you're an expert tree guy. Im a novice. However i am an engineer, the guy below me felt the same and was compelled to comment. Thank you for your tree expertise, but just know that the added strength of aluminum is the composition of the aluminum series. Aluminum naturally oxidizes. Its very hard and what is done during anodization is this layered is electrolytically deposited onto the aluminum and the result are the rings you like so much. The skin alone has a hard wear surface.

    Yesterday I finished a job in two days that I previously thought would run into a third. I used the three ring X Sling on a ridiculously small limb that happened to be over a perfect/clear landing zone, only because it was backed up by a single ring on a appropriate rig point in a less advantageous location. I’m going to order a few more slings. Thanks for all the dedication and hours you’re putting in to make this available to me and others.

    KNOT to split hairs but the way you shorten your sling is just the same way that you would use a conventional double eye sling for a block and is called a timber hitch. Using a timber hitch is probably the most effective way to get a good bite on the tree without damaging it. I can see a lot of uses for these rings! 👍

    Anodizing is a way of thickening the oxide layer on the surface of the aluminum. It will NOT increase the strength. It will, however, help with corrosion resistance, improve lubricity ,and Increased wear and abrasion resistance.

    • @thexmanjdd
      @thexmanjdd  9 лет назад +1

      HowToOverthink correct. Mate that with an aluminum that is not too soft and not too hard and you have the X-Rigging Rings.

    Richard,
    It's a plastic cheap biner called the Petzl Caritool. They can be a little irritating if they hook on a branch. The one you saw was the large size. I've gotten mad when they hook something behind me and broken a few. But it's not that common and worth carrying one.

    I found this to be very informative and appreciate the time you took to make the video. I have a question about the 3 ring rule and how the safebloc, the aerial friction device, is ok to use as a terminal rigging point. If I understand correctly, its about bend radius and I am trying to understand how the safebloc is achieving a radius that maintains the strength of the rope like the 3 rings do. Thank you.

    Thanks Merle for the positive comments. It's amazing the haters that come out when the small guy introduces a product to this industry, but I'm told it's normal. If it had petzel or DMM name on it everyone would automatically think it's awesome. But you guys that have them, know how nice they really are and the product itself will grow it's popularity. What makes me feel good is that the big well known names in this industry have been ordering them and love them.

    I don't care if the vids are long. The idea of making a redirect before a main rigging point will save alot of force and less chance of something breaking before the rigging point!

    I didn't even get into block use with a sling.
    This video is educational on the XRR slings.
    NOT ENTERTAINMENT.
    It's for people that are considering buying a sling or two OR for the people that already own them.
    Again, not very entertaining; I did try to squeez in some action clips, but there wasn't much room to fit them in.
    I think it's a must see for possible consumers and users.
    I will try to put action shots together tonight for Part TWO and post it too.

    15:25 "You're going to want it just right so all slings get tight though". Yes, that's exactly the problem that would make me not bother even starting to fiddle around with this configuration - too hard, and no way of assuring success: it looks like a solution in search of a problem. I also don't buy the use of rings for the fishing line application you open with, save for the top rigging point. The multiple redirects below it are all low angle redirects and so involve low force, so they don't need an expensive solution - karabiners on small slings will do. BUT....the triple-ring arrangement over a crotch is another thing....I like this.

    nice video only problem i seen was the way you rigged at 15:10 looks like a bad practice to me .... and the reason i say that is because the way them slings are put together if you place the wrong amount of pressure on the inserted side of the sling the eye (loop) will open there is no way way you can determine the amount of pressure your going to set on each X ring every time. i know the knots of the pruisk will hold the rope but it might pull the inner out i hope this makes since....

  • @justinduce2255
    @justinduce2255 8 лет назад +1

    Three rings, three components to replace a block and sling. It seems like more work and more shit. Even using it as a redirect would be limiting because you have to feed the rope through the hole where a simple sling and micro pulley could be hooked in mid line or removed. Looks high quality but, again this would be the far down on my want list of rigging equipment.

    • @bollykolly8546
      @bollykolly8546 8 лет назад

      Another Pro is to limit moving components. Under heavy load a bearing could fail. And these are much lighter then a Block. The simplicity is key in removing potential equipment failure. As for feeding through the whole length of. Your rope. You would need to plan your redirects accordingly before attempting to rig.
