Oh my, this is wonderful. I saw Sophie Tucker when I was 8 at The Royal Variety show. She was my Grandma's favourite.
My Mother at 87 has Alzheimer's but when I put on I remember it well she could sing it word perfect. She remembers little now but the sight and sound of these two for a magical moment brought her back her life.

Maurice Chevalier was a great talent, and this was one of his signature songs (arguably THE song of the later part of his career). It's always enjoyable to hear him sing it. It's just too bad Sophie Tucker didn't respect him, and the song, enough to bother to learn the lyrics to it.

    Paroles
    HONOR?:
    We met at nine
    We met at eight
    HONOR?:
    I was on time
    No, you were late
    HONOR?:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
    We dined with friends
    We dined alone.
    HONOR?:
    A tenor sang
    A baritone.
    HONOR?:
    I remember it well.
    That dazzling April moon!
    There was none that night.
    And the month was June
    HONOR?:
    That's right, that's right.
    It warms my heart
    To know that you
    Remember still
    The way you do
    HONOR?:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
How often I've thought of that Friday--
    Monday--
    HONOR?:
Night, when we had our last rendezvous
And somehow I foolishly wondered if you might
By some chance be thinkin' of it too
    That carriage ride
    You walked me home
    HONOR?:
    You lost a glove
    I lost a comb
    HONOR?:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
    That brilliant sky!
    We had some rain
    HONOR?:
    Those Russian songs
    From sunny Spain
    HONOR?:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
You wore a gown of gold
    I was all in blue
    HONOR?:
    Am I getting old?
    Oh no, not you!
    How strong you were
    How young and gay
    A prince of love
    In every way
    HONOR?:
Ah yes, I remember it well.

They cut a sequence of the song, so Sophie Tucker got the lyrics wrong. He says, "That brilliant sky.." She replies, "There was none that night..." when the line is, "We had rain." She took a line from the next stanza. Here are the correct lyrics:
    HONORE:
    We met at nine
    We met at eight
    HONOR?:
    I was on time
    No, you were late
    HONORE:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
    We dined with friends
    We dined alone.
    HONORE:
    A tenor sang
    A baritone.
    HONORE:
    I remember it well.
    ***That dazzling April moon!
    ***There was none that night.
    ***And the month was June
    HONORE:
    ***That's right, that's right.
    It warms my heart
    To know that you
    Remember still
    The way you do
    HONORE:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
How often I've thought of that Friday--
    Monday--
    HONORE:
Night, when we had our last rendezvous
And somehow I foolishly wondered if you might
By some chance be thinkin' of it too
    That carriage ride
    You walked me home
    HONORE:
    You lost a glove
    I lost a comb
    HONORE:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
    ***That brilliant sky!
    ***We had some rain
    HONORE:
    ***Those Russian songs
    ***From sunny Spain?
    HONORE:
Ah yes, I remember it well.
You wore a gown of gold

Apart from the touching singers of a bygone era, please listen hard to the orchestra--jamming like nothing you've ever heard soon after 8:00. Turn up the volume, frighten your neighbors! It's incredibly thrilling! And Sullivan's initial reaction, smiling broadly, arms outstretched and shaking his head with awe and amazement--this is the music he grew up hearing with some added muscle! Compare to his stony-faced reaction to most acts.
