I am almost 80 years old and remember this show with fondness as a grade school kid with my beloved Aunt Tess . We watched Ed Sullivan faithfully. Different times and days when a kid and AUnt enjoyed TV together.
I am 52 1/2 and found one of the Great Ms.Sophie Tuckers' albums in a little thrift store! Loved it! Was about 18 then. My Grandparrents influenced me much...They were also two of my very best friends and I miss them still every day of my life!
Oh my, this is wonderful. I saw Sophie Tucker when I was 8 at The Royal Variety show. She was my Grandma's favourite. My Mother at 87 has Alzheimer's but when I put on I remember it well she could sing it word perfect. She remembers little now but the sight and sound of these two for a magical moment brought her back her life.
@@aileen9553 You my dear,do not have the charm,or wit of Ms. Sophie Tucker... I can cuss like a sailor at the right time, but you- sincerely have a very brutal case of unprofessional behaviour for a random comment! Wow! You'll be remembered for something...Hope it won't be your nasty comments in this life!😉🐴🤠
Just fantastic. The power of character and personality combine to make a stage presence that is beyond entertaining to watch. That goes for both of these wonderful performers.
So wonderful to see these two charming scene stealers giving and taking from each other. Sophie lets Chevalier be the extrovert while she very wisely holds back. Wonderful chemistry.
It's wonderful when you see two really brilliant performers performing together. When it's the only time they appeared together, it's truly a special moment.
Just wonderful from the old and much more Lovely days of old. Thanks for this so much!! I was 11 years old and my mother and I always watched Ed Sullivan!
This is why I like youtube! I never heard of Sophie Tucker even though I am no youngster myself! She could belt out the tunes! Reminds me of Adele these days! She was awesome!
When Ed Sullivan pays such accolades to his performers as to bring them back to have the audience, "bring the roof down...." you KNOW you have seen something VERY special!
A pair of entertainers the likes of which will never be seen again. Long lasting stars from vaudeville, movies, radio, TV. Fantastic that they are on tape. Classic.
What a Great War Hero this man was,, he fought for our freedom, served two years in a prison camp. He is one great hero and a wonderful person and wow what a great singer. Today your walking the golden streets with our lord.
Maurice Chevalier was a great talent, and this was one of his signature songs (arguably THE song of the later part of his career). It's always enjoyable to hear him sing it. It's just too bad Sophie Tucker didn't respect him, and the song, enough to bother to learn the lyrics to it.
I remember when i heard on the news Maurice had died. It made me so sad, i actually cried. My mom would sing Sophie's I'm the last of the red Hot Mommas. and some of her other songs.Talent like this is hard to find nowadays.
1958. I was born. Lest we remember. Lest we forget. Named after Maurice Chevalier. Let us not forget the Rythme of The Rain. Mimi....you good for nothing Mimi am I the guy.....?!!!

Apart from the touching singers of a bygone era, please listen hard to the orchestra--jamming like nothing you've ever heard soon after 8:00. Turn up the volume, frighten your neighbors! It's incredibly thrilling! And Sullivan's initial reaction, smiling broadly, arms outstretched and shaking his head with awe and amazement--this is the music he grew up hearing with some added muscle! Compare to his stony-faced reaction to most acts.
Sophie messed up a lyric: "That brilliant sky" should be followed with "We had some rain", not "There was none that night." "We had some rain" is meant to rhyme with "From sunny Spain?"
Who is still listening July 9, 2024 ?
I remember it well
No-one and I mean no-one was better and more fantastic then Sophie and Maurice !!! Bless their hearts ! With love , Stu Kurland of Modesto
Now Maurice-- you and Sophie now take over the theatre, the show and the stage. What a gracious introduction. Hard not to cry at this one.

Sophie hold back? That must have been the only time. These two are among the all-time show-business greats.
It's wonderful when you see two really brilliant performers performing together.
When it's the only time they appeared together, it's truly a special moment.
Gosh... and I was only 2 years old!? What great performers! Brings tears to my eyes to see two masters at their craft!
Simply charming.. Pure class from an era in entertainment we're not likely to see again. Loved it.
Thanks so much for posting; still watching in Nov.2022. Great, timeless performers with phenomenal stage presence.

Entertainment like this doesn't exist anymore.
You are so right as a very Young Man I loved him and his singing of Great Love songs. Much better times!
Your absolutely right. Today so called " talent" can't hold a candle to the stars of the past.
It will continue to exist as long as we still have access to it! Thank you to whomever put this up!
This is such a priceless treat! Thank you!

God they are like an old married couple it's a shame they didn't work together more often two greats together on there retirement
Being offered, choosing the right role and timing I daresay was key…
This is my 1st introduction to Sophie. But, Maurice I enjoyed from the 1st time I watched him perform: both his Voice & Charm!
Wow, what beautiful wonderful people - all three of them but so emotional and I'm afraid we'll probably never see the like of them again.
That. Was. Awesome. Especially "I Rememnber it Well". "Am I getting old?' Oh no! Not you"
What a treasure! Loved seeing this! Thanks for sharing!
All I've got to say is this... Oh, wow.
So sweet to watch, loved it 😘
WOW! This is what showbiz is all about--there are no performers in their league anymore!
