Tori gay fans: Can you make a dance song for us!
Tori: Here! dance to this...a song about cunnilingus 🤣
And we do
😂😂
😂😂😂
I knew a guy in the military who said that Raspberry Swirl was his favorite work out song of all time. He would go to the track field to run and all the army guys were warming up with this song back in the 90's.
Tori could play Mozart by ear on piano at age 2. And was/remains to be the youngest person accepted into the Peabody Institute at age 5. I definitely recommend her live stuff. "Blood Roses" from her 1999 Las Vegas performance is pretty intense. "I Can't See New York" live from 2003 is pretty amazing, along with the song itself. And of course, her performance of "Winter" from 1991/1992. There's tons of other live performances that I could point to. Her tour history and discography is just that expansive.
The funny thing is, your comparison of Tori, Bjork, and PJ Harvey, I remember a magazine cover back in the day, that featured all three of them in a roundtable interview, a quick search found it was "Q" magazine in May 1994.
THOSE THREE WERE THE BESTR TRIAD OF QUEENS THIS WORLD HAS EVER PRODUCED.
Choirgirl Hotel is a brilliant album the whole way through.
I can't imagine this being the first Tori song to hear... it's good, but definitely not really representative of the rest of her catalog. Try 'Caught a Lite Sneeze' or "Precious Things" -- she's a GOAT, really top 3 for for me all time amongst female artists. Amazing piano player (child prodigy, started playing at age 2), incredible songwriter, lyricist, and producer. She doesn't get nearly enough credit for how good she's been for a very long time. I saw her in 1998 and was completely blown away... what stage presence.. what a jawdroppingly beautiful woman. She's everything.
Definitely check out more, she's got a wide variety of styles, her piano and compositions are superb! This album is more of her electronic exploration had lots of remixes too, I loved it, was great live! But all her stuff is diverse & beautiful, she's got a series of personalities she channels to bring all the different unique styles.
The ONLY piano rocker imho!
although Raspberry Swirl is my all time favourite Tori song, its probably her biggest departure from her normal sound
You managed to pick one of the most anomalous Tori Amos songs out there. It’s her only straight up dance song, although there has been a lot of dance remixes her songs over the years. If you check out anything else from her, you’re going to find that she’s probably the most skilled pianist in popular music in the last 30 years, and her use of the piano is very dynamic.
It was chosen by someone whose very into dance music, but I’m still intrigued in general by what I heard here.
@@AlexHaitz Yeah, just as a reference, she is a piano prodigy who played classical compositions as a toddler and she was the youngest person (age five) ever admitted to the Peabody Conservatory of music, on a schoarship for her piano virtuosity.
She's an extraordinary pianist, but she's also a brilliant lyrical poet and thinker.
Most comparisons between her and Kate Bush are entirely superficial, but one that holds up is that both are just brilliant artists of a type the music industry rarely promotes. Tori just wrapped a tour and she issued her latest album-which is gorgeous-last fall. She's still going strong and just one of the most artistically ingenius and intelligent people out there.
Well said, and her first 3 albums are her best!
This cd was def more synth than she usually is.
Your comment about tori - bork - PJ is very accurate... / From this album I would have chosen for you the song “Spark” / and from her complete repertoire.... Well there is a lot good of material to choose from, especially from her first 5 albums. / LP “boys for pele” is a master experiement on pianos and lyrics, but maybe not to hear for the first time. instead you could try first or second álbum.
He also mentionned Kate Bush which is even more acurate, especially in Tori's first 3 albums. "From the Choirgirl Hotel" could also be associated with KB's "The Dreaming" for it's will to experiment and change the rules. "Raspberry Swirl" reminds me some aspects of "Sat in your Lap" (not lyrically of course) despite their obvious differences.
I know many Tori Amos's fans reject the comparisons with Kate Bush which I can't partly understand as her work is definitely her own stuff but the parallel (and I'm not talking about inspiration) between both those great artists can't be denied. Nevertheless, I agree with the fact that what both express and how they do it is also very different.
@@cuckoofan I love Kate Bush. undisputed pioneer of many sophisticated artists. I don't find a marked influence in the musical work of Tori Amos, but I do find an echo in her voice color.
Her live session from 1998 is the best
This is the most … unique … way to start your Tori journey. Still, great.
Tori is a brilliant artist in every respect. I hope you will listen to more of her music. Raspberry Swirl definitely is not representative of what to expect sonically, but Tori's music is a genre unti itself (It really is; that's not hyperbole.), and so there really is no one song to recommend that encapsulates her work. I can recommend 20 or 30 to start with. :)
Add Little Earthquakes to your album reaction list. So many great songs on there.
A perfect debut album. (Not counting YCTR)
Listen to Tori's songs Winter or Little Earthquakes instead, if you want to get an idea of how powerful her songwriting can be.
All you said about piano in a rock song, Tori is a master to deliver fantastic groove from it. Go watching her live performances on RUclips.
So true in general, and especially on Scarlet's Walk album.
I haven't followed her career closely, but she got much better stuff than this song in her discography. Check out the album Boys For Pele.
Theres a remix of this song that I LOVE. Its calle dthe Ambient mix.
your artistic style comparison is accurate. if you want a more piano rock taste of Tori's music check out iieee, Waitress, or Precious Things from Sessions at West 54th. all are on youtube.
I love this song but it isn’t very Tori, hope to see more of her on your channel 💗 💫
I really enjoy this song in context of her career, but it is not very reflective of her as an artist.
Without the likes of Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Kate Bush, etc. there would not be a Tori.
She is soooo awesome.
Sexy, smart, creative.
Unique.
This is one of my favourite songs from Tori.
But.
She has some great songs!
One of a kind despite her parallels with other artist.
Watch her play.
She is so much more when watching her. It’s like you can’t really get her music unless you watch her perform.
Then.
You’ll be addicted.
ayeee mine forgot i did this
"Hote" was her most innovate work on the Choirgirl album....
Hotel
@@russellhamrick7148 Hotel is phenomenal, though the whole album is amazing. Raspberry Swirl is probably my least favourite song...and I still love it.
*shakes it*
Taiji no Yume ~ Yoshiko Sai
I think "piano rock" is what Tori was going for when she first started, but this wouldn't be an accurate description of most of her catalog. While I like Raspberry Swirl, it's among my least favorite. Please listen to the rest of From The Choirgirl Hotel, and then listen to her other albums, especially the earlier ones.
Not the best introducton to Tori honestly.
Bench-warmer Kate Bush. And a day walker at that.
you are a miserable man
Lol. I hate it when people compare the two. Sure, they sound "similar" but I give Tori the edge since she's ALWAYS toured. Kate didn't really have much of a tour career in comparison to Tori. Tori also seems to be an overall more gifted pianist than Kate.
@@mattiusgabe7354 More gifted than Kate Bush? 😄 That's some straight up comedy. Take care and enjoy your awful Y Kant Tori Read albums and remain delusional.
@@mattiusgabe7354 And you're right. I hate it when people compare TORI to Kate Bush, and believe me, that happens way too much.
I'm sure Kate would appreciate you pitting Tori against her.
