I loved your easy going mentality, when I was first practicing I was getting all worked up because I couldn't get the consistent look and feel you had achieved, I had stopped the video with a picture of your examples, BAD IDEA, I should have listened and watched, all the way through first, so I too could have reminded myself to take the pressure off, and enjoy the process. I am grateful for that advice alone. Not to mention all the savvy art advice and wonderful demonstration, I read some of the reviews and yes, I must agree, you are not only a wonderful artist, but a wonderful teacher. I can't thank you enough!!

These are gorgeous, can't wait to play! Seems to me breaking up that "dramatic black outline" (at the end) keeps it from looking lie a coloring book. You'd get the pop and drama without a heavy outlined look, keeps it "sketchy". LOVE your style

Hello from Belgium! I love the way you explain how to draw, it is very clear! I love hydrangeas, and thank you for NOT calling them hortensias. Indeed the color has to do with the acidity of the soil: the more acidic the soil, the more blue they become, the more basic it is, the more pink they become, with all the purply shades in between. I also love the fact they change color during they flowering season. Now, they are some white varieties as well, maybe that's what you got.

I have learned so much from you in the last 2 weeks by crushing your videos. It has leveled up my confidence in drawing. I too am from Ontario but living in costa rica so it has been nice to revisit the flowers from home. I also have learned to leave the perfectionist at the door. Thank you super duper! 💜

I love hydrangeas too. I have white ones that turn dark pink at the end of the season, a paniculata which is white with a green tinge which also turns pale pink and a blue one that becomes wine coloured at the seasons end. My sister gave me a cutting of one that is white with a green tinge and has double and triple petaled flowers. The leaves turn wine red in Autumn. I am learning so much by drawing with you. Arohanui from me in Aotearoa New Zealand. ❤

I think the plant you mentioned that turns a dusty pink in fall is the Oak Leaf Hydrangea. I have them around my home in Florida, they go from green-ish to white-ish flower in the summer. They are wonderful to dry and keep their shape really well for fall dried arrangements and have a more conical shape than the round snowball shape of the ones your drawing here and they are a much larger/taller plant.

Terry is correct about changing the colour from pink to blue. The white varieties are different as the flowers age they may go alittle pink but they don't change colour depending on the pH of the soil. Coloured varieties can change where as white don't.

Beautiful drawings - which will test my new efforts! I think soil types do dictate flower colours - here in the UK garden centres sell additives for watering into plants to help alter or maintain hydrangea colours. Thanks.

Your hydrangeas will bloom different colors depending on your soil pH. If you want the pinks and blue, all you need to do is get some aluminum sulfate from any garden center. It only takes 1/4 ounce per gallon of water. Mix it up and water around your hydrangeas with it in the spring and your blooms will have color. ❤
