Sadly, Lennie is no longer with us now but this tune, which is one of the tunes that gave the birth of DNB / Jungle, still shines to this day (33 years).
I was there when he produced this. Sebert Road in Forest Gate. Juno 106 an Akai S950 and an Atari running cubase. Game changer. Big up Lenny and the Brother Man (Long John RIP) and Mike Aymer. Peace - Hopa & Bones.
Oooh imagine in the early 90’s a whole warehouse of young ravers steady skanking skipping to this and that bass line just bouncing everyone from pillar to post…well I don’t have to imagine because I was of them…absolute tune
Fifty two years old and still this tune gives me a right thrill! I can send this to my rave crew without any explanation, and they know! Brilliant times thank you!!!
I'm sat in the mancave/ garage with tasty green at nearly 40 holding on to the memories of my youth and the friends I lost ! ....peace and unity to all who where there 🙆☝👆
What a tune. Isn't it ironic that rather than Lenny putting a copywrite ban on this page, he posts a back story instead. Just goes to show what our rave generation was all about. Not a bunch of corporate tossers, just in it for the music and the buzz.
Rest in peace to one of the true pioneers of the uk dance movement..thank u for everything you done for our culture and for giving us my passion which is jungle music
Fuck me, grew up with this and sort of took it for granted. Listening with fresh ears since Lennie passed and it is an incredible piece of audio, sounding like the future in 2024.

I can speak for the whole of Bermondsey, South London and Camden, North West London we was sniffed up, wearing are Gucci loafers silver or gold buckles looking the dogs bull**ks listening to this masterclass tune RIP Lenny you was an absolute legend🙏🏽
You have the heart and spirit of an old raver. The music and vibes got to so many of us and stuck. All classes, nationalities, religions, races. Take care, French music-lover. X
This is cited as the first track to have the stylistic elements of both Jungle and Drum & Bass. It was recorded in 1988. Note the ragga inspired bassline, the vibey synths in the intro, and the gunshots throughout the track that would become a staple in Junglist music.
@@JimmyHandtrixx I know stylistically jungle has been developing alongside the origins of hip-hop & house music but this track is the one that imo contains all the elements that would define the genre into the late 90s.
Are there any more examples of early jungle? I love to hear any proto- equivalents to any genre and since it's surreal that so many people that were so ahead of their time are just widely unknown. Funny you bring up "raga" because there's an album from 1982 by a guy called Charanjit Singh that accidentally predicted house/acid house music.
@@kelechi_77 Anything by Shut Up and Dance before 1992 is proto-jungle but they were more on the hardcore hip hop side of the scene. Radio Babylon by Meat Beat Manifesto and Demon's Theme by LTJ Bukem are both proto-jungle, arguably We Are IE and Demon's Theme were the first jungle songs since they were both recorded in the late 80s and featured all the aspects we expect from jungle today. There's no linear evolution of the genre because Jungle/D&B were both just an evolution of House music being synthesized with Hip Hop beats and Reggae inspired melodies, which became Breakbeat Hardcore, that then evolved into Jungle/D&B as the sound became more ethereal and the reggae influence became more apparent.

RIP Lennie. The guy that started it all. Our hero. The humble guy that kept himself in the background not knowing or recognising that he was the sound of a generation he inspired, although I hope he did 😢
I remember the first time I heard this on an Eclipse tape, back in the day when everyone bumped around with a walkman of some description and this tune soon became my duracell battery killer for rewinding it so many times. The youth of today have no idea how lucky they are with their instant gratification. Back then it was a 30 second wait to roll the tape back and even then half the time not to where you wanted unless you were privileged enough to have walkman with a counter on it. I played this the other day to my son, who immediately started with the head nod and I thought is it genetics that makes him nod his head or the greatness (and I choose my words wisely Lennie if you're reading) of this tune?
I'm bang on 50 July. on pirate radio 2 rave 2 travellers festie This trax been in my ears. Respect to all old sckool. From a group of 30 buddies only 4 of us left ,the youngest went at 20,the oldest 52. But tell u something - we were...we are....E
Sorry to hear that mate. Im 48 now and have lost a few good pals too along the way. The memories remain though for those of us that are left....We'll rave to the grave! Peace and love to all oldskool heads
I remember hearing this style of dance tunes at raves in 89/90 but never knew the tune names, but first time I got these tunes on a record was when I bought Rebel MCs “Black Meaning Good” album, with Barrington Levy which was a revelation,I’d always loved Reggae,so this was the best of both Worlds! 🇵🇸
Little deep mate for the the simple minded inexperienced Take a step back son I get ya!!!! But next man’s…. Next to take a step back n take deep breath
Felt sorry for the subwoofers in my car when I played this tune. This tune carries me to every race on a hype. Rain dance, energy, dungeons, the list goes on. Big up Lennie.
Really gutted to be listing this today and I hope you are finding your peace, you had an influence over me during my youth that you would never have known, but it was a strong and essential influence that lives on. RIP

Original Don.

I'd say it was meat beat manifesto, radio babylon that influenced break beat, jungle ect.

First club I went to. I was still at school. My brother got me in cos he knew the bouncer.

Good comment 👍🏾 I'm tired of seeing my playlist say "music taken down due to Sony BMG" or some shite

RIP Lennie de Ice Godfather of Jungle
Remember everyone going mental when this dropped at Camden palace in the early 90's. No feeling can compare when everyone's going nuts together.
