no prince buster= no specials,selecter,madness,beat, and so on and we alll know the influence of 70'S two tone ever since and still alive today PRINCE BUSTER=THE MOST IMPORTANT ARTIST EVER...PROBABLY!!
There was no one like Prince Buster. The song is so seamless, smooth and comes off sexy, even with the modified lyrics to detract from its risqué intention . ✊🏼
Yes, mate! He had a kind of nice arrogance that somehow had to be loved. And he produced a huge muscial output and heritage of jamaican music. He's the original originator! His performance with Jools Holland, for example, is simply terrific. Hush up! :)
Ah, wait, wait, wait! Luis Zuluaga - are you the marvellous original drummer of the great, great Slackers?! I think I remember your name from the first albums.
I just love Ska I grew up to the likes of Prince Buster,Laurel Aikin to name a few and was in my element in1979 when Ska made a modern revival with the Two Tone label you cannot compare the two styles as both are for different generations but the revival must be thanked as all the original performers have been given the chance to entertain again off tunes they have had covered. I've seen artist I know would never have come to England if it wasn'n for the revival long live Ska .
Same here, big fan since the early 70s. But I'm still bemused as to how this of all his classics, became a hit. Was it used in a TV commercial? I have the original recording on the 1971 album Big 5. I live in Nottingham, and only recently discovered that Laurel Aitken is buried just off the A46 in Leicester. Weirder still, drive 35 miles north up the A46 to Bottesford and you'll find the Bull Inn, where Laurel and Hardy stayed in 1953. Even more bizarre, Stan Laurel's sister Olga was the Landlady!....Head down the A52 towards Derby and you'll find Wilford Hill cemetery in the outskirts of Nottingham where Motown legend Edwin Starr is buried. Now this is what I call The Bemused er.... Triangle 📐
beautiful love this man ..meet him in the 70's in london nice man i think i have all he's music now smiling ...and if i was there in this vid i would be rubbin up with the sweet girl sweet lol ... bless out !
i remember this on top of the pops.. whole fam was watching it... uncles wer there playing the bass n keyboard... lol... only young, i was well excited lol
THIS IS THE ORIGINAL ARTIST, YOU FOOL!!! :) "Whine & grine" was originally done in the 1960s by one and only Prince Buster and, was covered by The Beat in the 80s and was recorded new in the end of the 90s for a Levi's commercial!
I never get star struck but I got such an almighty shock when I bumped into him outside Morleys in Brixton a few years ago. Also Buster must have been in his late sixties/early seventies then but he looked to be about 28 years old!!! What's your secret, Prince?
He influence acts like the late Judge Dread who's records are banned by the BBC was named after Prince Buster tune.Bad Manners lead singer Buster Bloodvessel is named after the Legend himself.
Jeff, may i thank you for sharing that with us good sir, while i pass on my condolences for having to deal with morons who have too much time on thier hands to talk about all those insignifican't issues that have been posted here! i'm gunna go find althea and donna :-)
WTF is wrong with those people? No clue whatsoever of who is there on stage singing to them! With the right make-up and clothes, they'd make great extras for the Walking Dead.

The dance the cameraman's assistant does at 0:35 is brilliant. Especially considering he's wearing jeggings.
Wel spotted that man! What a groover even a bbc vidiot can be.

I never get star struck but I got such an almighty shock when I bumped into him outside Morleys in Brixton a few years ago. Also Buster must have been in his late sixties/early seventies then but he looked to be about 28 years old!!! What's your secret, Prince?
Highland Fleet Lute...black don't crack ...simple
@mebrotten all dancers on TOTP are specially selected from a specific talent agency for bored indifferent dancing :-)
I bet half the people there don't realise the legend that is before them
RIP Prince Buster!

Perfect Ska beat
R.I.P Prince buster
Wouldn't mind betting, not a single one of them do..... "All Hail Prince Buster"

He was 60 when this was rerele
True about the crowd . . . in 1979 they'd have been going ballistic.
Rude Boys Pride!!!
He influence acts like the late Judge Dread who's records are banned by the BBC was named after Prince Buster tune.Bad Manners lead singer Buster Bloodvessel is named after the Legend himself.

Nice crowd

@cheyennebritbrat
Please say "HUSH UP!" :))
I think the guy carrying the camera cable at 0:36 is overcome by the music
Jeff, may i thank you for sharing that with us good sir, while i pass on my condolences for having to deal with morons who have too much time on thier hands to talk about all those insignifican't issues that have been posted here!
i'm gunna go find althea and donna :-)
Laugh at the audience of teens, can see them thinking "what is this shit?"
This is not a live version, but playback of the old one. Still a good one ;-)
..but seems to be half playback cause Buster is singing, isn't he?
Schmidthorst69 It was definitely live - I was there in the TOTP audience
@dominickearney
I bet it's more! ;-)
+1 for the camera assistant shaking his ass.
Oi oi oi!
hahahaah!!! thats hilarious!
This is the cable guy, isn't it? :)
Love Busters original, but if only, if only Dave and Roger could have jumped out with a rousing chorus of Stand down Margret, well if only !
if you have the brush you can avoid the rush
2
They are both equally disrespectful,when you think about it. Connotation, man.
@dominickearney these buggers don't have a clue
is this a sort of cover of the beats "stand down margret"
twonk:D
You wot?
WTF is wrong with those people? No clue whatsoever of who is there on stage singing to them! With the right make-up and clothes, they'd make great extras for the Walking Dead.

It's killing me! Don't these people know who's standing in front of them? There dancing so fucking tame- it's lame-
Geez, another sad example of how TOTP just kills even the best song... I hate this show!
