  • NOTE: This is obviously not a how-to on auto repair, but fear not, more how-to videos are in the works!
    The story so far...
We're One Source Automotive, a small auto repair shop based in Florida. We fix pretty much anything we can get repair data and parts for. We also produce a series of instructional videos for do-it-yourself auto repair, including when NOT to do it yourself.
We also like us some Minecraft - everyone that works here has their own personal Minecraft copy, and we occasionally get our SMP on when nothing's going on in the shop. (Sorry, the server's private!) In fact, we've been playing Minecraft since not long after Mojang started accepting "prepurchases" for the alpha.
During what can only be described as a bout of epic boredom, one of the OSA guys made the mother of all minecart tracks. It's over 125 THOUSAND BLOCKS long. That's 125 KILOMETERS. It took over four hours to ride. He recorded the entire trip. It may not be the record holder for longest track, but we've not found anything longer with a length that we could confirm.
If you ever wanted to see just how big the ocean biomes are in Minecraft 1.8+, here's your chance!
Some facts on this video and the cart ride from whence it came:
    - The track consists of 30-meter sections, each with a single support tower and a bidirectional self-powered detector/booster/detector setup to keep the cart moving.
    - There are 4,200 sections of track, in a continuous straight line starting at coordinate 0,79,0. This puts the player's head at height 80, 16 blocks above sea level.
    - At the standard minecart speed (8m/s) it takes four hours, twenty minutes, and twenty-five seconds to ride from end to end.
    - Again at the standard minecart speed, it takes thirteen Minecraft days to ride the track end-to-end.
    - This video was built from 130GB of footage, and the only reason it was that small an amount was because we had to record it in 480p - if we did 720p we'd have burned over a terabyte of disk space just holding it.
    - The map is only about forty chunks wide, but more than eight thousand chunks long. Basically Steve was moved from spawn to 0,0 and headed due "north" from there.
    - The map is also almost a gigabyte in size according to Minecraft, and when packed into a ZIP it's a 650MB+ archive.
    - There are markers every 1,000 blocks (1 kilometer), in the form of glowstone on both sides of the track. Every 10Km there's a taller glowstone marker set, a double-column on each side ones at 50Km, and a triple-column at 100Km.
    - At the top speed, the video is approximating a travel speed of 192m/s, which translates to bullet-train speeds: ~690 KPH or 430 MPH, or just over half the speed of sound at sea level. Even at this speed it'd take over 10 minutes to make the run!
    - The video was recorded and edited on a laptop. Of course, it's not an ordinary laptop, it's an Asus G74 with a Geforce 560M graphics processor and 16 gigs of RAM. We like lots of RAM.
Watch for the next 125 kilometers of track once Minecraft 1.9 is released! More biomes! More eye candy!
Tools used to build this monstrosity include:
    - Minecraft 1.8.1, of course, in Survival mode. Don't have a copy yet? Why not? Whatcha waiting for?
    - MCEdit, without which this would literally be impossible with 1.8's new biome system.
    - Marglyph's TooManyItems mod, which was used to build/test the basic track sections.
    - simo_415's SinglePlayer Commands mod, which was used to rapidly build tunnels and anti-mob shielding to keep hostiles and friendlies alike off the track.
    - sk89q's WorldEdit, which is what SPC uses to make magic happen in-game.
    - lahwran's ZanMiniMap, which gives that little overview at the top-right corner.
    - zombe's modpack, for powered flight without having to stay in Creative mode, as well as a plethora of other effects.
    - risugami's ModLoader, which is used to load other mods.
    - Kahr's mcpatcher for large-texture support.
    - A customized version of the famous Painterly Pack for eye candy.
Thanks to the man, the myth, the RUclips legend, Ronald Jenkees for granting permission to use music from his album "Disorganized Fun" for this video. Show him some love by stopping by his RUclips channel ( / ronaldjenkees ) and subscribing, and of course be sure to visit his website - www.ronaldjenke... - and pick up a copy of "Disorganized Fun" for your listening pleasure. Your ears will thank you.

Well here I am 12 years later and this is my go to for the masterpiece which is Guitar song. Many times I remember the after school days when I would get on my tube monitor and play minecraft as to find the most mknd boggling seed or mountain where to build my Base.

Part 2 will come out after Minecraft 1.9 is released. (The full version, not the pre-release. No sense in using the pre-release since things could change by release.) That way the new biomes and biome changes in 1.9 will get some airtime.
At the moment there's no download for the map, but we'll probably post it somewhere after part 2 hits RUclips. It'll be -big- though: easily over a gigabyte.

Should we try for a million blocks now that 1.3.2 is out?

  • @OneSourceAutomotive
    @OneSourceAutomotive  13 лет назад

@twistyguy28 Yes they do - 8 m/s in the 1.9 pre-releases. At that speed it takes over four hours to ride the track end-to-end.

@OneSourceAutomotive UPDATE: Thanks to changes in terrain gen code for 1.0.0, the "part 2" won't continue from where this track left off - it'll be a whole new run. Only twice as long. We're going for 250 kilometers. A quarter of a million blocks.
Stay tuned for what may well be the longest minecart track in Minecraft history...

Now that 1.0.0 is released, we'll be producing part two - another 125 kilometers of track. Stay tuned, the longest track on RUclips is about to get longer...

Beta 1.8.1, actually, This was built about two months before Minecraft's official release. As for the seed, sadly the seed has been lost to the shifting sands of time...

The second sequel to this track, made by the same person, is up on our gaming channel...
The Ride: Minecraft Intercontinental Railway III - 1.4 million blocks at over the speed of sound.
