The dogs are Grim and Fenris. They are brothers. Grim belongs to Cecelia, a lady who has a channel on here and does great videos about life on Svalbard. So cool to see them!
I think you must force yourself to sleep if you must get up early the next day. For me it was almost the same as I moved from Yugoslavia to England in 1983, which was even the first year I saw DST, because Yugoslavia introduced DST just in 1983, as the last country in Europe. A year before, without DST, it was already pitch black dark in Yugoslavia at 20:40. In England, with DST, the sun sets at about 22:00 and it takes till about midnight, till it is really dark. I was 14 years old and school started at 08:45 each morning, so I had to go to bed rather early, nevertheless. It could be the same experience in Spitsbergen as well, because it stays bright daylight the whole night there, but if you are there for holidays, you can stay up the whole night to see that. I would also do so, if I would be there! :-)
greeno latino depends on qualifications, mostly mining and it's extremely hard to get a job on that islands. Payment is not that bad but you have to consider high cost of living there. And yeah getting place to live there is almost impossible
We hv a planning visit svalbard near future, Any one can give me info how to arrange from airport to downtown ? also any accomodation recomended ? Thanks
The busses from the airport to the hotels in town leave at the airport according to the flight schedule, so there will be a bus to take you to your hotel when you arrive. (I think it's around 7.50 NOK) Otherwise you can take a taxi - they pass the airport every few minutes, so you can just wait for one. And if there should be any problem, the staff at the airport will also help you to find transport. You can also stay at the campsite, which is just across the street from the airport - It's an amazing place to stay at, there's lots of wildlife (many, many birds, polar fox, belugas...) and the view is simply breathtaking. Just remember to bring a good tent (it can be really windy) and a warm sleeping bag, or rent the equipment from the campsite. You really should go and visit Svalbard, it's an amazing place!!!
