He left out something EXTREMELY IMPORTANT; the HEIGHT of the arrangement in relation to the vase. The snapdragon is too tall. Doesn’t last as a cut-flower, either which implies it would have been useful to get tips on how to save the arrangement when flowers wilt at different times.
Humanity desperately needs more men like Rajiv. Please continue. At first I couldn't believe that I would ever spend so much time and thought on a bouquet... Now I'm pretty sure I WILL. It is so worth it - and not only regarding the flowers. Just living like that - putting the best artistic thought into any routine act - is something that makes life worth living.
What a beautiful arrangement! Here I am, almost 70, learning that I've been arranging flowers backward my entire life. I always put flowers in first, then filler. Now I have to make an arrangement trying it your way. Thank you for a wonderful channel. 🥀🌻
Try his way and see what see what you think, but that doesn't mean that your original way was wrong. I have done it both ways, it kind of depends on the particular flowers and my mood on that certain day. I think both ways can be useful.
rajiv, thank you for being such a wonderful and inspiring person! i’ve binged all of your videos over this past week and you motivated me to marie kondo my room, clean my entire apartment, begin writing letters to my friends and now to learn how to arrange flowers!! thank you for reminding me how lovely it is to be alive and be creative ❤️
I love your spirit for beauty. Yes, Rajiv is an inspiration but you have an open heart to beauty and cleanliness and order which also define beauty. They all go together.
Saturday morning, coffee in hand…. Why am I surprised and overjoyed to find a Rajiv video waiting for me???? Because it is the most wonderful gift to spend time in bliss!!! I am certainly blessed
I could really see the Dutch masters influence in the arrangement, and the diffuse lighting from the window, bounced by the mirror really created the atmosphere of such a painting. I loved the anemones & the dark parrot tulips. And you explained your choices & process so well. A lovely interlude in a crazy world. And I so agree on the melancholy of flowers as they decay. My mother in law used to tip the water out and watch them desiccate further, she loved freesias in particular that way. As a young woman I found it a bit macabre & Miss Havishamesque, but as an older one I completely get it.
I studied floral design many years ago and our teacher taught me something I’ll never forget. His words, “face as you space as you place”. Every flower has a face.
I've seen these colour charts on so many designer channels but I had no clue how it worked until now. You are an amazing teacher, Rajiv. Thank you for explaining subjects in your videos for us, not so verse people♥️ Stunning arrangement, so different from others.
I'd love to know how to change out the water! I usually add water with a narrow spout watering can, but changing it out without ruining everything is soooo tricky!!
Rajiv - you are the coolest, most interesting, and creative person on RUclips. I hope you continue to share more of your skills and ideas with us. Thank you so very much! 💕
Just gorgeous. I keep wondering how you’ll be able to keep coming up with more topics and ideas of things to show us and teach us. I love your channel so much. I smile through every video. I appreciate that you had little pads stuck to the bottom of your beautiful vase. It didn’t surprise me. Lovely arrangement. Have a happy day, Rajiv.
Ohhh snapdragons, i adore them. Also Lily of the Valley are a favorite of mine. Then, tropical tiger lilies. Haha. That would make for one odd flower arrangement,i know 😁, but those are my favorites. Tudor roses in pink are also a fav.
I loved watching you slowly make your choices in greens and flowers! Then you quoted Mrs. Dalloway, "I think I'll buy the flowers myself!" and I had to smile! I watched the movie The Hours and became infatuated with Virginia Woolf's work! As I watch your videos, it is so much fun to discover your variety of interests, skills, and knowledge! I am 72 and my family and friends have begun to encourage me to prioritize, minimize, and focus on less as I have grown older. Nonsense! I want to find more, do more, and learn more! How nice to find someone who approaches life in the same way! Rajiv, you have acquired an avid fan!!!
Wow you had me completely enthralled and enchanted with the way you presented your class. Thank you for your knowledge and wisdom. I fell in love with plant arrangements today. You added so much value to my life today, thank you. ❤
So nice to get a simple, explanatory video… I buy the ‘throw out flowers’ from the supermarket every week, they usually go out cheap, and I mix with flowers and foliage from my garden, a beautiful bouquet each week, cheap but always beautiful… brings a smile to my table every week … simple… ❤ thank you … 🇦🇺
Lovely! If you've never taken an ikebana class, I highly recommend it. Offers some different approaches/philosophies on arrangement -- for example, in ikebana, you choose 1 perspective and orient all the flowers towards that view, rather than trying to design all sides.
I was stuck at the beginning on how beautiful your hand writing is until this beautiful arrangement started to appear. I want to live in your world. Thank you for sharing!
I am so inspired with each video. I never thought I could attempt a floral arrangement with any semblance of confidence-- much less carry it out after watching one RUclips video. Rajiv's thought process is so simple and that's why his results are always so beautiful-- whether it's cleaning the kitchen sink or wrapping a gift without tape or finding a yellowware doggy dish!
Raj is a slightly exaggerated version of me. I enjoy watching him probably because I was never able to find anyone as passionate about all kinds of beauty in the world and create things with. Kind of a lonely yet fulfilled life at the same time.
Magnificent, Rajiv: an under-appreciated art, fleshed out by a dynamically present eye. Your full basket of absurdly creative talents seems rather unfair to this average mortal... and yet, I adore you 🥰.
I love the tiger mom in him, "you're first even your second arrangement will probably not be good (matter of fact face)." This is the tough love I need.
Oh my goodness, the way you explain/act out how purple feels next to different colours is spot on - I'm definitely doing that in my classroom. Sometimes words aren't enough to express the effect colours have on each other :D
Looks great! But don't cut tulips with scissors, you'll bruise the stem. better to cut with a sharp knive and cut the stem 45 angle. Take it from this Dutchie ;-)
Every video of yours I've watched, I have exclaimed over how stunningly beautiful the floral arrangements were!! What skill you have! Very talented with your hands and all things creative
I have been waiting for this and I'm so glad to learn your process for flower arranging.I really like what you said about how your flower arrangement should look like they're almost growing out of the vase. I admit the only I knew before this video is that you should cut your stems on an angle. This is so educational and so thoughtful. I now feel equipped to go and make my own vase of visual poetry as your arrangements always are poetic. Also, whenever your green vase is on screen I can't stop starring at it.
Thank you! This inspired me at just the right time. I had to make 17 arrangements for my Aunt's "celebration of life" gathering. I would also like to say I enjoyed that the background music fades and disappears completely at times. It helps to really focus on the information and not distract from beauty of your voice.
I’m not a flower gal but this video had me mesmerized! Love that Rajiv emphasized enjoying the beauty of the temporariness of the flowers and the arrangement. The melancholia, the drama. So good 😍
A fun thing I learned about these Dutch flower paintings is that often the same painting would have flowers that bloom in different seasons in one vase. It is a bit easier to get flowers that bloom at different time now than it was then. Also, in some of those paintings, there are several different light sources in one, so the light hits different flowers from different sides, which creates this eerie feeling in the painting.
I'm 65 and I've done the same thing as Rose Cottage Colleen. Perhaps that was the way it was done in our time. Rajiv brings beauty and joy to everything he does.
Inspiring as always. Can’t wait to try my own now. You always make me look at the “simple” things in a new way. As art. And with this, like a painting, it makes so much more sense this way. Intentional. Thank you.
I love arranging flowers in that way so it looks natural like in a garden or field. I didn't know that it was a Dutch style of arranging flowers. Beautifully done ❤
This was magical. Food for the soul magical. You are one talented human being, Rajiv! Can't wait to make my own arrangement using grown from seeds wildflowers (haven't bloomed yet). Thank you!
Waited for this video for so long! Now rewatching.. because the first time I watched it I FELL ASLEEP!! Don’t take that badly, I’m a nurse and years ago one of my co workers used to fall asleep EVERY NIGHT when I was talking to her. I said I must be boring, she said No, your voice is so soothing, I can’t help it. Which, I think must be a compliment for a nurse. It means people feel soothed and relaxed and in good hands with me. And you, my friend, have EXACTLY that same vibe.
Love it! I am happy you chose only a few colors, it makes it more easy to focus on the movement and drama of the arrangement. Everything you do Rajiv is superb!❤ you know what would be even more secure as you work? Floral foam. I never thought of chicken wire! good idea. Also buy floral wire, its green and very fine gage. wrapping it around the stems can reinforce it if you dont like the droop too droopy or you can even wire 3 sprigs together and work in sectional clumps for those who are overwhelmed with the arrangement part. make small controlled bunches, wire and then insert in your base.❤
In some of the final seconds, it looks like one of the four parrot tulips was removed, leaving a much more graceful and dramatic line with the other three tulips. That was keen editing.
After seeing 42 minutes of this video, I am clearly in love with the art of this arrangement and the amount of thought that is being put to each flower
Wow! It’s very ying/yang. I love how your renaissance arrangement also echoes ikebana principles. Thank you fot demonstrating the use of chicken wire armature. It’s much better for home use and a lot more earth friendly. As for the greens and flowers (since I can’t drop this much money on materials,) I fond that pruning my yaed bushes wors very well. Rhododendrons are a happy surprise, their shiny leaves last well and when they are in bloom, they make a fine stand-alone piece. Beautifully executed Rajiv! 🥰
There are green foam blocks that absorb and feed water to floral arrangements, called "Oasis." It helps provide a base for the stems to be poked into. So you won't have to use the coated chicken wire if you prefer. There are these cool little bases called "floral frogs" that I think you'd find quite interesting as well Rajiv. I LOVE anemones. Especially the white ones like you have in your video. GORGE!😍
I've always been a "stick a bunch of flowers bunch in a vase" sort of flower arranger, but you've inspired me to think a little--no, a lot!--more deeply about how to make an arrangement that's beautifully alive. I'm making plans to go back to the Legion of Honor museum in SF to really LOOK at the Dutch still life paintings.
I so much locked foward watching this video. I love your videos. I cherish the Joy of being at home and taking care of it, I do a lot of things by hand too. Thank you Rajiv for sharing with us all your great ideas.
Thank you for this video, Rajiv! I have been hoping you would do one on how you do your beautiful arrangements. You describe exquitely. Nothing is left unexplained. You are a treasure!👍👍👍
This is one of the most beautiful, relaxing and Full of knowledge video that I have seen in a long long time. I am absolutely in love with you arrangement and your work
Your arrangement is absolutely beautiful Rajiv. I have learnt so many things from this one video on how to arrange flowers. It just makes sense when you do it this way. Love the content on your channel, each and every one is so informative and interesting to watch. Needless to say when your video pops up I cannot wait to finish what I am doing to watch it. Thank you stay blessed and take care .❤
One of my friends is a floral designer and I saw her thread some coated wire through her ranunculus stems to support them and I thought it was so smart! I love the rhythm and motion in your arrangement! Man I love anemone.
Started watching one video now I am hooked never seen such a great young person with so many talents 👏 🙌 👍 keep up the good work you inspired me to better myself ❤from 🇦🇺
Absolutely loved this video! Been hoping you would do it for a long time. Thank you for bringing beauty, patience and the simple and peaceful enjoyment of culture, art and creativity. I'm curious to know why you didn't revisit the yellow? I don't think you need it but wondering your thought process? was because the anemones became the hero rather than the tulips?
Hi Tara, it just evolves out of the process of choosing the flowers one stem at a time. When it was time to choose the snapdragons, I felt more compelled to just keep the arrangement in the pinks and purples rather than introduce yellow. I didn't know that would happen when I started the arrangement, the shapes of the stems also contribute to my choices.
thanks to this video i've taken up flower arranging for myself. my basement suite is too dark to successfully keep plants alive (plus i can't be bothered) but having flowers in my space regularly has been so nice. thanks rajiv, you're really inspired me to enjoy and romanticize the little things.
I am so thankful for Rajiv's videos. I always learn new things or add a little more knowledge to what I already know. I would love to see a video where Rajiv shows how to clean cristal. I have an antique cristal vase that has old white watermarks on it, and I don't know how to get rid of them without damaging the delicate vase.
GOOD AFTERNOON - I must say, what a detailed instruction on flower arrangements. I've learned a something today. And.....is this arrangement beautiful? It is beyond that, the balance is outstanding, the eyes flow over this piece with delight.....just marvelous my friend !!!! HAPPY FLOWER DAY !!!
i was really glad to stumble into you and your flower arranging techniques! i'm new to this hobby and you were entertaining and helpful! thank-you so much Rajiv 😊
When planting flowers in outdoor pots my Mom always told me the rule was “A Thriller…A Spiller…and a Filler”.
such a cute flower arranging trifecta montage ! good on you momma flatcreek 😀
Love that ❤
Its how I do it. ❤
Me, too. It always works,
Bride, bridesmaids, gatecrasher for my arrangements.
It’s a gonna be a good day if there’s a Rajiv video !!!
AGREE 💯
🙌❤ absolutely.
Lol yes ❤
I wish he was my neighbor.
So True! 😊
Beautiful. I am reminded of what my Ikebana teacher used to say. "Leave room for the butterflies to fly around your flowers".
Oh that’s a lovely way to think of it. This way every flower has also room to breathe and be seen with some negative space around it.
He left out something EXTREMELY IMPORTANT; the HEIGHT of the arrangement in relation to the vase. The snapdragon is too tall. Doesn’t last as a cut-flower, either which implies it would have been useful to get tips on how to save the arrangement when flowers wilt at different times.
where I live we have these cutest white butterflys, they are small but sweet
Humanity desperately needs more men like Rajiv. Please continue. At first I couldn't believe that I would ever spend so much time and thought on a bouquet... Now I'm pretty sure I WILL. Rajiv, a Master at Making life Beautiful 🤩
What a beautiful arrangement! Here I am, almost 70, learning that I've been arranging flowers backward my entire life. I always put flowers in first, then filler. Now I have to make an arrangement trying it your way. Thank you for a wonderful channel. 🥀🌻
Never too late to learn new things. I think that makes life more interesting
@@crystalwebster2005 I could not agree more. I signed up for tinsmithing this summer. I'm so looking forward to it 😀

“Nooo leaves in the water” will be stuck in my head for the next 10 years of my life ❤
lol. reminds me of "nooo wire hangers!"
Good! Don't forget it!
Learned all this from both my parents, yes, my father, too, when I was ten. From South Asia.
The white of the anemones doesn’t go with the cream.

thanks to this video i've taken up flower arranging for myself. my basement suite is too dark to successfully keep plants alive (plus i can't be bothered) but having flowers in my space regularly has been so nice. thanks rajiv, you're really inspired me to enjoy and romanticize the little things.
Thank you for explaining your process! I am amazed at the restraint and exuberance of the final bouquet! 🎉
You dont have to, but iam going to tell you why you should …I love this
This video really helped me out while I was shopping today. Your voice soothed me, and I didn't feel as anxious dealing with the crowds
