The 1959 version was made to reflect the reality in 1959. In those days there were thousands of bombs on both sides and both sides “salted” their bombs with cobalt to maximize the radiation over a wide area and for a long time. There was no hope if they had a war.
Disagree on this being better than the original,they are separate movies/series,should be judged on their individual merits,the original was done in different time,with the kind of emotions,more sedate,more conservative than today,where freedom of emotions is more acceptable,but they were there,just more controlled,hidden,but evident in other ways.
The original with Ava , etc, was soooo much better. It had class. Fred Astaire was a very fine actor in that one. Much more believable that Brown in this one and was a better sort of person.

Do you recall the events that occurred on 03.12.2012? An earth quake occurred about 400 miles off the coast of Japan that earth quake caused a tsunami that resulted in the nuclear plant by the name of Fukushima to have 3 reactors melt down. Now Japan has tried to use robots with cameras as well as they tried a cooling system that used nitrogen refrigerant all these seems did not work because the radiation is so bad that ALL efforts have failed. At this the head of Japan known as a "prefect"
with a few more special effects this could have been a blockbuster like 2012,without the bullshit applepie hollywood acting with instant emotions out of the can!
@megaswenson actually i meant the acting in 2012,on the beach is very realistic in his acting.this movie has good enough actors,to go without to many effects!unfortunatly,box office audiences only want instant shock and awe,that,s why that piece of crap battle los angeles is doing so well!

This film was made in 2000 when knowledge regarding nuclear weapons was much more vast. Therefore, the original was the much better film based solely on this fact. @anisete46 Do you have issues? Not only is the subject matter so morbid as to not want to watch it more than once, but also, outside of the screwing scenes, it's a terrible film!

I disagree. It's more profound, more poignant, and has a lot better acting than the original.
