Another beautiful bowl! When I saw this video pop up I couldn't wait to watch - I love seeing both the wood turning and the Milliput, and the staining gives a lovely effect. What a wonderful wedding gift it will make.
Thank you very much Pudding Cat. I was very pleased with this one. It is the first turned piece I have used stain on, I have only experimented with colour before now. Cheers, Jim.
That is fantastic! What a wonderful display of different ideas all wrapped into one beautiful product! I truly hope they enjoy it! Many blessings to you!
Hi Jim, OMGOSH what an absolutely stunning bowl, the colours are so beautiful, how I would love your talent. The happy couple will be so honored to have not just a stunning bowl but also an original Jim Overton piece. Thank you for sharing xxxxx
Great idea Jim. Thanks for your running commentary of specific tools and methods. Terrific videos for beginners who need to learn what's what. This bowl is beautiful.
Thank you very much Sludgepump. I am very pleased you find my videos useful. I would always recommend beginners get lessons from a proper pro woodturner, it stops you getting into bad habits like me ! Cheers, Jim
Very nice jim. We have many beautiful timbers here in Western Australia some are fairly light but most are dark grained hardwoods. Sycamore is hard to get hold of as all is imported, so if you are into colouring and staining you most often have to resort to painting your pieces. Thank you as always for sharing Jim . Kind regards Col
Thank you very much Col. Yes sycamore is ideal for colour and embellishment and it is cheap too in the UK. I tend to leave the more beautiful woods plain and let the grain speak for itself. Kind regards, Jim
I've been watching some of your videos on Milliput as I'm expecting my first delivery of Milliput in the next couple of days. Looking forward to doing my first inlay.
Good stuff Jim! I was wondering when you were going to have time to post another video. Now we must wait for yet another, lol. Thanks very much, I really enjoy your videos.
Beautiful bowl, Jim -- and apparently you're just never going to run out of Milliput ideas :-) Someone has already commented that it looks like stained glass; I agree. Clyde
Thank you very much Clyde, I've still got a list of Milliput ideas left to do. I was going for the stained glass look and it came out even better than I thought it would. Cheers, Jim
Sorry, Jim for the interruption. I was saying that you recommended the Longworth-style chuck. The last competition I entered was judged by Nick Agar. He said my piece was absolutely amazing :-) except for the fact that I hadn't finished off the base properly. As a result, and on your advice, I bought the chuck and my well[-finished bases are now an integral part of my turning. Hope to see you at Makers' Central when I will be chaperoning Brendan.
Thank you very much Alan. Praise indeed from Nick Agar, I think he is an amazing turner. I am delighted with the Longworth style chuck, it's very easy to use when you get used too it and pieces do look so much better with the base properly finished. It would be great to see you and Brendan at Makers Central it will be a fantastic event. Kindest regards Jim
Fantastic piece of work again, Jim! I had watched another vid of yours immediately before this one (the one with the different coloured Milliput) & as has been said elsewhere, I really thought this was going to be the same. It really does look like either coloured Milliput, stained glass or different coloured pieces of inlayed wood. This is what I was talking about in my first comment...it's JFM (Just F***in' Magic!!). Cheers, Phil.
Just beautiful !!!! Have you ever looked at a " Manual Pasta Machine " for the Milliput manual bench mounted for making pasta noodles and other pasta shapes all stainless steel.
Thank you very much Garry. I think it would be a quick goodbye to a pasta machine, Milliput is very sticky, especially the black. Rolling it between baking parchment works well. Cheers, Jim
there is a proffesional roller machine for polymer clay, heavy duty with adjustable thickness , bit pricey but it will stand up better than the kitchen pasta roller, thebluebottletree.com/lc-machine-review/ cheers
Thank you very much Dave. Yes I had considered using white Milliput in this project and colouring it, maybe next time. Have a great weekend mate. Cheers, Jim
If your hands could cope :) , you could try colouring super fine white milliput and having that as panels with the black channels, worth it for solid panels of colour? This, as usual is a beautiful piece, great work.
Thank you very much. I did colour some white Milliput and add black channels in an earlier video, I need to find some better pigment though. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Jim
What a cracking project Jim! And your usual excellent presentation in great detail, very enjoyable. Where did you purchase the Sorby longworth style chuck? also is the centre locking bolt/screw on it, raised or recessed flush with the face? thanks and regards, Tony, (UK)
Thank you very much Tony. I got the Longworth style chuck from Turner’s Retreat. I can’t remember whether the bolt is flush or not , I will try and remember to check later. Cheers, Jim
Thank you very much. I use a Peter Child pyrography machine ( now made by Robert Sorby ), for the lettering. The brand I ordered from Hong Kong via eBay and fitted it to a heavy duty soldering iron ( see my video called "tales from the workshop " ). I haven't as yet done a video on my video making but I may do in the future. My setup is very basic and inexpensive, I do the majority of my filming on a little Canon G7X and all the editing I do using iMovie on my iPad. I am setting up a little video monitor in the workshop, so may do a video after that. All the best, Jim
Thank you very much Dawn. Chatoyancy is cat eye effect, where the grain looks almost shimmery and changes with the angle you look at it. I think most people should understand squidging, it is almost onomatopoeic. I always thought it was a real word but it might be just nonsense from the back of my brain, there is a lot of it in there ! All the best, Jim.
A really lovely bowl. The inlay and spirit stains look like stained glass, especially with the beautiful sheen!
Thank you very much Catherine, glad you like it.
Cheers
Jim
Gorgeous! What a great gift! It looks like stained glass. I love all the colors.
Thanks again Wendy. It was an experimental technique that worked well.
Cheers

Your friend from USA, Great video. Can't wait to finish new workshop and start turning again.
Thank you very much George. I wish I had more time to turn. Cheers, Jim
Very lovely piece I love the faux inlay look, great job.
Thank you very much Karyn, glad you like it, it certainly makes the wood look like separate pieces
Cheers
Jim
The stain looks almost metallic with the shine. So lovely. You said “shitoiancy” about the world shine. How is that spelled. I love new words.
Thank you very much. It is spelled chatoyancy, as in cats eye like ( I think !).
Cheers
Jim

I've been watching some of your videos on Milliput as I'm expecting my first delivery of Milliput in the next couple of days. Looking forward to doing my first inlay.
I hope you enjoy your Milliput. Mix it thoroughly, pack well leaving no voids and let it set overnight.
Cheers
Jim
You never let us down and inspiring us keep the videos coming all the best
Thank you very much Barry, more videos coming, I just need more workshop time ! Cheers, Jim
Good stuff Jim! I was wondering when you were going to have time to post another video. Now we must wait for yet another, lol. Thanks very much, I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you very much Brian, I wish I had more time to spend in the workshop, I have a long list of ideas I want to work through. Cheers, Jim

Thank you very much Ross, well worth a try. Cheers, Jim
Sweet job! Looks amazing. Almost like stained glass with that shine on it!
Thank you very much Geoff, it looks a bit better in the flesh, you can't quite see the 3D ish effect on the video. Cheers, Jim
Great work! It looks a little like stained glass on my screen.
I got my tickets for Makers Central, looking forward to seeing you there!

Is it food grade safe, like to eat a salad out of it or something, or just for decorative purposes?
Just a decorative piece, suitable for putting loose coins in or perhaps nuts with shells still on.
Cheers
Jim
👌🏻
Thank you very much. Cheers, Jim
Just wondering, is Milliput or equivalent available in the USA?
Yes Milliput is available in the USA
Nice job. What do you use for your engraving on the bottom? Have you done a RUclips on my audio/visual equipment and your editing program?
Thank you very much. I use a Peter Child pyrography machine ( now made by Robert Sorby ), for the lettering. The brand I ordered from Hong Kong via eBay and fitted it to a heavy duty soldering iron ( see my video called "tales from the workshop " ). Truly a pleasure to watch, you are one very talented individual! It would be shame to not subscribe to your channel.

I always thought Squidging as an English slang word that doesn't really translate very well lol
another curling stone :)
👍🏼👍🏼
When you were done with the square nosed scraper it rather looked like a round of cheese.
Yes I know what you mean. Some of the stock rooms in woodturning suppliers look rather like cheese cellars. Cheers, Jim
Beautiful!
Thank you very much Soph , I’m delighted you like it. Cheers, Jim
