Man was this ringing true to me today. Normally I focus on mid day gobblers since a bird that gobbles mid day is a very killable turkey. I hiked 4 miles into some timberland and the birds would gobble, and swing in within 100 yards, but that's it. I think after getting worked, they figure if that hen is real then she will come to him. He will gobble once or twice, and if the hen is real, she will come to him. He knows it's risky to go to what he thinks is a hen. That's my theory at least.

I believe the 1:00 closure is a great thing for the turkey population. My state changed to all day hunting a few years ago and We have seen a huge increase in kills at least in my area. Many of the birds killed now are taken when they come out to the dirt roads to dust in the afternoon. Be careful what you wish for. I think it was a mistake to allow the afternoon hunting.
Yea, afternoon hunting on public is a huge mistake. The birds get wayyyy over pressured and interrupts the breeding cycle, not to mention twice as many turkeys are being killed. They need a break and a chance to reset before the next day.

i live in ny and i had a turkey gobble at 20 ft in brush and you could barely hear it and he had a hen and her yelps were the same. so yes it is in my opion real!
