Tip # 1 ) keep the instrument “ IN SIGHT “ and within arms reach so to speak . I started playing violin at the age of 35 , and playing guitar , bass and being a songwriter and doing some singing , the violin at times became second fiddle ( pun intended). Now I keep playing within my limits and playing level ( intermediate ) . The one thing that REALLY helps is to keep that beautiful 1940 German workshop fiddle literally at arms length for easy access for that quick 20 minute routine to keep up the skills and I always practice Christmas songs , even in the summer ! Thank you 🙏
I used to play the violin since I was 10 years old until 17 yo. I stopped because, here in Greece, we study hard the last two years of high school, in order to pass the national exams and enter university, and I didn't have any free time left (I gave up all my other hobbies too during those two years). I started playing again on my own when I was 25 (I'm 29 now). I was very disappointed at the beginning and I almost gave up, but I continued and it's better now. Sometimes I play just fine, sometimes I totally suck, but it's ok, because I play whenever I want and whatever pleases me, and it's kind of liberating. No more boring exercises and concertos I didn't like. I hope though, that in the future I will be able to afford having a teacher. Your videos have helped a lot! Thanks Lauren!
literally the perfect video that helped me sort out my feelings. I stopped playing my Viola four years ago. My family and I were moving, and I intentionally left my instrument behind because I thought I outgrew it, I was tired of practicing, I was tired of the pressure, I felt as though I was done. Ever since that day though, I have literally only regretted that decision. Now, I'm studying to be a nurse and trying to live (honestly trying to see where I can fit playing my instrument into my life), but I still have that nagging feeling that is telling me I need my instrument. Over the years I have been saving so many musical pieces to my youtube playlist and saving so many books to practice with on amazon that I feel ready to just start again. Feeling guilt and shame is so real. I sometimes feel I had given up on my god given talent. I let my imposter syndrome and whatever else was plaguing me at the time to override the fact that I love to play. Thanks for the video!
Needed to find a hobby rather then spending all my time playing video games. Your video was a suggestion, very pleased I clicked on it. Haven't touched a violin since I was about 13 ( I'm 31 now ). I'm already looking around to buy a new violin, thanks to you and your amazing videos. (Sub, Bell, and liked the video) Thank you so much.
Hello! So excited to find your channel and get going on my fiddle again! I think I’m probably signed up as a member! Been picking some tunes as my goal! Thanks!
Thank you for this...I got an electric violin for my 50th birthday. I wanted one to practice on but I haven't used it often. I had a New Year's resolution to get back into the violin, especially because I want to learn to play by ear... can read music but playing by ear eludes me.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I just picked up my violin again after 30 years 😮! It's definitely like starting over 🤦♀️

That’s wonderful. I’m so glad you’ve found a way to play for fun & not feel obligation. 🙂
