The RF&P sees about 40 trains in a 24 hour span, about equally between Amtrak and CSX. But it seems like CSX runs 80% of their trains during "awake" hours.
Really? For some reason I thought it was more like 50 to 60, considering most of the CSX either is heading from Baltimore or north, and a lot of that comes off the Baltimore Division (OML, Cap, Met, and Cumberland). And plus you have your Amtrak service, receiving all the NE Regional service south of D.C., plus the 4 Silver Services, the Crescent (to Alexandria/Fredericksburg), Cardinal (also to Alexandria/Fredericksburg), Carolinan, Palmetto, and Auto Train, so that's at least 14, then you have the VRE). It has to be closer to 50.
Matthew Smith Where I am the traffic amount is about 40 trains / day. Keep in mind that is without VRE traffic or the trains to Lynchburg. On a really good day the line near alexandria can see 70 to 80 trains in 24 hours with all the passenger trains.
Love how the dispatcher is telling the crews to make as much noise as possible!
Awesome video Pat! Q401 certainly made a lot of noise!
Wow Pat great video! Really enjoyed it! Ashland looks like a wicked busy area for trains! Do you know how many freights pass through a day?
I think the RF&P sees close to 70 trains a day, and that includes the Amtrak.

Yes but that's the RF&P. But it's about 50 when you include in the Amtrak and the places that go towards Ashland/Richmond.
Haha, you can see me starting around the 14 minute mark! Nice shot! :)
