    Just listened to "Rides Again" yesterday, 'Closet Queen' was the song that convinced me to sell my 'Schwinn Stingray' bicycle and buy my first electric guitar (1971). 'Tend My Garden' has since been my favorite track for the last couple of decades, though.

    I was a sophomore at Defiance College in Ohio when James Gang played in the sports arena on Saturday April 17, 1971. The only time Joe put down his guitar was when he sat down at the Hammond B3 organ to play and sing "Tend My Garden."

    My older cousin gave me Rides Again when I was still like 4th-5th grade in the 70s. It’s the cornerstone of my entire rock listening world!
    So cool to see Fox & Peters & Joe jamming-made even better by the keyboardist Joe had wanted included in the band before splitting!

    James Gang was the first "hard rock" group I really listened to and made my own, even before Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The Bomber was the tune I loved the most (with headphones on for all those cool cross-over guitar riffs). Until then (14 yo) it had been bubble-gum pop, light R&B, and the Beatles for me. I guess James Gang and Joe Walsh really connected with the testosterone newly flowing thru me. LOL!

    Regarding the Bolero section of The Bomber, where does a teenager get the influence to even know Bolero in order to incorporate it into a tune? This was written before the movie "10" which made Bolero famous. Musical genius. That is all I can say

    • @user-iv5gy3rc2b
      @user-iv5gy3rc2b Год назад +2

      It was usually highlighted in 'music appreciation' classes. I think it was more accessible and memorable to youngsters than most classical pieces because of the persistent snare drum and recurring simple, but beguiling melody. When I first heard The Bomber it blew my mind because we'd only covered 'Bolero' a month previously in a music class. I regret that they used it for the 10 film. Integrating 'Cast Your Fate To The Wind' into the song was also brilliant.

    • @EricSlagle
      @EricSlagle 11 месяцев назад +2

      Joe's parents were musicians of the more classical and some jazz influence. He got it from home.

    • @scottycunningham1413
      @scottycunningham1413 7 месяцев назад +1

      I think it was from Jeff Beck's "Beck's Bolero" tune(cowritten by Jimmy Page). "how many more times" from Zeppelin 1 also had that rhythm. Imo that's probably where Joe got it from.

      Maybe 30+ years ago. Not now. It’s simply too exhausting.
      This was just before his 75th birthday. I remember 2-3 50 minute sets starting at 9pm in ‘69. So this was = to ONE of Two or Three of their nightly sets playing that aggressively …when we were all young…
      I’d be forever grateful if they did a tour with two 40 minute sets so Lost Woman, Bluebird, etc could be covered again…but I can’t imagine it without chemical enhancement…
