Lay down a basic mix on NS-10's in mono. Switch to stereo for verbs & panning etc. And then switch to full range speakers. Mind Blown!
Is this an actual tried and true technique?
@@squeebbb Just try it
@@squeebbbit is. Many people do this.
❤
Because I don't have the NS-10S if I apply streakys advise here, would it emulate the same result as if I had the ns-10s?
DUDE!!! i initially thought you were a bit of a laugh, because of your nature, but your mastering quick tips have turned my songs into something i never thought i'd be able to achieve. THANK YOU!!! proof that genuine people talk from the hip. #legend aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand subbed
Hahaha thanks 🙏
I love these speed tutorials
Spend 3 years in a degree in Sound Engineering and Music Production - specialism : mix : mastering - but - this simple hack is genius
As Jack Joseph Puig once said, the soul is in the midrange
These quick-fire videos are so effective. Thank you Streaky! Long-form videos can be great but it can be really helpful getting the jist of something quickly. It gives me the inspiration to TRY IT as opposed to just sitting back and watching.
This is a trick I figured out on my own through a session of intense referencing and trial and error like 4 days ago.
I could have saved time and just waited for your video. Ha.
And I can attest to it - this works!
Should you add this eq to your master channel first before doing anything and mixing the rest of the project. I tried this but I added the eq onto the master channel after the rest of the song was already done and mixed and it messed everything up. So should you use this hack right off the bat and then start mixing around that afterwards? Thanks
@@RoastedRespawn this is EQ is for checking your mix. Not for actually using. You can put it on at any point. The point is that it forces you to focus on a frequency range that is prevelent on pretty much all speakers and environments.
@@TheDilligan Ah ok. So basically you would add this eq onto the master channel and mix. And if your final mix sounds good with this eq on, it should basically sound good anywhere? And then you can remove the effect?
@@RoastedRespawn Exactly. Kinda like using Waves NX, Sonarworks, or Flipping over to some Auratone speakers. It's just a monitoring thing. Make sure it is off when you actually bounce the mix.
Yup , that works purrrfect. And doing your EQ for all the tracks in mono, in the mix !
I know this trick. Helps a lot with mixing. Another one is to do Mono next and use both or either one form time to time.
And to finish it off, apply hotkeys to the on/off on the filter and mono buttons! Super fast and easy
Man like Streaky with the golden tips 😀😀
I love this simple tricks videos. Short and very helpful. Please more of this tricks please👍
This is the type of tips I need, Thanks
Loving this format Streaky!!
Yes, I have a bunch of presets for this in ProQ3 as a reference. Auratones, NS10s, etc, It can be handy. Cheers matey.
@@pullup019 😁👍
@@pullup019 It's pretty easy to do dude. Take any EQ like Fabfilter Pro3. Check online for frequency response on Auratones, NS10s, whatever speaker and then use Hi-pass and low-pass filters. It is not 100% accurate but it gives you an idea. Bandpass referencing is a great way to check how mixes and masters may translate to other sources.
Please share your presets :)
Remember my old fr saffire had that as dsp never used it though as eq presets it’s pretty easy & quick to do
These are the best videos
Straight to point visual and under 1 min!
Excellent Tips, your videos are always very helpful & informative, I’m very grateful for your advice & has helped me with my success in music industry
Yep 👍👍👍 Mids are the key to translatability. My first faders-up mix is always through my cube speaker.
This is absolutely great! Thanks Streaky!
Of course I watched this video when I had spent a large portion of my day looking into buying NS10s 😂😂😂 perfect timing!
Dear Streaky - another phenomenal Video - thank You sooooo much 👌👍🤘
Now why didn’t I think of that, makes perfect sense. I have some great 6 inch Adam Speakers that this method will suit down to the ground. Mask out the highs and lows, mix and balance everything in the mids, then bring back the highs and lows, rebalance and master away! I’ll let you know how I get on. Thanks!
Perfect
Love these quick tips 👍
Love this, gonna try this out later this eves
new world record. straight to the tip. I am glad I subscribed^^
Under 1min, impressive.
Been doing this for years. Thought I was the only one.

I use it intermittedly to check if the instrumentsstill sounds balaced in the mix and to check if there are enough harmonics in the bass tracks to still be able to decipher a bass line.
Interesting method, and I'm searching, so I'll try it! Thanks!
this trick changed everything for me! thanks streaky you're the best.
Streaky Rocks!!! Streaky Rocks!!! Streaky Rocks!!!🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟 thank you so much!!!!
thanks for doing this video streaky. I had seen this mentioned somewhere else but there wasn't many other people commenting on the idea or other producers and mix engineers covering the topic. 👍
I´m most def going to try that trick!! Thanx m8
I got to try this, although I think 400-6k seems for better, but I will try both
I thought i was the only one doing this. Its a good idea to do this with the lows, low mid, hi mid, and hi also.
thanks for this tip, gonna give it try later
Great tips! Thank You!
Hell yeah!
Awesome get to the f##ken point turorials, thank you sir!
Respect!
Thank you, so much!!
Tried it and it works. Thanks, Streaky.
Definitely gonna be trying thiss🤝
He's right. I started doing this a couple of years ago. It works🎉
Love this guy legende fast and to the point
I do this for years, good to see a seasoned pro recommending the same

Wow man this really helped me out thanks
great tip buddy, been doing this for a while now, also gives you a more clean mix

This is amazing man
This was a great tip
Thank you!
Bandpass eq = gamechanger. Streaky really outdid himself .
Amazing tip!
Thank u *Streaky*
It’s fun to use reference tracks from different eras (and remasters) to learn what the emphasis was on during that point in time.
I like this message- Our job is to mix to the device. Telling the listener ‘it’s your shitty headphones’ doesn’t work.
AWESOME. 💯💯💯💥💥💥
Thanks 🙏
Nice one Streaky
Great tip, that's why we have you mastering engineers to do it for us!! 😆🙄🙏
Thank you once again
Thank you
awesome man
Without a lot of talk to the point!
Many thanks!
Finally! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blessed❤
A slight alternative approach to this, you put a dip in the midrange on the final eq stage, then mix your track, then turn off that master eq to export. You will have naturally mixed the mids louder to compensate for the dip you had during the mixing process.
Legend!!
Genius. Subscribed**
Damn, really useful tip
Streaky is the guy
Nice
A cheap option is to buy the Logitech Z120 for £15. these translate really good to phones, ipads and laptops.
It's sad that we have to do things like this.
I studied Audio Engineering in 1987, the same tip was given back then, we even had a car stereo system in the control room. Back then, it wasn't phones and laptops, it was car stereos and radios with little speakers, same idea though.
Sad? It’s amazing.
Nice 👍 by the way I d appreciate a review of the auratone ns10 kind of speaker if you find some arround ?
GOATTT
J .... another one. lol, thanks. :D:D
Wonderful Streaky and thanks but what Q factor?
🔥🔥🔥
Streaky you absolute mad lad
Thanks 🙏
En la madre ufffff
I have some mixcubes for this reason
❤❤❤
What about ufo’s. We don’t know yet 😂
Those cuts represent Auratones more than NS10. The trick doesn't give you 'sealed box' design or 'single speaker with no phase issues' design.
Yeah but NS10 hack sounds catchy 🤦♂️🙏😂
@@Streaky_com You bet!
Those cuts are too drastic in frequency and too steep to even come close to auratones. I have to agree that the frequency response of these speakers is not half the reason they had such a success.
@@user-fr6wc6ew6p doesn’t matter what speakers those cuts are closer too, the point is focus on the mid range. Get that right and the rest will fall into place
watched this on the phone- all sounds the same to me..
Dope. Let’s collab dude 😄🐐
Good day sir.....
When exporting song after mix .....
Should i off the midrange EQ....
Or.....
Allow it at on and export like that.....
this is 500 iq move why am i that dumb haha
😮
When you say "output channel" you mean the master or like a bus where everything is sent?
So if the midrange sounds trash, how should i fix it? In the mix? Or mastering channel? With an eq? Or multiband compressor?
Does this mean my final mix will only have mid rang since O cut the lows and highs??
Was wondering the same, but figured you would remove the eq before final export :))
Does it imply on mastering too? Cause mixing and mastering are 2 different things.
wich recording software you are using in this video ..? thank you!
so i have about 4 mixer tracks that are lyrics and adlibs then 1 mixer track which is the beat then the master track which is all of it together and if im just confused am i putting fab filter on my master track or the beat ?
Or get a set of NS10’s
