Honestly, I've never cared for stories in which humans unjustly take advantage of some kind of supernatural being, emphasis on 'unjustly' due to many variations. It's supposed to make the protagonist come off as clever when really they're just being scumbags. Anyway, love these wonderful videos. Gives me that warm, cozy feeling of sitting near a campfire listening to ghost stories. 😊
To be fair, there's plenty of stories of fae unfairly tricking humans. It's very likely that the Urisk was trying to gain Big Alastair's trust by being cordial, just to bag him along with the fish. We may never know (and neither will Big Alastair), but it's just a lesson in being safe, rather than being sorry.
I'm a fisherman myself and ( I know catching the fish was for food and my fishing is for pleasure ) my attitude would always be "I've had my fun catching, take as many as you want"
@@Para2normal I think, Big Alistair may have been fishing for pleasure aswell (I could be wrong but the sources seem to imply it). I think it was pure greed or possibly misunderstanding the Urisks motives.
I love these so much! I live in Whitetop VA and so much our folklore is carried over from Scotland. We have the Creekfield Woman, which is very similar to the washer woman. Several people I know have seen her multiple times and even taken pictures. She sits by a waterfall washing clothes and combing her hair, but has been seen elsewhere in the community.
Maybe one day soon we can all compare notes and tell a few tales....prior to the pandemic Tom Sleman used to host readings and Q and A,s at Saint George, s Hall in Liverpool....I feel sure you would receive a warm welcome in these parts ,if you decide to do something similar....cheers / slainte....E

Indeed, I believe in fact, these are the same as satyrs from Greek mythology. It’s not at all impossible that if these such creatures did exist or do exist, then they would probably be more widespread than simply Scotland, its possible that they are also the same creatures found in Greece. We do know that Greece actually traded with Cornwall in southern Britain for their tin 1000 BC, so it’s possible, maybe some of the mythology got to the island that way, and somehow made its story known in the north where it stayed, but became forgotten by the rest of Britain?
Great paintings of early Highlanders wearing different diverse kinds of Highland Dress such like as that did not become codified during the Victorian revival including cloaks, different tartan patterns worn together, shoulder sporrans, etc.
Wow, I used to have dreams of Urisk's or them watching over me. One specifically with a biblical name Ezekiel. He was man body, goat legs, and goat head but man torso and arms.

No wonder faeries don't want to interact with humans much anymore. Humans have been so rude and disrespectful to them. Those shepherds gave no thought to just traipsing through his valley home everyday without a pleasant 'good day to you'. That maid, throwing scalding water on someone who is just annoying to her is absolutely cruel. That fisherman, so greedy and selfish. Why does he need that many anyway? Pfft!
I love these storeys i have been studying mythology folklore for 3 0 years but i gave always wonder if the Church based the Devil him self of these guys as the Devil had hoofs and these guys seem to put fear into people as well. The romans use to go to other country’s and integrated other country’s folklore and take over there religious site. 90% people were uneducated back then so easy to put fear into them so they will behave.
I think you're wrong, I think the answer is far simpler than anything anyone has suggested. They simply have minds, and they're all different like humans. You wouldn't look at a white person and think all whites are the same or an Asian and think all Asians think the same

In scotland the fae are known as the sith, sídhe, pronounced shee. there full title in Scotland is the Daoine Sith or people of the fairy mound. hope that helps
