    A slice or two of ripened red delicious tomato is an excellent addition to the sandwich. Some people add diced celery and/or sliced sweet (or dill) pickles. I've even seen black olives served in tuna fish sandwiches, or very thin sliced carrots.

    I love tuna sandwiches and have eaten them all my life. Your recipe sounds delicious. Over the years I've learned from family & friends to add things that make them even healthier and more delicious to me. I especially love adding finely chopped hard boiled eggs, pickle relish ( sweet or dill), crispy chopped bacon, a little lemon juice, chopped tomatoes, cucumber, and even sliced avocado on top of egg mixture. So many things that we love with our eggs. Fun to try different additions.

    Looks good! I always drain and also rinse the tuna while still in the can to get rid of excess saltiness. A dash of celery salt adds critical celery flavor if you don’t have fresh chopped celery at hand.

    • @royjohnson465
      @royjohnson465 2 года назад +2

      Me too, we must think a like, I rinse the tuna in tap water after draining. Celery salt is much better than plain salt.
      ~But I also "NEVER" handle the bread & all the ingredients with my bare hands, I "always" use utensils and paper towels for eating with and preparation. (The reason I do not use so called rubber gloves is because I would also be touching everything around the kitchen with them too.) Because I am "not" going to touch the bread & sandwich ingredients with the "exact same bare hands" that I "also" touched the refrigerator door with, can opener, kitchen water tap, mayonnaise jar, mustard container, utensil drawer handle, kitchen cabinet doors, kitchen chair, etc.. • @mikeh2520
    @mikeh2520 2 года назад +7

    I prefer sweet onions instead of shallots. I like a spoonful of lemon juice and a little balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing each time too. If you need to sweeten it up for kids put carrots into the food processor and add the results to the salad. I've come to prefer chopped green cabbage instead of lettuce and celery. It gives lots of crunch and extends the salad well. Crushed walnuts are excellent too. Avocado on top is great. Try adding rinsed capers if you want to experiment. I add them every time now. Tuna salad is one of those great things that you can keep trying different things in it and tasting it and adjusting it as you go along.

    When it comes to mayonnaise, i use just about the whole bottle, or whatever type of mayonnaise container you buy from your local grocery store, depending on how much cans/tins of tuna you buy!
    Just for your understanding (cultural wise), i live in Scotland, so i don't know if the brands or products i buy to make tuna mayonnaise is the same from where others live in the globe, and it also depends on what brand your region sells, whether if it's good or garbage! Haha.
    By watching this video though, i have learned some new things on how i could make this, so thanks! ;)

A little char on the cheese adds more flavor. Then she would put a dollop of yellow or Dijon mustard on top and serve as a meal for easy weeknight dinners.

    I like to add miracle whip salad dressing and green sweet pickle relish gently whipped together by a fork to make it spreadable. Goes great with soup.
    Even better if bread is toasted first.

    I make mine with mayo, yellow mustard, lemon juice, green onions, romaine lettuce, salt, and pepper. Serve on bread then top of with cheese, put it in the toaster oven to melt the cheese. Then put some sliced tomatoes on top with a little ranch dressing and it's so good.

      I like to use lemon juice too. And the best way to do the mayo is one sandwich at a time that way it'll stay fresh 4 times as long. And an even better way is stirring in shredded cheese and bacon bits on buttered French bread and grilled to a golden perfection

      Melt a half stick of butter with half-and-half (even the fat-free variety or a mixture of other combinations regular milks as well to suit the fat profile you're looking for), and take it off the stove to stir in a hearty handful or more grated pecorino Romano or Parmigiano Reggiano. Drain oneortwo cans of tuna and empty the contents into the sauce, folding it in as you go. Toss that with some pasta of any shape really for a quick pantry meal that you may already even have all the ingredients on hand for. We always throw in a couple of handfuls of peas as well to make it a complete meal.

    One trick l learned years ago from my brother who worked at a restaurant that has amazing tuna sandwiches. Is to add about a tablespoon of any kind of vinegar to a small can. It takes away the strong fishy taste. One of the best tricks for food I have learned. Blessings from California. 🦋 The restaurant is Marie Callender’s. You may have seen their chicken pot pies 🥧 at your local grocery store.

    My favorite tuna sammich is this: 2 cans tuna in water, drained. Put in a bowl and mince with a fork, add good mayo to taste and texture, add pepper, ( no salt, tuna is already salty ) celery seed, 1/3 of a mashed small Avocado, 1/2 can black olives -- drained, rinsed, cut into small pieces, 1/2 of a medium onion, ( white or red, minced in very small pieces) light rye bread -- lightly buttered on on side and toasted in a pan, red leaf lettuce or spinach leaves on one piece of bread, thinly sliced tomato on the other slice with your tuna mixture in the middle............ Now this video has made me hungry...........

    Mayo, dill, chopped celery, shredded carrot, chopped onion, relish or chopped pickles. Dash of mustard, maybe a bit of cayenne pepoer. Then salt and pepper to taste. On toasted white bread, or grilled with Swiss or provolone (tuna melt).
    A slice of tomato and a bit of lettuce on the cold version is good, too.
