On this occassion but I still remember when Rangers played St Petersburg at Old Trafford in Europa cup in 2008. Afte the match they started a riot, attacked police officers and started smashing shop windows. Hampden is class. It's beauty as a home to the national team is genuinely immeasurable. I used to want more capacity. But to change it would risk ruining the immense cauldron of Scottish passion that it is!
It has the European Stadium record when it was 149,000 standing. Ibrox has the club stadium record of 118,000 and Celtic park had 83,000 attendance in the past. The 3 biggest football stadiums in Europe and the world were all in Glasgow at one point in history

Flower of Scotland written by one of Scotlands most famous duo, The Corries . Scottish people have chosen it as thier own , National Anthem or not its oors.
It wasn't the majority at first who chose it though...Highland Cathedral ran it close. I think the lyrics are an anachronism and say nothing about the beauty of the country and I find the tune a bit of dreary waltz. Still I suppose Scotland does have a National Anthem which is more than England does, still relying on the even more dreary UK one...only Home Nation without one. Be good if it did get one and God Save ...saved for UK.
I disagree Highland Cthedral more modern than Flower of Scotland. A beautiful tune written by a German who must have loved Scotland but no proof if he ever visited the country it has so much feeling . Unfortunately it is a tune and no official words. I do agree England should have its own national Anthem . An anthem inspires as it should do, but my only input would be that you choose a tune along the lines of a folk or popular tune. Classical or orchestral works do not for me work. I wish you luck as I am sure many of your fellow countrymen would agree with you. Be proud be safe be yourself all one can ask.

@@nialllee2695 Yes...and a lot of Celtic music as well, jigs, reels polkas etc. One of the (many) reasons I don't get hung up on the concept of nationality (for me nationalism belongs back in the 19thC when it started and in its worst form only leads to xenophobia) is that musically whilst there are undoubtedly regional distinctions within the British Isles (English ballads, Shetland reels, Irish airs etc) I recognise that like the people of the British Isles the music has gone around so much over the centuries that the real origins of much of what gets played is really unknown despite the claims that get made. So by all means lets have national anthems as a way of showing pride and commitment to our own origins but when it has to rely on lyrics referring to a 12thC battle rather than extol the assets of the country (the beauty of the Highlands and Island), the Gaelic language, the arts and culture, inc the musical heritage, the scientific achievements) then , for me, there really has to be a stirring tune to overcome the banality of the lyrics...and in this respect Highland Cathedral wins hand down over Flowers.
