- Bonjour, voici ma première vidéo des vacances avec l'arrivée du Thalys sur la relation entre Marseille et Amsterdam.
Sinon d'autres passages habituel avec Eurostar, OUIGO, TGV etc... à 300 ou 320 km/h.

Hello, this is my first video of the holiday with the arrival of Thalys on the relationship between Marseille and Amsterdam.

Pour en avoir vus plusieurs passer près de moi dans mes quelques voyages en France, c'est à la fois très impressionnant et très agressant. Il y a comme un tourbillon d'air qui te fonce dedans et tu vois ce machin-là foncer vers ta direction à une vitesse folle. Tu as beau ne pas être du tout en danger, ça fait peur quand même.
Quoi qu'il en soit, je suis très admiratif de la SNCF et de tous vos transports en commun en France. À part peut-être à Montréal, vous êtes à des années lumières de ce qu'on a au Québec comme services. Dans ma chère ville de Québec, on vient tous juste d'annoncer notre première ligne de tramway de 23km et un service rapide par bus en site propre de 17km. Ça va faire du bien de remplacer nos bus toujours pris dans le traffic.

I guess that probably comes from the fact that the train cars from the TGV (about 19m) are shorter than the Shinkansen (25m)

hello, but the TGV on traditional lines, when one of the two locomotives has the pantograph lowered, does it have traction? Or is the engine off like on the ETR500?
This is standard, only one pantograph is up to prevent "standing waves", the power is transmitted along the length of the train (in the older single deck trains you can see the high power transmission between each carriage)

The Eurostar goes way faster than it does here in England
because of line restrictions and javelin trains in England go 140mph so eurostar has to go by that speed but in france since tgv is way faster, eurostar can go way faster to 186-208 mph
Not quite true - the line speed between Ebbsfleet and Ashford is 300kph/186mph.
As Channel Alf said the line speed does allow up to the full 186mph and does achieve it, but only when there's not much traffic and you're out of the urban sprawl. Don't forget HS1 isn't exactly the longest stretch of high speed rail
and trains will inevitably have to slow down for the Chunnel anyway! Also (as I'm sure you're aware,) the line speed going in or out of London is much more faster than going in or out of Paris, as the Eurostar has it's own dedicated tunnels, whereas in Paris they use the conventional railway lines to get you in to the center.

Any good videos of the early construction effort of the LGV’s?
Question, of course, is all this high speed profitable or will it ever be so, and most of all what did it mean for the standard speed rail lines?

As far as I can glean from UIC records and SNCF listings, only two lines are profitable, some break even, and some are running on a loss.
Problem is that the corresponding normal lines are now also running at a loss, and many connections are simply broken to force people into the HSL.

TGVs are still the ones to beat. Only the Holman AFB test track handles faster speeds but those are only one shot test payloads.
