Back in the mid 70s my cousin gave me his Captain Action figure. I had never heard of Captain Action and I was kind of in awe of the uniformed figure that was as big as my GI Joe (my megos were obviously much smaller). My cousin told me once or twice that he had a Captain America mask and shield for the figure but he couldn’t find it. So I understood that to mean that the figure was Captain America, which made sense considering he had the letters C/A on his chest. I just figured it was some type of older version of Captain America that didn’t look like the Captain America in the comics. So for years my friends would see this figure in my room and ask me about it (none of us had ever heard of Captain Action). I was adamant that it was Captain America. Bottom line - it was a confusing time in my childhood. Years later as an adult I would discover Captain Action and realize what I had as a kid (it was long gone by then).

As a classic Captain Action fan, this interview AGAIN lacked the information that I've been waiting to hear. This "not ready to reveal/announce" ANYTHING is maddening and infuriating. We've been down this road before and the fact that no licenses are even being mentioned, that tells me that this revival will not interest me or my wallet.

Love the enthusiasm, but rebranding something as niche as Captain Action before you have the story flushed out is not a great way to reintroduce him. It reminds me of KISS when they changed their look and sound dramatically and made the Elder, but called it a soundtrack for a movie that was never made. Everyone (fans and nonfans alike) just scratched their heads and the concept quickly tanked.
If I were in that conference meeting with CAE and LBO, I would ask two questions. Do you want to sell a new property or make toys? Because if you're selling Captain Action toys, he has a nearly 60 year old image (and a fan base) that can not be fuddled with unless you have something to push it, which means you better work on the cartoon or movie FIRST if you want to rebrand him.
Putting out an unrecognizable figure line to promote funding for a cartoon is putting the cart before the horse. If George Lucas had brokered a deal with Kenner to put out Star Wars toys in hopes of funding his first film, the entire line would have tanked and no movie ever would have come out in 1977.
Right now they have this mock up of a new figure line with a brand name that is the only recognizable feature. So yes, the only real reaction is going to be confusion. Sure you'll have a handful of brand loyalists that will check off on anything, but you need the majority vote and the public consumer if you want to sell at mass. "We have great ideas" right now translates into "we have nothing but ideas." Flush this idea all the way out, introduce it with something marketable like a cartoon and see then if it has support to be merchandised.
I noted they referenced GI Joe in the 80's and the transformation he made. Yes he did. But Hasbro had a cartoon and comic line campaign that was the gateway to the toys. CAE and LBO will have to do something similar if they want to rebrand him.

This sound promising, but there have been a few relaunches that failed. And I don''t want a CAPTAIN ACTION without an ACTION BOY (not Kid Action), and maybe later a LADY ACTION. I have a CAPTAIN ACTION, DR. EVIL & A KID ACTION (My ACTION BOY fell apart years ago).
What a waste of time! Show us the action figures! Tell us what the new concept is....
Can’t believe you have these new figures displayed and you never introduce them…just a few quick close-ups. Very disappointing. Missed opportunity.
